My favorite place anytime. Breakfast lunch or dinner it’s a winner! Bbq sandwich is awesome and always crave the ginger salad. Breakfast rocks w yummy biscuits and jam! I want to go there now

The offerings appear to be chic. I know it’s hard to be creative if you are working with just veggies. Prices a bit much for the quality and selection.

My family really enjoyed breakfast. Three of us had the porky and one the vegan tofu scramble. Great service and great coffee too.

My 5-Star rating is based two-fold on the food & the staff. First up, if you’re looking for that perfect ambience, this is not it. You enter along the food prep area and although poorly ventilated, it does smell amazing! The wait, especially on weekends, is long. That ought to tell you something about the place. It really is worth the wait. Because we were in a hurry, I asked if they entertain orders to-go, and voila, they do. We took menus, placed our order, and in less than 20 minutes, were walking away with incredibly large, hot, aromatic to-go boxes(biodegradable ones at that). We dined in the car on the roof of the parking garage; now on to the food. The local sausage & sweet potato scramble rates in the top-5 breakfast meals I have ever eaten. It was hot, perfectly prepared and nothing short of delicious. The portion size was huge and made for a great leftover breakfast the next morning. Their homefries are to die for and the pancakes were some of the best we have ever had. Flat out, Early Girl is a «must eat» at least once before you die.

The hubs and I ended a last minute trip to Asheville with a late breakfast at Early Girl Eatery. The wait to get a table was about 35 minutes at 10:45.not too bad considering those coming in later were told about an hour and a half. We started with a homemade biscuit and herb cream gravy. I could have eaten two of those and been happy and full but instead we plunged ahead and ordered the Early Girl Benny and… I can’t remember what my husband got because I didn’t look up from my plate until it was all gone. The service was friendly and really great. Ended the meal with a slice of lemon cake(keep judging, it’s fine) that was, dare I say, divine?

Sadly, I was not blown away by the sweet potato scramble. More importantly, even though I completely understand that there is a wait time for any weekend brunch, I cannot believe how poorly ventilated the waiting area is, and how likely everyone waiting there, including the wait staff, the chef, the entire kitchen staff has to suffer from the complete absence of a kitchen exhaust fan! What a total public health hazard! On the plus side, their pan-fried chicken was delicious, as was their broccoli salad with bacon. I just seriously cannot imagine coming here again until they do something about the ridiculously poor air quality.

Yum. Recommended for brunch by a local I had met the day before. Great menu options, nice staff. Funky relaxed atmosphere. I will be back when I go to Asheville again.

I went inside this place kicking and screaming like a little kid in tow behind my fiancé. Visually not something I would ever even consider walking into. You walk into the place through what appears to be the kitchen. The hostess was very polite, oh and side note TOTAL hipster location. We waited for about 10min for a seat. The décor is quirky but all blends together. Food presentation was on point. They do a very home grown menu and try to keep everything fresh. I had the catfish which was delicious and the Mrs had a pimento grilled cheese. Food alone these choices were really good. One big thing for me is smell. There was an employee who walked around sitting people that appeared to forget his deodorant that morning. All in all 3 stars.

Well, not much to look at from them outside. The curtains at our table were splattered red with soup/ketchup(?), and the tables had a strip of brown paper covering them. Not the most attractive place, but not the worst. The manager(?) promptly answered my food questions via Unilocal messaging(awesome). However, when I got to the restaurant, they didn’t have the vegan chili like the manager said. It took way too long to be waited on, but when we asked if someone could assist us, they got it all figured out and they promptly took our order. Despite the above, the food was KILLER awesome!!! Everyone at my table(vegan, vegetarians, carnivores) thought the food was outstanding. So I’d give the food 6 stars but everything else 3. (I think in the future I would get take-out and give it 5 stars.)

