Not only was The Soda Fountain accommodating to those of us that cannot eat gluten but so are many of the restaurants in Asheville, NC. The Soda Fountain offered gluten free bread, so I was able to get a club sandwich with turkey, ham and bacon. A REAL club sandwich from a restaurant! It was great. The bread they used was Udi’s which is a good brand. The meat used is Boar’s Head, which is always good. The sandwich was great and I would definitely recommend!

OK consider this is in Woolworth’s. Diner comparison. I’ve eaten here a couple of times and am always amazed at how good the food is. Perfect hotdogs, great shakes and malts. Fresh salads, etc. Crazy. Cheap. Neat environment. No table service. I’ll continue dropping in here for a quick bite.

Really good sandwiches. I had the«fried» bologna, and it was very tasty. I would definitely go back. Loved the retro lunch counter.

This is a decent place to grab a quick bite. They have counter service and some 4 top tables. Typical sandwich shop fare, but no hamburgers or fries. Every thing is grilled. The service is good and the atmosphere is unique as the rest of the building is an art gallery. Overall a good place to stop for food and some rest while walking around downtown.

Lame! Stood in line for 10 minutes while employees talked and ignored customers. So many other places to go and get much better or any type of service at all. There was at least six employees that couldn’t handle the small line that was waiting. Takes forever. Finally lost my patience and left with still the same number of people being ignored in line. Three other customers left also.

Had a great chili cheese dog here while waiting for the Girly to finish at the art supply place. Nice ambiance and the girl working the counter was a sweetheart.

Quick, friendly, and delicious. There is little else to say. My reuben was executed perfectly, and I assume the milkshakes are equally impressive, although I haven’t had one yet. This will certainly be on my short list of places to get a sandwich around here. The fact that I can get an equally amazing sandwich nearby for slightly less money keeps this from earning my coveted 5 star review, though.

Ordered a malted milk shake, it was delicious. Nostalgic soda fountain. Definitely a fun stop while touring downtown Asheville.

This is a nostalgic lunch counter at the Woolworth Walk, an omnibus style art gallery in what was once the Woolworth store in Asheville. Art for all budgets, downtown. The Soda Fountain serves sandwiches, salads, veggie entrees, kid’s entrees, and of course ice cream treats, including egg creams and phosphates, and even espresso, cappuccino, and locally roasted organic coffee. If you’re on a budget, or if you just love nostalgia, this is a fine place for the whole family or you and a date. My wife and I dropped in last Friday evening before going to Montford Park Players outdoor Shakespeare production, and picked up a to-go dinner which was just charmingly packed in a cute carry away recycle type cardboard box, and was very tasty while we watched the show. Highly recommended for picnic food, too! I had chicken salad and my wife had roast beef, and the slaw was excellent.
