On the road north through AR we came across Ashdown at lunch time. We didn’t feel like fast food, so we were glad to find Big Jake’s. Diverse BBQ menu. 4 tasty sauces. Free pinto beans. Pretty good BBQ. It’s in a relatively new building and they have big screens on the walls. I got the pulled pork and smoked sausage. I also tasted their brisket. Definitely better than fast food. I liked their sauces, especially the sweet mustard sauce. Their other sweet and their original sauces were great. I did not try their hot bbq sauce. Sides were good, especially their baked beans. Fries are fresh cut and the baked potatoes are huge. 4 stars b/c it’s not great, sauces were above avg and it’s a great alternative to fast food in a small town.

I couldn’t find a lot online telling me what Ashdown had to offer. I left my hotel(Economy Inn) and just walked around, looking for something to eat. Most of downtown was closed around 6pm, so it took a bit! I came upon Big Jakes BBQ and was intrigued! You stand in line to order kind of like a fast food joint, but you sit down and they bring your order to you when it’s finished. I selected a brisket meal. It was all delicious, but the brisket was the least delicious part of it. It was a little dry. The fries and macaroni were divine! The service was good and the environment was neat. If you find yourself in this odd town, I recommended it! The parking was a little odd… a creepy dirt parking lot that was dark, and had a train track running through it.