We didn’t spend much time downtown on our last Asheville visit, but made a special exception to dine at the much-loved Early Girl Eatery in the heart of it all. We’d previously opted for less crowded options in town, but after looking over that mouthwatering menu(hellooooo, Benny!), we decided it was worth the wait. As expected, there was a good list going when we arrived on Saturday for a late lunch, and were quoted about 30 minutes for a table. I found it a little odd that they didn’t have any system other than a good ol’ name yell out to notify you that your table is ready. There’s little to no sitting room near the hostess stand off Hall St., and the shaded street gets awful chilly in the winter months when waiting outside. It seems like they’d greatly benefit from a call back or buzzer, but maybe that just taints the southern style hospitality of it all. If you do get daring enough to leave your post of salivating at the screen door entrance, might I recommend walking across the street to Appalachian Natural Soap. Hands down, best homemade soap bars I’ve found. You can easily spend 20 minutes to satisfy some of your other senses in this smell good emporium. Fortunately, we didn’t get lost too long in the sudsy world of soaps and made it back before they called our name for a table. When it was our time, we were escorted back by a friendly(and very cutely dressed, I might add) hostess past the kitchen to the back. The dining area is at the opposite end of the building from the entrance, with a wall of windows overlooking Pritchard Park. Our waitress cheerily greeted us within seconds of sitting and continued the amazing service for our entire visit. Based on the numerous recommendations, we went with the staple Early Girl Benny and Sausage & Sweet Potato Scramble. Both so different, but equally amazing. I see why they’re so popular! Both were cooked to perfection and packing a feast of flavor. The biscuit paired along side was fluffy and great with their homemade jam. I’d say the Benny is a must for any new-comer, but I’d love to venture out to see what else they have to offer on future visits. Overall, we had a pretty pleasant dining experience and would come back, perhaps during an off hour or week day to skip the crowds and wait time. I look forward to trying more of the classic southern comfort that Early Girl’s so famous for!

Had a «Southern Breakfast» and it was very good, although maybe the bacon could have been a little crispier. The biscuit was literally to die for, especially with the local honey or jam. I would go five stars but I really wanted a Bloody Mary and I can only guess they’d like to get their liquor license as much as I wish they has a liquor license. In any case, I really wanted a Bloody Mary, so I was bummed. They did offer a mimosa or Bellini instead… but that’s just not the same. Service was friendly and timely, and for that I will be back!

Bacon and sausage lovers UNITE! When you order the sweet potato and sausage scramble it comes with generous portion of bacon mixed in. It traditionally includes mushrooms and green onions as well but I opted to go without those. As a substitute the offer tomatoes, spinach or cheese. So I added the cheddar cheese… Delish! It comes with a biscuit which was more to the dry home style as opposed to big flaky and fluffy but what sent it over the top was the tasty raspberry jam. Yummo! My waitress was super friendly even though the place was hopping. Best breakfast place I’ve tried in Asheville and will definitely return on future visits.

This place came highly recommended. I had a mediocre experience. I have to give the service a 2 and the food/environment a 4… so the overall rating will be a 3. I would not tell people not to come here and think that it may be a good place based on all the high reviews… It may have been an off day when I went. My experience may have been tarnished by my server and did not seem representative of the reputation this place has. I tried the black bean hummus, and thought it was pretty good. unfortunately my server failed to tell me that there were no pita chips and assumed I wanted brown toast. The salad was nice and fresh and my friends seemed to enjoy their meals. The overall consensus of the group was a 3.5.

Expect at least a half hour wait on the weekends, this is a deservedly popular restaurant. There are a couple of benches out front but you’ll likely be milling around for a bit. Feel free to wander into the leather shop while you’re chilling. Once we were seated, everything moved at a good pace. Menus included breakfast and lunch items, though lunch doesn’t start being served until 11. My eye was drawn directly to the Early Girl Benedict so that’s what I had. One of my friends went with a breakfast bowl, which he said was great. Another just had the biscuits and gravy. Bacon gravy? Oh, my. My «bene» was a good solid meal. Two poached eggs served on top of «grit cakes»(I asked for the slice of country ham(I’d recommend skipping it as it was very salty), stewed tomatoes and a few slices of avocado. Very pretty to look at but it turned into a delicious mess as soon as I cut into it. Lots of flavor and texture, the grit cakes were really good. Despite being very busy with every table filled and refilling quickly after folks left, the service was good. Our food arrived promptly and accurately, the water cups and coffee mugs were refilled promptly. Seats were the standard 30 minutes and they start to get uncomfortable. This restaurant is a victim of its own success. It’s really good and therefore, there’s a serious wait. Be prepared.

