Tonight was my first time dining here and all I can say is that my only regret is not finding this place sooner. I went in not expecting much and was wowed by the authenticity of the food, it absolutely exceeded my expectations and this is coming from someone of Salvadorean descent who has actually eaten in El Salvador. I had pupusas, chicken tamales, an order of plantains, and although it wasn’t on the menu, the waitress did offer me «agua de melon» which was amazing! Aesthetically, it is in what used to be an old Subway so isn’t by any means anything fancy and they do serve off paper plates, but for a delicious, authentic meal it is worth it! I will definitely be a regular there.

I guess my husband and I are on a Spanish speaking country cuisine kick this week because we decided to head over to El Salvador after checking out some Mexican for some more amazing food. The waitress spoke a bit of English so we did a combo of English & Spanish ordering. As a result, we accidentally ordered way tooooo much food, but it totally worked out in our favor because we had left overs! We ordered Pupusas, Corn Tamales, & Pasatelitos(?) for starters and the Parrillada Guanaca & Asado Salvadorean for entrees. Everything was amazing and I mean everything. It took awhile to come out, but to me that just means it’s super fresh. I highly recommend trying out A Taste of El Salvador, you will not regret a Subway being replaced by this excellent restaurant! I hear they do take out as well.

Friends at work told me about this place. My husband took me there last night. The pupusas were so good I wanted to go into the kitchen and thank the sweet lady who made them but thought that might be weird.

While I was visiting family in the area, my sister mentioned having noticed this new place had opened, so we stopped by for a snack, and it was delicious! We had the platanos con crema, and one of each type of pupusa. The food arrived quickly and was hot and tasty. The cheese and bean pupusas were great, but the chicharron one was the best: perfectly seasoned, and so good that we got another one. The staff were very friendly, the food was reasonably priced, and the facility was sparkling clean(although we were the only diners around: it was mid-afternoon). Great experience: I’d go back!(Except that I live 800 miles away.) Notes for parents: I had my toddler with me, and they were quick to bring her a high chair(although the buckle was broken). No changing table in the bathroom: would be easy for them to add, though: maybe they will later.

I am use to good pupusas being from DC. The pupusas here are awesome we had revueltas(pork and cheese) and cheese. The yucca with chitcharron was platanos maduros were all spot on. The curtido(slaw that came with the pupusas and yucca) was particularly good. This place is a rare gem for Asheville. Finally a legit place for Salvadorian food.

I live across the street and decided to order take out when I finally had time. Food was ready when they said it would be, and I didn’t wait at all as soon as I showed up. The pappossa was amazing, not sure how traditional but amazing. And the fermented cabbage slaw that came with it was also perfect. The salsa was thin and and delicious. Once again I’m not sure how traditional it was but soooo delicious. So I also ordered the Asada Salvadorian. But when I got home and opened the box I actually had like 5 more pappossas. So I was to hungry to care and didn’t say anything about it. But 20 minutes later I got a call and an apology, also they told me my Asada was waiting for me. After picking it up I was blown away. The steak was amazing. I will for sure be going back here, don’t let the presentation sway you, the food is with a try with out a doubt.

This is a new El Salvadorian diner is a hidden gem. We love central American food to begin with and when Tomatoes closed it was sad. But here we go, just a few weeks into it and this little place is hopping. I’ll give my downers first: 1.When searching for this place do not expect anything fancy. They are new and very small, in the old subway shop on Patton ave. 2. They were out of the first 3 things we tried to order. Ok, that being said let me tell you the good stuff and why I gave it 4 stars. 1. Everything is made fresh daily and once it’s gone, it’s gone. 2. We ordered the pork and bean and cheese papusas and they wet perfection! Seriously perfect. Came with their homemade chili sauce on the side that has quite a kick to it, and cabbage. Then we ordered a pork tamale they were out of those so we went with the chicken, again, perfection. The flavors were well blended and tamale was super moist and served in the green corn husk. Next up was and order of plantains cooked to perfect sweetness and served with what they called Salvadoran cream cheese, not the sweet cream we are all used to. And finally we ordered the fried yuca and pork and cabbage. When I tell you this was perfectly cooked and flavored all the way around I kid you not! The yuca was not stringy or hard, it was percale crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The pork had such an amazing flavor going on and the cabbage with this combo was right on spot. 3. The waitress speaks English and is very knowledgeable and accommodating since it’s her families restaurant so that was nice. She told us that they usually sell out of almost everything by the end of each day and a lot of people call in for carry out. She also mentioned that they are keeping the menu small for now and as the business grows they will add in more options. I really hope this little place stays around because they have something very good happening here. I highly suggest you come give them a try. Do not be upset if they are out of what you want to order, that just means you have to go back another day and try something new. She also mentioned they have new daily specials, and as a side note, they do except credit cards and cash.
