First time eating here, and definitely not the last. I live in delaware so I don’t have places like Tom yum district or many thai places to satisfy my cravings. Tom yum district has cheap, but delicious food. If Tom yum branched out to LSD(lower slower delaware) I would be the source of income for them. In all honesty, everything from the customer service to eating the food, this experienced my dc trip a perfect one.

Highly Recommend Tom Yum District! Wonderful value and the food is delicious. Recommend ordering ahead because there is a constant line during the lunch hour. Will definitely go back.

I was just talking to a friend about why I don’t eat more Thai food in the U.S. — it makes me sad that I can buy pad thai in Thailand for $ 1 – 2, while in the U.S., I pay $ 12 – 15 for pad thai because Thai is considered a semi-upscale cuisine(especially compared to Chinese food). Tom Yum District fixes this problem, by making Thai fast, casual, convenient, and relatively cheaper($ 7.50 if you order the bare minimums). True, the taste may not be as delicious as Bangkok 54, but the sauce was delicious enough, and the noodles tasted like they’d been freshly cooked(not sticking together or overcooked). So yes, I expect to be back. Sometimes I don’t want to make the haul down to Columbia Pike for Bangkok 54, and I just want to eat Thai at a metro accessible location. Sometimes I want to eat Thai food in my sweaty gym clothes. And sometimes I don’t want to pay $ 15 for pad thai. I can do all of these things at Tom Yum District.

Cheap for the area and it’s simple. 1– Noddles, rices or vegetables 2-add some beef, chicken or tofu 3– salad 4– sauce Enjoy !!

We always come for a quick dinner and it never disappoints! The set up is like a Thai chipotle. I usually get the pad Thai noodles or the salad with chicken and vegetables and egg. The chicken is never dry and the perfect flavor. I get the cucumber, sprouts, lettuce and onions with cilantro. I usually choose the curry sauce with my noodles but tom yum is good too. Then I add garlic and peanuts on top to complete the bowl! They have big bottles of green sirarcha sauce and chili sauce but the green bottle is def the way to go. I like that they have numerous beverage options besides just fountain sodas and they have good chopsticks! At night, ordering the noodles will take longer because they make it in the back by the order but I always wait. It’s worth it!

I LOVE Tom Yum! I discovered this place awhile back and I am so happy I did. My boyfriend and I go here probably every other week. I usually order the pad thai noodles with steak and add all of the toppings. I’ve tried a few of the sauces and I highly suggest the tom yum sauce, it is definitely the most tasty. They have a good selection of southeast Asian imported beers. The restaurant is always clean and the staff is friendly and helpful. I highly recommend Tom Yum if you are looking for a different place to eat in the Rosslyn area!

I recently started a new job in Rosslyn. I LOVE the job… I do not love Rosslyn. It’s kind of a wasteland for lunch options. But a little bright light for lunch has been Tom Yum. It’s the Thai version of Chipotle. There are a great number of ways to compose your lunch bowl — I find I’m often getting the noodles, egg, veggies, chicken, light Tom Yum sauce, cilantro, garlic and peanuts. It’s not necessarily crave-worthy but it’s cheap and tasty.

I really wanted it to be good. it was really good. The atmosphere walking in screamed contemporary thai cuisine with cute wooden tables with bottles of different sauces. Its basically chipotle style where you choose a base(i got brown jasmine rice) and a protein(chicken) and an assortment of different toppings(sprouts, cucumbers, salad, etc) and then you get to choose a sauce(i got the tum yum sauce). It honestly didnt look like it would taste that great but the sauce is the game changer. wow. it was really good. a perfect pick me up for a certain starving someone(me) who had to trek half way because of the metro shut down. Definitely planning on coming back soon to try all the different varieties

The noodles didn’t have much flavor. Tasted sour overall when it was supposed to be spicy. Meh. I’ve experienced better.

The store operates off of the«Chipotle» concept of making your plate as you order. In terms of flavor and quality, the food was average and the amount of food we got was sub par. The pad Thai noodles were really over cooked and it only came with a few pieces of shrimp. In addition, the employees that were on staff were incredibly rude! They didn’t close for another 55 minutes when our group of four had walked in– yet they treated us like it was a huge inconvenience. As soon as we put our forks down and had finished eating someone rushed over to clean the table(less than a minute) and remove our plates. I understand if you want to go home, but don’t make your customers feel uncomfortable– especially when there was still 20 minutes left in your shift when we finally walked out. If you want to eat in peace, go elsewhere.

In order to get delivery… you have to place order on website. The site had constant issues… It took 19 min to order food… However, food delivery was quick … Food is fantastic

Seems to be something of a trend for businesses to mimic Chipotle in some form or another. I didn’t know what to expect when I walked in but once you figure it out pretty quick. Pick your carbs. Pick your protein. Pick your toppings. Pick your sauce. Get out. Nothing really special about the food other than you get it really quickly. The flavors are nice as well but any establishment that serves noodles and cuts them deserves no more than 3 stars. Cutting the noodles into awkward lengths where you can’t eat them with a fork, spoon, chopstick is godforsaken sin. Don’t cut your noodles dammit!

I wish there were more locations, because I loved Tom Yum District. It’s like a tastier version of ShopHouse. The place isn’t huge, but has lots of seating. Staff was friendly. My bowl consisted of rice and tofu with various toppings and the tom yum sauce(chili paste and lime). It was delicious and completely crave-able. I aim to try some of the sides when I return.

