Blue Moon Construction

Blue Moon completed our basement remodel 7 years ago. We regularly have nails popping back up from our wood floor separators and now have to completely redo our shower. We noticed there were holes/​gaps a few years ago. After several consultations, it turns out the tile was installed improperly and is cracking and coming look. Looks terrible and it’s now going to cost us over $ 1000 to fix a tile shower that started coming apart when it was was less than 5 years old.

Unfortunately, our entire patio project was nothing but problems. It was supposed to take 7 days, and ended up taking over two months, and is still not complete to our satisfaction. We were blamed numerous times for the delay. We did delay work 1 day. We asked them not to pour concrete until they fixed the issues underneath, which included digging out more than 2 inches, and removing grass from under the concrete. so our 1 day delay turned into them delaying it for 6 more weeks. Out of the 28 documents problems, John fixed 14 of them. 3 of them were contract modifications we requested and paid for. The bricks are still the wrong size and the stairs are the total wrong color. John completely ignored numerous emails and requests. The patio was also over 8 square feet to short. He blamed us for not measuring the patio forms beforehand. Its not our job to double check your work. He also was very threatening to my husband and called him «Little Guy» while trying to intimidate him.
We have a witness. His lead guy Jose barely speaks English and was terrible to try to explain things to. They each blamed the other person for the terrible job. The entire process was incredibly unprofessional and it now looks terrible. He has lost our future business to finish the patio, and we have told numerous friends looking to do outdoor spaces to stay away from him. He refuses to apologize and fix the work and instead continues to blame everyone else, including us. At this point, Id rather pay a different company to fix the problems and finish the deck than to deal with John again.

We hired Blue Moon to construct an outdoor grill island and pergola. The design portion of the experience was good. It was an interesting design that captured our desires. Our initial meeting with John was good and we felt like we had made a good choice of contractors. We met at his design center, made our material choices, looked at the schedule (laid out by Blue Moon) on project completion and left feeling happy. Within a couple days they showed up at our house and ripped up the patio pavers in the back of our house, dug 4 very large holes for the pergola posts, left a disorganized and dangerous disaster of a work site right outside my back door and failed to show up to do any more work for about 2 weeks. That set the tone for the rest of our project. The work was hit or miss from that point forward. I had some other projects being completed that were time sensitive and would be impacted by the work being done by Blue Moon. This was all agreed to upfront, but Blue Moon failed to live up to the schedule they laid out. On the occasions when the crews would show up, they were messy, failed to clean up after themselves and were extremely slow. They would fail to show up for a week or more at a time and after one particularly long absence, come to my house only to pick up all their equipment and abandon my project for another week. I would call John to ask what was going on and would get nothing but empty words and hollow promises and him explaining to me that he had no control over his crews and that they probably left to do another job that he didn’t know about. I came home unannounced one day to find the work crew sitting accomplishing no work (they did not know I was there) — this was not a break because it lasted for 2 hours and was not at lunch time. Needless to say — the project took well over twice (almost 3 times) as long as originally scheduled and was more that frustrating from start to finish. While that may be annoying, it’s not the reason for my one star rating. The quality of the work is amateur at best. The pergola finish work is sloppy with nails sticking out of the wood, they sprayed concrete stain all over the back of my house, and they even smashed a large section of my gutters while installing the pergola posts. It was very obvious this company has no expertise in pouring concrete counter tops. A section of the concrete failed immediately and John’s idea of a fix was to epoxy the parts that broke off back on. Needless to say, it looks horrible. The stain and sealer were put on before the concrete cured and in below freezing temps resulting in both immediately peeling off. The LED lights that were installed never worked and when John came over to get his last payment he told me he would get it fixed, taking the remote and promising he would bring me a new one. Another empty promise from Blue Moon. Yes, I should not have given him the final payment until everything was perfect, but John is a likable guy and talks a good game. Within a month of «completion», the concrete counter top started developing very large cracks across the width of the counter and a 4 foot section of the edge broke off. I contacted Blue Moon for warranty work on my 4 month old grill island and after much assurance that Blue Moon stands 100% behind their products they sent someone out to fix it. The fix was to cut a 4 foot pie shaped piece out of the counter and pour new concrete there and then to never show up again and fail to respond to any of my e-​mails. I now have a mismatched counter, my grill has been pulled out of place and not reset, and the forms for the concrete section they poured are still in place — it looks great! I’ll get some pictures posted to show the quality of Blue Moon’s work. I truly wish things had not gone like this. I’m very disappointed in the entire experience with this company and the final product is a disaster. I caution anyone dealing with this company to research their work. My project might be the anomaly, but I believe the approach to customer service, communication during the project and warranty work after the project displayed by Blue Moon should give any potential customers pause.
I need to follow up with my review. Blue Moon came out to do some more repair work and I have posted another picture.
Update. Blue Moon came back and redid the top of the bar cutting over half of it out and repouring and restaining the concrete. The seam between the two is not great, but it’s way better than it was and the edges aren’t crumbling this time. They also made sure I got a replacement remote for the lights. I’m happier than I was, still disappointed how it all went down.

Recently purchased a home that had a fence, deck, and paver patio installed by blue moon construction. All three were constructed poorly. The deck was installed to the side of the house with no flashing where the ledger was attached and siding removed. The paver patios form was to thin and bulged out pushing the fence out of alignment. The fence was wedged around the neighbors post instead of being built off of it. Tried calling blue moon to have some one give me an estimate to get theses items fixed. Each time I was told someone would call before coming out. Called three times with no response, each time the receptionist stated they were busy and would get back to me. Would not recommend this company at all.

Blue Moon Construction was fantastic! I got an in-​home estimate quickly, the sales rep arrived on time for the appointment and my patio was completed very quickly! They even squeezed me in on their schedule! I am very happy with their customer service! Great local company and I recommend them to everyone!

Jk and the team at Blue Moon are great. The team is very creative and offers ideas to make every project better. They built my bar and worked within my budget/​Vision to create exactly what I wanted. Additionally, they saved me when I was out of town and needed an urgent repair.

Blue Moon Construction finished our basement. They do amazing work and the final product is gorgeous. The employees are very professional and polite. 4 star quality.
However, they are not very quick to respond to emails and the lines of communication sometimes have a delay, mainly on their end. 3 star quality
Based on that last fact, I don’t know that I would recommend them if you need constant status reports from them.
