Looking forward to sushi. It was ok. had eel and yellow tanning. Yes I wanted something different and this is definatly Virginia sushi. Wierd. This was to have asparagus inside and did not! I questioned him and sushi chef apologized. Put cucumber I side instead. Prob thought I wouldn’t notice. I did! It had some cheese on top and was cooked in a tinfoil. Was Wierd but ok. I wanted different‼Would not order that again. My eel was good. Hubby had Teri chicken dinner– good and a scallop sushi was good. Buh bye…

Best sushi in Richmond hands down. Nothing I have had across the country can compare. It is about 18 minutes from work but we usually make the trek once or twice a month. Absolutely outstanding product. I ate in once before I moved here and the service was excellent as well. All around great joint – enjoy!!! Dan C.

Definitely one of my top sushi restaurants. For being in a not so great shopping center this is definitely a highlight of ashland. The sushi is always delicious and the chef is always willing to make up something new and creative that’s not on the menu. A must here is the baked orange roll, droooool. My favorite! Who would have thought of eating baked sushi? It’s so good! Small atmosphere, always plays John mayer, and is never too terribly busy, but I highly recommend giving it a try!

Well… when you walk in to a sushi restaurant and they tell you that they ran out of rice… well…it’s like walking into a KFC and they tell you they ran out of chicken. On the plus side, they were very nice and the Sake was good.

Came to Kings Dominion on vacation, and stopped here for dinner with some friends. All I can say is wow! The fire dragon roll is easily the best roll I’ve ever had. Fantastic sushi in an unlikely place.

Currently our favorite restaurant in Ashland. Impressed by the quality of the ginger salad, the salmon skin roll, the fancy asparagus roll, everything really. They have some strange sounding melted cheese topped sushi rolls that may be for those afraid of raw fish. Try one. Really surprising and decadent. Sit at the bar and let the owner send some surprises your way.

I tried here once before about 6 months ago. At that time I thought it would be best to try again before writing a review. As with my first visit this was for lunch. Yet again I was the second party there for lunch, obviously not a bustling hot spot. Not a good indicator for a business who’s main objective is sell expensive fresh raw fish QUICKLY. Dining alone for this visit I sat at the bar. A typical Sushi bar with refrigerated display cases full of fresh & exotic fish. That’s what most Sushi bars are like, not this one. There were(2) cases only(1) was running and it was only ½ full. Made me think of what the cases look like at my favorite Sushi place on a busy Saturday night when it’s time to close! Tempting fate I ordered a deluxe roll, the Kamikaze Roll. The Chef(host, waiter, busboy) quickly made my roll, though with his back to me, and presented a very good looking roll! Pleasant surprise! A nice bug roll, well presented! Considering the location, it was surprisingly GOOD. Not fantastic but pretty good for a out of the way, hole in the wall, located in a «C» class strip center. Mind you it doesn’t crack my top 5 for Sushi, but better than many others. Feel for the owner trying to maintain freshness without having the volume. I suggest you stick to cooked or fried roll, skip the sashimi.

I’m shocked. Who knew Ashland would have such an awesome sushi place? I got the sushi deluxe and the pieces of sushi were HUGE! Totally worth the price and we will be back!

This is one of my favorite sushi places. The food is always fresh and delicious. Definitely a hidden gem. Service can sometimes be slow, but it’s worth the wait.

PLEASEDONOTEATHERE. This place is horrible, both for service and food quality. First off it is located right next to a liquor store. Secondly the Sushi Chef/Owner was a jerk. My wife almost got sick biting into her Mexican roll and I had the Philly Crispy Roll and it was deep fried to almost black. When we went to say something to the Chef/Owner he got so defensive and started yelling, saying he wouldn’t cook for us. He said we must not know what sushi is supposed to be like. Which my wife and I have had sushi all over this country. Didn’t get to finish our food and when we went to walk out, the owner started yellying, I call the cops. Did I tell you we were the only customers there. My goal is for this place to be closed down so a respectful sushi restaurant can be opened in Ashland. I will never eat here again and I ask you don’t either. Thanks.

I was pleasantly surprised and excited to learn that there’s a sushi place in Ashland! I was even more excited when I tasted the food! The sushi was fresh and delicious, and prices were par with what you’d expect. All of the rolls I tried were very tasty, and the fried cheesecake for desert was delicious! Our waitress was very friendly, but service was a little on the slow side. I’m giving her a pass though, because she was new. I’m definitely returning to Yokozuna, and hopefully will be just as pleased with them next time!

Wow, how is this a legit sushi joint and did the sushi chef/owner forget everything he learned in «10 years of training» in Japan? I ordered the sushi regular, a philly roll, a salmon skin roll, a spicy tuna roll, a chirashi, and a beef teriyaki. The sashimi looked like the chef hacked it off the fish with a cleaver. There was little taste in the fish and my chirashi bowl was ½ full of rice and ½ full of salad. The nigiri came out in huge filets. The rolls looked like they were put together by an amateur sushi apprentice. The price was high and not all entrees came with soup… nevermind salad. Most of the signature rolls on the menu are cooked… or, shall I say, deep fried. Trust me, my pics make the entrees look better than they are. The rice in the rolls reminded me of Safeway sushi. No vinegar taste and lumpy. Service was sweet and attentive though, although there was a delay in the kitchen in getting the beef teriyaki cooked b/c the chef’s wife who moonlights as a cook was busy in the dining area flapping her gums with the customers. This sushi joint is located in a dumpy part of town(e.g. truck rest stops, motels, fast food, etc.) and the ½ deserted strip mall had drug dealers hanging out and selling drugs when I left.

Definitely a legit sushi bar and my new favorite in the RVA area. The salmon sushi pieces were big, fresh and tasty. The Alaskan roll was a double treat of salmon(smoked and raw). They don’t have kani salad on the menu but the chef graciously whipped it up for us and it was excellent. The service is top notch.

It is outstanding food!!! I am continually amazed at the quality of the ingredients, the freshness of the ingredients. The Maine Yokozuna is incredible. I usually order the AsparaGus roll, but the Yokozuna is now the favorite. Or at least until the next visit. Each and every dish is delicious to the eye and the palate. Make this place a must try!

The food here is pretty good. Not even close to the best place in the Richmond area though. Most of there rolls are baked which is a big down side to me. It’s not worth the price at all. There are better place with better pricing around. Better than what I expected for Ashland but probably won’t be going out of my way to go back any time soon.

We thoroughly enjoyed dining in this quaint establishment. The sushi was fresh and prepared with the artistic flair one would expect at a much pricier restaurant. We were very happy with the quality and the portion sizes.
