I cannot believe this place is still in business. These people sell nothing but puppy mill dogs. Before I knew any better I purchased a SharPei from them, who died at age 4 from kidney failure which my vet attributed to poor breeding. A friend purchased a Chihuahua who had to be put down at a year old because of joint problems, also poor breeding. When you buy these dogs you help support puppy mills, a horrible business, plus you pay inflated prices for a dog you think is a pure breed. GOOD LUCK.

The puppies were adorable, no complaints there. The employees and «manager» were extremely rude. I went in looking for a new puppy, and I guess they assumed that I had no money because I look young. That is no reason to assume my financial status. They wouldn’t let us play with/​pet the dogs or even take pictures. How does a business owner expect to make sales if the potential customers can’t take pictures to send to family or even see if the dog is friendly? Then the manager proceeded to ask if there was a problem when we were testing out the toys. It’s absolutely ridiculous to me that that is how they run their business. I do not support Pauley’s Pups and I will not be returning because of the horrible customer service.

I just bought an adorable teddy bear pup today. These dogs may or may not come from a puppy mill, but someone has to adopt/​purchase them and I was willing to.
The 3 ladies here were super nice. My dog smelled clean like a baby so I didn’t have to bathe her when I came home and I am anal about my dogs literally. I have always washed my previous dogs feet and rear ends after walking them.
I was not about to search all over the state of VA for a reputable dealer of teddy bear dogs when I could conveniently come here from Northern VA. The dog was $ 700 and I purchased the cage and supplies for $ 120, so this was a good deal. I remember buying my lhapsa apso 20 years ago and it was $ 350 back then, so with inflation, this is a good price.
Again, the ladies answered our questions, no eye rolling, and were very sweet and accommodating. I would shop here again in the future. Again my puppy is so sweet.

I liked the place. If you are looking for a specific breed this is your spot. Sure they use puppy mills, but that’s how it works. If you like sausage don’t look into how it is made, just enjoy. But seriously got a shitzu a month ago and he has been great. The staff was more than helpful, even gave me some dog food to help him switch brands gradually.

I bought a puppy from here about a month ago and she is the most sweetest little puppy ever. When I purchased her from here the workers were extremely rude to me and also another lady who walked in with me. We both were in there spending at least 1000 dollars on our pups and they treated us horribly. When I brought my puppy home she smelt awful. It took three baths to get the stench out. Also. When I fed her, she acted as though she hadn’t ate in 3 weeks. You could tell they don’t feed or bathe their pups regularly. This was my first puppy. I had a lot of questions. The lady who checked me out was rolling her eyes at every question I had and making smart remarks to her other coworkers about the lady next to me as well. I have never in my life been in such a disgusting place. Service wise and cleanliness wise.

For heavens sake adopt from a shelter or rescue. You can get a purebred whatever. There are several Chihuahua Rescues for example. Pauleys get their dogs from backyard breeders and puppy mills. Places like this are the reason millions of dogs are put to death in over-​crowded shelters.

Pauley’s specializes in small breeds — Maltese, Pug, mini Pinscher, teddy bear, Shih Tzu, etc. All of their dogs are $ 700, and they occasionally have one dog «on sale» for $ 600.
They have the puppies cordoned off so you can only look from about three feet away even though they’re in cages. Then when you are sure which one you want to buy, you can handle it wearing a paper apron and gloves.
A friend who purchased several dogs here told me about the place. She said the puppies tend to get larger than the owners say they will. For example, a Shih Tzu she bought got up to 20 pounds (average weight is 9 – 16) and a Pomeranian is currently 35 pounds (average weight 15 – 20) when she was told they’d be smaller as adults — something to keep in mind if you’re after a teacup or toy breed.
I didn’t purchase a puppy… $ 700, though not a bad price in some markets, is a more than I want to spend.

If you don’t believe that this store gets its dogs from puppy mills, just do a Google search for Junior Horton. He was running a mill right here in VA and it was one of the largest puppy mill busts in history. He admitted to authorities that most of his dogs were sold directly to Pauley’s Pups in Ashland.
My friend bought a dog here (a yorkie/​poodle mix) for way too much money. It had horrible allergies, luxating patellas, and a liver problem. These are horribly bred dogs and their poor parents are tortured and forced to live in horrible conditions.
There are shelters and rescue groups for ANY breed or mix you want, so check
or your local shelters. Or contact me directly and I’ll be glad to help you look. Just please stay away from pet stores like this one.
