this is the real deal, the Ashtanga place that Asheville waited so long for. this is where you learn Ashtanga Yoga the way it is taught in India. It took so long to build up a place like this in Asheville where yoga is on every corner but a few people wanted the original and made the effort to set up a studio that teaches pure Ashtanga, one of the oldest Yoga forms, the one all the Vinyasa Yogas, Bikram and Jivamukti Yoga comes from. The Mysore Room has found a space in a Meditation Center in Asheville and is open Monday to Friday from 6 to 8.30 am. 3 Times a week there are teachers that help you with your asana practice or generally teach you how to practice Ashtanga Yoga. every person does the practice on their own in their own speed and their own abilities(there are 6 series of poses all together) and the teachers help where you need it or give you general advice what to do next. for most people the practice takes about 1hour 30 minutes, you can arrive in the time between 6am and 8.30 am and either use the whole time to work on your asanas, or you just do 1 hour, its your decision. right now the Mysore room has three permanent teachers, they teach Monday, Wednesday and Friday, if you are an absolute beginner i would recommend coming on one of these days. soon you can start your self practice on one of the other days. even if you have a room at home it is much different to be surrounded by the breathing and bending of others, the atmosphere is just amazing. sometimes there are workshops on weekends or during the week, they are getting well known teachers from other areas in to share their knowledge, so make sure you go on their website before you show up, so that you know whats up! so happy this finally happened here!
