It’s the largest free hut-to-hut cross country skiing system in North America. 50 miles of trails. 20 groomed. You can stay in a yurt in the backcountry. When it pours rain(it did) and the snow is crappy(it was) and your little cross-country excursion winds up in a complete head-to-toe soaking to the bone(it had) you can dry off next to a propane woodstove and cook a fine meal. It’s a quintessential northwest mountain experience that everyone should aim to try once in their life.

I used to be an active member of this association and did a lot of volunteer work as well clearing trails and building a hut to hut ski in ski out trail system that circumnavigates Mt. Rainier National Park. They are great people with a handful of huts now open and hundreds of miles of ski trails to cross country ski on in the winter. Contact them regarding membership or if you want to help them build their system even more.