Does this place really need another great review? Maybe not but what the hell. Like many others, I too had the Local Sausage and Sweet Potato Scramble. And just like everyone else, I also loved it. The thing I would recommend– or advise– is that I normally order what I’m comfortable with and though I like sweet potatoes, they’re not something I would normally go out of my way for. But since I was on vacation I was being more ambitious with my food selections and decided to order outside of my usual, safe, go-to. I’m glad I did(here and everywhere else as well). It was divine. The portion was also a decent size so it may look a tad smaller– it was exactly what I needed. The staff were great as well and so was the coffee. It’s well worth the wait(if you end up in one). I only wish I lived in Asheville to go here and order something new every time. Their selection was unique and everything sounds great.

I’ll admit that it’s not a usual five star dig. Then come to think of it, it’s not your usual tourist trap either. One trap is Tupelo Honey, which is right around the corner from this gem. Do yourself a favor and pass up TH and head to Early Girl. We were walking in the area and wanted something other than Tupelo and as we passed a hotel concierge and asked what he recommended and he pointed us to Early Girl. My first impression of this place was Betty Boop meets Paula Deen. This was for dinner, so don’t let the«early» part of the name fool you too much. I noticed on the menu that they serve their breakfast options all day and the other options start at 11am. The menu consists of many southern staples and farm-to-table options. Before I ordered I spotted someone’s huge slice of red velvet cake, so I decided I would order my meal conservatively. I decided on the Cobb salad and I must say that it’s the best Cobb salad I’ve had in a long time. It was so filling and delicious that I wasn’t able to order dessert… maybe next time. The bathroom situation… Yes, I always check out the bathroom situation, doesn’t everyone wash their hands before they eat too? The restaurant shares bathrooms with several other restaurants within the same building complex. You have to grab a key because of the city’s mass amount of transients, they have to keep it locked. Maybe I shouldn’t have mentioned that because I’ll admit that it is a bit odd.

Finally! A restaurant that knows how to make a good tofu scramble! Great texture, not too salty, spiced correctly to imitate eggs, and perfect proportion to yummy fresh veggies. Amazing with their house habanero hot sauce! The rye bread on the side was delicious as well. You can tell they use high quality bread. My husband ordered biscuits and veggie gravy with two scrambled eggs on the side. The gravy was creamy and savory and the proportion size was a good deal for $ 3.50. Not the best biscuit I have ever had but still pretty damn good. We were very happy with our breakfast.

After hiking I just wanted a fresh hearty salad… And I got it! Got the toasted almond and ginger salad with chicken. The sunflower seeds and almonds added a nice crunch and filled me up! Friend loved loved loved his chicken sandwich with herbed goat cheese and cabbage with walnuts as his side. He devoured it in two seconds no joke. Overall a super cute and laid back restaurant to grab a casual meal!

You might as well go see what it’s all about. I give three and a half stars for the food and maybe a little extra star-worthy kudos for the ambiance. Very shabby chic. Very college-town bohemian. First of all. be prepared for a wait. The tables are close together so you’ll be cozy with your neighbor. If you like the hustle and bustle of a weekend brunch then this is your scene. The soup of the day was good. And the uncommon caraway added an unexpected zip. We liked the quiche of the day… and the side salad was simple. The stone ground grits certainly taste that way. Although, I wish my cheesy grits had more umph to taste. The avocado and sprout sandwich was a little dry and I didn’t love the soggy fries. Overall…It was cute and fun. Food was hunger-worthy. Not five stars in my book but just go check it out and see for yourself.
