I have been seeing Dr. Dukes for several years now. This review is the result of a visit with another optometrist in town that made me realize what a good optometrist Dr. Dukes is. I had something in my eye from riding my bike. It had been irritating me for at least a week and I called to make an appointment. Dr. Dukes was booked up and I decided it couldn’t wait so I made an appointment with another optometrist in town for that morning. This guy spent 20 minutes with me, found nothing, gave me an RX for some drops and charged me $ 240. I’ve never paid anywhere near that at Dr. Dukes’ but I was now obliged to fork over the money. Two weeks later my eye was still irritated. I called Dr. Dukes and explained what was going on and they got me in right away. I sat in the chair and Dr. Dukes did a complete exam and found all sorts of things in the eye. It was then that I realized that the other optometrist never once touched me. Dukes was flipping my eyelids back, and flushing my eyes repeatedly, and gently digging(as gently as one can stick something in your eyeball) all sorts of stuff out of my eye. After about 30 minutes of working on me, he charged me $ 40. And the best part is — he found what the other guy couldn’t and removed it. So, bottom line: Dr. Dukes is not the flashy sort of optometrist who wears the Prada white lab coat. He is a genuine person, down-to-earth sort, comfortable with himself. But who cares if the guy wears plaid shirts? The bottom line is he is a fully involved optometrist, with every patient, who spends the time to listen to you and deal with the problems. No contest. Dukes has earned my business!

I had called as a new patient and made an appt 2 weeks out. I gave them my insurance information and phone number and they said they would verify that I was covered. I was unaware that my vision insurance was under a different company than my medical. So when I arrived for my appt(rushing to get there 10min early with my crazy schedule) the receptionist told me that I was not covered. I asked her to check again because I know that I have vision coverage. After filling out all of my paperwork she told me I was covered under vsp and that they are out of network for them. They should have called me when they first found out so that I could make other arrangements. Thanks for being a giant waste of my time!

I have been to many, many optometrists over the years. but wow, Dr. Duke and his staff are amazing!!! Hands down the best!!! They fixed my horrendous Wal-Mart prescription and have been giving me the best care ever since. It’s obvious that Dr. Duke is knowledgeable as well as thorough. His staff are the sweetest and go out of their way to be helpful. For example, I had a pair of plastic framed glasses from elsewhere, and his wife took the time to melt and fix them/reshape them so they fit comfortably. No more headaches! They even let me know that my favourite Focus Softcolors lenses were no longer being made and to stock up while I could. I’m so grateful for the great affordable care I receive from Progressive Optometry.

Had a great experience at this office. I’d been going to the guy at Costco, but never felt like I was getting a complete exam(that, and I didn’t feel my prescription was right afterward). For only a few dollars more, Eric Duke did a very thorough job, was super friendly, and took time to explain things. I highly recommend him to anyone needing an eye exam. «I can see clearly now…»

Original review: Eric Duke and his staff turned an eye exam and lens fitting into an enjoyable experience. Everyone is upbeat, knowledgeable and helpful. There was no sales pressure or upsell, I got exactly what I needed and learned some things in the process. I felt like I had a family of care instead of a visit to a practitioner. If you need glasses or contacts, they do a great job at a reasonable price. I actually look forward to my next visit. Updated review(Nov 2012) This morning, I had the exact opposite experience.(rant of a frustrated customer deleted) Updated review(Mar 2014) Today, I discovered I had left a Unilocal rant about Eric and I immediately took it down. I wish I had realized sooner. In retrospect, Eric Duke did a great job for me when I was seeing him, sadly a misunderstanding with staff and poor communication, on their part and on mine, ruined my next visit dealing with staff, I wound up finding a different eye doc. I had several previous visits that were terrific. I am knocking off one star on the rating because of that bad experience, but really, I think it was an aberration and not what you should expect.
