Probably the best antiquarian bookstore in Ashville with a very knowledgable owner. Lots of modern stuff and a nice bookcase of rarities. I’ve bought great titles from them at the store and on the Internet. Polite and professional.

A very cool bookstore. Lots of used books and lots of books with signatures of authors or other famous people. A big price range in what you can get, some books a couple bucks some a few thousand. Sometimes you’ll find something you didn’t know you were looking for.

Quality antiquarian bookseller with a deep selection and relatively reasonable prices. I pulled out three lovely books and had a nice conversation with one of the owners.
Going to an antiquarian bookseller and expressing disappointment at not finding discounted paperbacks is like going to an antique dealer and wondering why they don’t carry the crap you normally buy at Ikea. Two different experiences and an unfair basis for a two-star review.

I recently had the good fortune to visit The Captain’s Bookshelf in Asheville, NC! The staff were extremely helpful and I must say, I regularly frequent rare book stores that are much larger and cannot find a single book that I would like to add to my collection. At The Captains Bookshelf the selection was excellent and I purchased 3 books at a very reasonable price! I am looking forward to my next visit to their store and will make plans to do so even though it is a 3 hour trip from my home! Highly Recommended!

Very proud of their books. So if you’re looking to drop $ 500 on a rare copy, this is your place. I just love used bookstores for the love of books. In their non– cased sections of used books (your average used books– nothing all that special), the books were at least half of their original prices, if not closer to the original price and in some cases, more than. Huh? Have they ever been to another used bookstore?
I also found the books hard to reach, or even see, so high up. For someone who can normally get lost all day in a bookstore, I was out of there in 10 minutes. The atmosphere was even a bit snobby. I was incredibly disappointed, but glad I had found Malaprops Bookstore!
