This place seams to be unable to make up it’s mind what it wants to be. Its a mishmash of nice and cheap. Nice dinner plates vs salad dressing in a to go packet like you get at Wendy’s. The entire experience felt like that. Food was okay, but come on get it together already. Service was good if not great. Not worth the price IMO.

Went to the zoo and we were hungry after. Found this restaurant on Unilocal and we were not disappointed! Ordered: Spinach artichoke dip Full rack of ribs Chicken fettuccine alfredo Shrimp scampi NY cheesecake Everything was so good. The sauce on the shrimp scampi dish was delicious. The ribs literally fell off the bone, sauce was good… It was a 10! Needless to say, we ate everything. Even dessert. The atmosphere was really nice and the servers and service was excellent! Next time we go to the zoo we will definitely come back again.

Decent food at a decent price with friendly staff. We have visited Something Different Restaurant on two occasions. Our first stop was after a lovely visit to the Asheboro Zoo(which is basically around the corner) and recently we stopped in while traveling on 64. It’s great to have a good option to fast food so convienently located. They seem to be known best for their kabobs and chocolate volcano dessert. During our recent visit the waitstaff shared tables and tips. I have never been a fan of pulled tips because it always seems like some staff slacks off while others run around trying to handle too many tables at once. The owners of Something Different must be doing something right because the staff seemed happy and to work so well together. Great service!

A real surprise in a strip shopping center. The food is outstanding and reasonably priced. Had the 12 oz. ribeye steak special. At $ 17.00 with a salad and a side it is a bargain. The steak was closely trimmed with almost no waste and cooked perfectly. The place is clean and neat. The wait staff very friendly and efficient. Plus the owner personally asked me if my meal was good. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

My favorite! Never had a bad meal here. My husband’s favorite is the lamb chops. Mine the portobello! Desserts are awesome. The service is great and we had steaks at steak street and they are better here.

Very quaint spot. Stopped in on the way home to Raleigh. We both got Greek salads, at first I thought it looked kinda measly but it it was great and had a good amount of feta which is important to me. I got the Portobello, it was really good too! I was pleased and would retune again if in the area. Also, they were really fast and owner very nice and hospitable.

Always excellent food and service. They want to make you feel welcome. One of my favorite places in Asheboro. I always get the chicken kabob.

A great hidden gem! The food at this place is great for this area and the eggplant appetizer is worth every penny. The décor isn’t too fancy and a bit dimly lit but this place is definitely underrated! Super great prices too!

Delicious! Lots of food for not too hefty a price! Went here with my brother Saturday night and started with the shrimp and crab dip. It was SO good! I would be back just for that! Most entrees come with a salad option and I opted for the Greek salad. For my entrée I had the lamb chops with asparagus which were cooked perfectly. A little thin, but for the price $ 16.99 it was worth it. My brother had a bacon crusted sirloin that was beyond delicious and cooked to a perfect medium rare. For dessert we had tiramisu that was covered in a caramel sauce and while I’ve never had caramel on tiramisu I don’t want it without it ever again! It was great and also the house Cabernet wasn’t so bad! Seriously, if you’re in asheboro stop in and check it out!

We enjoyed wonderful meals this evening. Service was outstanding and my halibut was perfection. Ricks«Charleston» was seriously good, don’t miss this gem.

They should change the name from something different to nothing special. Canned green beans. Gyro was dry. The shrimp kabobs were actually pretty good.

A nice place to eat at if you’re visiting the zoo, and leaps and bounds better than the food available at the zoo. Efficient and courteous service, interesting entrees and sensible portion sizes.

Come on now I read over some of the other reviews and they were a little unfair, people who had expectations, keep it simple and they do here. Lots of food choices, but you are in the middle of no where and the fish was awesome, my Alfredo was good, the dessert(Volcano Cake and Apple Crisp) shared by 3 of us was very tastey. I have had to tell co-workers and friends keep your expectations where ever you go, LOW, nothing should be above average, and let the restaurant win you over or lose you. They won me over and I will be back for a resaonable expectation meal. One thing I do not agree with this place is ZONESERVICE… If you take my order and another waitress brings me the wrong order(Did not happen here bue, what if?) or it is cold or it is terrible, because I am leaving the tip I have no reason to leave you a decent tip only because you started a Job that you could not finish. They are worth being checked out.

