Lori Dent is the absolute best doula! At first my husband said«you don’t need a Doula». After I gave birth his exact words were“I don’t know if we would have made it without Lori being there. I didn’t have to do anything but hold your hand”. Lori truly does support you in whatever method you decide(regarding birth). I was set on having a natural birth. Lori did house visits, provided education and practice so that I could be prepared for my natural birth. Well, I went way past my due date, had to be induced. My labor was 33 hours. After 18 hours I decided to get the epidural. Lori never once judged me or tried to talk me out of it. She simply supported me. The ENTIRE33 hours she stayed by my side. Massaging, heating pads, calm music, candles, she had it all. The support she provided was priceless. I highly recommend Lori Dent as a doula(she also did my placenta pills).

Lori is an AMAZING doula. She is patient and does not project her own personal beliefs on you. She truly wants your birth experience to be exactly as you hope it will be. Besides being extremely well-priced, she offers above and beyond service and care. Not only did we meet with her three times before Olivia came into this world(most doulas only meet with you once or twice), we also met with her afterwards where she shared the photographs she took. She was always available through email and by phone when I needed her or had any questions. We had Lori do placenta encapsulation for us, which was a god-sent when I was beyond exhausted that first month adjusting to life with a new baby. I still have pills today that I can take when I am feeling low in energy or need a boost in milk production. What stands out the most about Lori is how well she advocates for her clients(especially in the hospital setting) and how flexible she is when things don’t go according to plan. In fact, I ended up having to be induced due to preeclampsia. There is no way I would have been able to go through the severe contractions with restraints without Lori and my husband by my side. Her strength, energy, skills, and improvisations allowed me to last as long as I did medication free. In the end, when I finally needed an epidural, there was no judgment from Lori, only love and acceptance. Words cannot begin to express how important it is to have a doula/midwife by your side when you deliver. You are more than just a patient. Doulas take the time to understand you and your specific needs. My husband and I plan on having another child in the future and without any hesitation, it will be Lori that I want by my side. :-)

My husband and I met Lori at a «Meet the Doulas» night at Harmony in Campbell. She was the only doula available for our date, which was lucky, because my husband and I had already agreed she was the one we wanted to be with us for the birth of our third child. She was very warm and engaging and not too«crunchy» which was good for us because we are pretty middle of the road people. My first two pregnancies ended in c-sections and I was dead set on having a VBAC this time. Luckily, Lori had experience with this! We also took a Hypnobirthing class, and since Lori was experienced with Hypnobabies, she was ready to assist in that and even shared some extra info with us. We had a bunch of false starts and Lori was really good at helping me with my frustrations, giving me suggestions to ease things along and generally not making me feel like an idiot for not knowing when ”real” labor was happening on my third kid. When it really did happen, it was intense and scary and Lori came right away. I can honestly say my husband was NOHELP until she got there :) He was a panicked, scared mess and all of our classes had gone completely out the window. Lori came into our home at about midnight and immediately the atmosphere changed. She gently suggested things for my husband to do and he was once again at ease, helpful, reassuring and calm. She knew exactly what I wanted and got us off to the hospital at exactly the time I wanted to arrive at the hospital(at 8cm). How she could know when that happens based on symptoms alone, I’ll never know… it’s like a superpower. When we arrived, she talked with all of the nurses for me, got them all to read my birth plan and lit electric candles, played music and had the diffuser going with lavender oil. I’m surprised any of this stuff mattered to me while I was in hard labor with no drugs, but it did and it made it all so much more bearable. Plus, my husband got to stay by my side the entire time, supporting me, while she gave tips and dealt with anything that would have made him have to leave the room. When I was screaming for an epidural at the very end, Lori helped me remember my goals and supported me to the very end. I managed to have my natural birth without an epidural and I’m positive I couldn’t have do it without her! I never knew how helpful a doula could be, and now my only regret is that I had to have two kids without her! I’m sure they wouldn’t have been c-sections if I’d had her there! **I will also add that she did placenta encapsulation for us and while I haven’t needed to take the pills, she handled it for us beautifully and it was very easy. She made sure we didn’t have to worry about anything. Just a bottle of placenta pills waiting for us at home with a note on how to use them. Thank you so much, Lori! I NEVER could have done it without you!
