Fabulously charming store and beautiful area. The building itself is worth seeing — built in the late 1800’s. I want to know more about the history. I spent too short a time here. The store is full of interesting and unique things and treasures, beautiful jewelry from the area; all sorts of gifts and household treasures carefully chosen by the owner who has a great eye coupled with respect and knowledge of New Mexican and Southwest culture. I wish I had had more room to carry back because I found just what I was looking for there(and couldn’t in Los Angeles); the perfect front door mat made of rubber and cool recycled materials. There are beautiful gardens alongside. I love the town, too. Friendly people. What a wondrous place it is. Enchanted for sure. Please say hello to the manager and/or owner, who are most kind and helpful in sharing their love of the area and New Mexico. Taos Ice Cream is across the street and has amazingly delicious ice cream and natural foods. I enjoyed eating by the river. I will definitely be going back and highly recommend visiting!

Housed in one of the coolest buildings in ‘Seco(Since I overheard a local’s cell phone conversation, apparently, this is what the locals call this miniscule but really cool-looking town). This store is the anchor of this small town of shops and local businesses located in central NM. I think ‘Seco has one small bar/restaurant — but don’t quote me on this. The Mercantile is an interesting place that carries a moderate amount of antiques, collectibles, a few gifts — most with a New Mexico or ‘ecclectic’ bend to them. All in all, I found it an interesting place to poke around and spend about 15 minutes — but my 11-and 8-year olds were quickly bored much more quickly. So when you are in ‘Seco, be sure to check out the Mercantile, Holmes!