One of the worst experience had last night. Our server had a very bad attitude. She took my order wrong and when I told her it was wrong she said no and she took it right. The owner had a bad attitude too. The place they gave us to sit was not enough for 7 people it was very small table. NOTRECOMMENDED … DON’T WASTEYOURMONEY

Something Different should actually probably be Something a Little Odd. This restaurant was strange. It felt like a Denny’s with high-end food. Ultimately I think the name says a lot in that it is also a catering service. I think catering is where the food comes from(one of the bulk service food providers that services the catering industry), but the food service and the presentation of the restaurant is downscale. Nothing wrong with the food, but it just feels a little weird. In fact it seemed like we were actually being pushed to turn over the tables but there was no crowd. Bottom line, this was not a dining experience this was just eating. If you’re looking for something more, you need to look someplace else.

The service was hands down awful. The waitresses were extremely lazy and paid no attention to my order. I ordered the French chicken sandwich and asked that the caramelized onions were put on the side and that in substitution ranch was added rather than honey mustard. However when my order arrived it was drowning in honey mustard. When I asked for it to be remade I was greeted by unfriendly service from the owner. He acted as if I was wrong in the situation. Also I did not receive a discounted meal either for the unfriendly and inconsiderate service. Also my boyfriend and I received salads as sides and they were less than appetizing. The lettuce was dry and overall unappealing to eat.

Food was decent but the staff went above and beyond to make our experience a good one. An over-tired 2– and 4-year-old can be a challenge but we were given a small plate of sides to fill them up before their meals came and each kid got a free handful of m&m’s. Would def come back on our next trip to the zoo.

Fine dining in a strip mall… who knew? Unilocal! Fast friendly service. Great seafood dip and parmigiana. Try the flaming volcano it’s fun. Not so different but very likable little spot. Check it out.

**2.5 stars** Forgive me for not taking off my «I live in a real city» hat; I am judging this by how good it actually is instead of how good it is for Asheboro. This is a 2.5 star place, but I’m rounding up for two reasons: the iced peach green tea was bangin and the staff was really nice about the mess the child with us made. In an effort to pick a mid-way point between Jake and I during my latest trip to Greensboro, we ended up here. He picked Asheboro and I sought out a place with good reviews. Something Different sounded like the best bet in the city and there were multiple reviews saying«good for kids» which I figured was key, given I had convinced Jake to bring his three year old along. Rather than Something Different, this place should be called A Little Bit of Everything, as that’s what the menu consists of. But, «jack of all trades, master of none» rings true as none of the food was above average. We were in the South, so maybe it was fitting that they brought us Texas toast with our meals, but two halved-slices of white toast with a negligible amount of butter is hardly the Texas toast I got used to eating in Georgia. The pasta dish I ordered had a rich sauce that was successful in its attempt to suffocate the chicken and vegetables that accompanied it. It was quite disappointing but I was hungry so I ate most of it anyway. Jake wasn’t even happy with the quality of the grilled cheese sandwich Hunter got. Sure, he’s three so he enjoyed the crackers the waitress gave him when he first woke up from his nap more than his actual sandwich, but he is a foodie in the making and Jake expected more than a slice of American cheese inside the same lame pieces of white toast they gave us in a basket as a starter. Hunter’s pay back for a lackluster sandwich was ripping open sugar packets and spilling salt all over the table, but luckily the girls who worked there thought he was adorable(truth) and didn’t mind cleaning up after him. Aside from the company, the best part was the iced peach green tea. I’m very sensitive to caffeine and drinking this iced tea at 7pm was worth the risk of a night of no sleep. It wasn’t too sweet and green tea has more antioxidants than black, so not only did it taste great, but it was healthy too! If I’d had it with lunch I would have consumed several glasses, but knowing I had a 5+ hour long drive home after work the next day meant I was good and limited myself to one. Something Different offers Americanized food of many genres and is a great way for folks in a smaller Southern city to experience«something different» for them. But if you’re looking for quality eats within any of those regional cuisines, I’d recommend driving a little further to Greensboro or a lot further to Raleigh like Jake and I decided we’ll do next time I’m in North Carolina.

Had Easter lunch here with my folks. We all got«something different.» I had the Stuffed Chicken entrée. It was a lightly fried chicken breast, albeit a little on the small side, stuffed with mozzarella and broccoli, served on a bed of fettuccine alfredo, garnished with a piece of asparagus. ¡Delicioso! My dad enjoyed his crab cakes, my mom liked her grilled chicken, and my aunt demolished her veggie pita. The side salads worked out well with the house made Greek vinegarette. We topped off our meal with a couple of desserts. The special of the day, chocolate cake, was dry and easily dismissed. But the real treat was the volcano — a crusted outside, gooey inside brownie type treat topped with vanilla ice cream drizzled with fudge and caramel. It comes out on fire as it is served to you. Absolutely awesome, and absolutely recommend. The service was prompt and friendly. Really nothing to complain about here whatsoever. If you live in town or just passing through, right off of US64, this spot is definitely worth checking out.