I get it… casual dinning is the new sliced bread. Everyone wants some. But Tom Yum has lost the authenticity of Thai in the process. Not only that but they provide you with toppings that don’t seem to necessarily match with Thai food. While the food was okay, it wasn’t great. The meat didn’t taste fresh and our meal was served to us lukewarm. I wouldn’t come here again… my food came up to $ 8. For $ 4 more I could take my ass to a real Thai restaurant and get better food(in regards to quality and taste). And they are stingy with their meat.

Yumm, what a perfect spot for lunch! If I worked in the area, I would definitely be a regular here. The price, quality, and portion size all receive an A+ from me. I stopped by this place on a Saturday around 11:30AM, so just a little after they opened. I was the only customer there, but wasn’t surprised by that since many people look for brunch items during that time of day. However, I am always craving Thai food. The place itself isn’t very large, but has plenty of seating available. Cute, modern, dark décor. As many other reviewers have mentioned, the food is offered in a «Chipotle» assembly line type of style. Each bowl is priced around $ 7.50, which for the size… I’d say that’s a steal. For my base I chose the pad-thai style noodles, steak for my meat, tom yum sauce, and my toppings consisted of scrambled eggs, sautéed vegetables, fresh lettuce mix, jalapeño peppers, bean sprouts, garlic, and peanuts. The worker definitely didn’t skimp on anything. The tom yum sauce was a mixture of sweet, spicy, acidic flavor and really brought the entire dish together well. I thought the steak could have a bit more flavor — should probably be marinated a bit longer. All of the toppings were fresh, so the raw vegetables added a nice texture. I ate about ¼ of the bowl, which left me quite satisfied and I was able to take the rest home to devour later on. I can’t wait to come back and create different concoctions with their other sauce options!

I stopped through Tom Yum District(which isn’t in the District, btw) for a quick lunch while I was in Rosslyn for a doctor’s appointment. It didn’t disappoint! As soon as you walk in, you immediately think of the Chipotle-style of fast causal restaurant. That’s exactly what Tom Yum is, except with a Thai that surprisingly doesn’t feel forced. Once I figured out how the ordering system worked – choose a ride base, a protein, and then toppings – I ordered the Thai fried rice bowl with chicken and brown jasmine rice and panang curry sauce. They prepare each item for you, of course, and the fried rice was especially pleasing because it was super hot and all thee ingredients were noticeable fresh. The hint of lemongrass on the chicken was pleasant, although they cut the onions really large, so large that they kind of clashed with everything else in the bowl. The seating area is very casual, sort of like a Smashburger seating arrangement, and one cool thing is that the sauces are in a slot right at the table. The service was quite speedy, especially given that I only recall one guy working the food line and one young lady at the cash register. On top of all this, lunch was less than $ 8. When I’m in Rosslyn again, I may just drop through for a second spin. I’m itching to try their house sauce.

Tom Yum is a place I’ve come to have lunch quite a few times over the past 8 months since working in Rosslyn. I’ve had some pretty decent meals there and then I’ve had some that I’d really just like to forget. I usually go with the brown rice and the chicken to start off my bowl. I don’t mind the veggies you can get but I’m not a huge fan. They’ve got sprouts, radish, lettuce, cucumbers, and an assortment of other things to top your base and protein and most are pretty good. It’s relatively cheap too. You can get out of there for under $ 10 if you only get the bowl. I’d recommend going around busy times only — that way you know the food is fresh. I’ve been a couple times around 2pm and the quality isn’t anywhere near what it is during peak lunch hours. I’ve also found that the spring rolls are pretty hit or miss. Service has always been friendly though! Overall I’d say give it a shot if you’re in the area and craving some quick Thai.

Clearly, this is a zeitgeist-y restaurant. Yet another fast casual build your own bowl place. I was pleased to see that someone tried doing it with Thai. The atmosphere is very Shophouse-esque; sharp edges and top hits playing. The menu offerings are pretty basic; rice, noodles, or greens, protein on top, fairly limited selection of toppings(but you can do whatever you want at no extra charge), and a sauce. They at least clearly identify which sauces are seafood-free, of which there were three. I tried noodles/tofu with the titular Tom Yum sauce. The sauce itself was not impressive. Supposedly spicy and sweet, but it was really mostly sweet. The spice came from the peppers I added on. I also ended up with a little egg that I didn’t want from sheer confusion through the topping process. I wish they’d label their toppings better. It was decent, and the price was right, but certainly not special. They did have the option to add a spring roll for $ 1. Even sitting under a heat lamp, this was a good spring roll. I don’t know why fast casual places don’t have more add-ons like this. It irks me that they call themselves Tom Yum«District». They’re not in the District. They are, however, in an area that a lot of people go through, and one with fairly weak food options, so it’s certainly worth a shot to stop by, but not the destination spot I’d hoped for.

This place is convenient close to the hotel that I am staying in, Hyatt Arlington. The price and the food are both great. The service. They are really fast at servicing and preparing all the foods, but at the same time they are nice and make sure that you have all that you need. Although there’s 2 people at the food line counter and 1 person grilling the meats, the line moves very fast. At the same time, they’re able maintain the cleanliness of the restaurant. Well, you have to understand its not table service. You order the food and just bring it to your desired seat/table. Because of that, I’m surprised how the table is still so clean. The food. Its very great for the price, but its a bit too flavorful and saucy for my liking, but that’s just my preference. There was nothing wrong with the flavor, but I’d probably ask for half the amount of sauce for next time. I got the shrimp and pad Thai, which I highly recommend. If I am in town longer, I’d definitely consider coming back here to try out the rest of the menu.
