Astoria Auto gets my thumbs up! Started using Frank & his shop a yr. ago when my 97 Odyssey’s engine light came on and was running rough. I did not like current shop I was using so after online searching and the positive reviews for this shop I decided to give it a try. When Frank called me to say car was ready and then the charge for the fix, I was more than happy! He could have told me anything and charged me $ 300 or more easily, but he told me it was a minor issue with a spark plug and my van has been running GREAT since. Recently he even asked me about the engine light and smiled when I said there was no problem. Frank and his wife are a solid neighborhood business and they work hard and honestly and always busy, which is a great sign for an auto shop. Kudos!!!

This is why I love about Astoria. Old fashioned honest business delivers top quality work with affordable reasonable charges. I am always afraid of going to auto shops because dealerships break my bank and small shops can rip me off. The owner has been very helpful fixing my career and giving me a fast turnaround and affordable price. Will visit again!

Frank and his team are professional and genuinely nice. I’ve been there twice for an oil change and for inspection. During the oil change, he noticed a couple things that needed to be fixed (which I knew about) and not once did I feel like I was being taken advantage of. The inspection happened without anything other issues surfacing. From the start, I had trust in them (and I’m usually wary when it comes to receiving services for things I don’t have a lot of knowledge about –doctors, auto repair, etc…) but there was never a reason to doubt. I’m happy to have a place in the neighborhood I can head to if there’s ever a need.

Have had my car here 3 times (a 2007 Corolla) and have been very happy with the service. First was the inspection when I bought the car. Frank told me I should get tires soon but did not pressure me. (And he was correct — they were the original tires with 50k miles on them.) Second time was after getting rear-​ended, no visible damage. I stopped by the next morning to ask if they could check for any structural damage. Frank crawled under the car while it was parked in the driveway, gave it a look, and told me I was good to go. I offered to pay for an hour of his time but he would not charge me! And then I was just back for a standard oil change. Very happy with the price and turnaround time and particularly that Frank took the time to explain what fluids he topped off and what they had looked over. No pressure to perform any work. I do believe this place is the real deal and the reviews here are accurate. I am happy to have found a mechanic I trust.

Found Astoria Auto Repair as I needed an NYS Inspection and my NY Volvo dealer had gone out of business. I called the day before and the man said sure come in tomorrow. I show up the next day and they are obviously busy but true to their word got my inspection done before the end of the day. They even called to say my car was ready. This is a rarity these days — an honest mechanic — no «extra» work on my 95,000 mile car. I felt bad that all I paid was the $ 36 inspection fee, but I’ll definitely be back for an oil change and some new tires and in a few more miles a service.

I needed a last minute inspection on my car and these guys were willing to squeeze me in at the very end of the day. This was the only «work» I had done by them but from my initial impression, they are very personable and seem to work honestly — as the other Unilocalers have attested to. I would feel comfortable going back to them for future services.

I didn’t take my car here because I was given a ridiculous quote for a simple brake job. I needed the shoes (rear brakes) done on my Mazda. I had called another place that quoted me 125 $ for the job parts and labor. They also told me 35 $ for an oil change. I called this place and they told me just the shoes (he made it clear that this was just for the shoes if the drums were ok and didn’t need to be done) would be 280 $ for parts and labor. I was like wow that’s a big difference. They also told me 45 $ for an oil change. I called one last place which is where I ended up going which did both the shoes and the drums for 200 $. I don’t even want to know what it would have cost me at this place but I’m guessing close to 500 $ maybe more since drums cost more than shoes, and that’s just crazy for a simple brake job! Thanks but I’ll take my business elsewhere.

These guys did a wonderful job repairing my Jeep. Avoided unnecessary work. Come in much less than other repair shops had quoted. Clearly knew their stuff.

I drive an old Honda that I have grown very fond of. I had an issue with a check engine light that came on intermittently. I brought it to several mechanics in Queens to troubleshoot, Astoria Auto was the only one knowledgeable and patient enough with older vehicles to figure out the issue and explain clearly to me how they would repair it. They did an excellent job. As a result, I have had them do a half dozen or so other repairs on my car, including an overhaul of the air conditioning, replacing the axle assembly, replacing a door handle after a break-​in (and saving the cylinder), and tracking down the source of an oil leak. All the repairs have been performed solidly and at a fair price. The owner, Frank, is clearly very knowledgeable and also understands the importance of good communication with his customers. I feel like my car is in trustworthy hands whenever I leave him the key, and that he understands how much the car means to me. I would recommend Astoria Auto to anyone who asks me if I know of a good mechanic in NYC.

Support your local businesses! After a terrible experience at a VW Dealership that quoted a repair and labor at $ 1,600, I brought my car to Frank. He answered my call on Labor Day and was able to see me the next morning. He was able to find the issue and repair what was needed and it was SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper AND he only repaired what was necessary.
Frank has been in business for 30+ years and his whole team is honest and hard working. An absolutely amazing experience.

I really could have sworn that my car inspection was not due until the end of July. Luckily the kind police officer who left me a ticket reminded me that in fact it was due in June and not July. After swearing a bit I researched where I could get my car inspected first thing the following morning to avoid any more reminders. Astoria Auto repair opened at 7:00 am and was just a couple of block from my apartment.
I arrived shortly after 7:00 and saw Frank. I asked him if he could do an inspection for me this morning. He said he was pretty full, but I could leave the car and he’d give me a call when it was done. He allowed me to park it in his lot next to the shop to avoid further tickets. I told him I could be back around 5:00 after I finished work. No problem.
He called me that afternoon and told me it was ready. He alerted me to a potential brake issue, but never pressured me to get it fixed.
Great service. I’ll be back if I need some work.

I’ll try my best to be fair without appearing to be some spiteful customer hell bent on sabotaging someone’s business, I will try my best. I was searching Unilocal for a good place to bring my vehicle when I saw all the good reviews for Astoria Auto and Frank. Considering my horrible experience, I’m convinced that many of these reviews are fraudulent, and here’s why. I bring my car in, for a pretty minor repair dealing with how my vehicle was idling while in neutral. I drop the car off and I’m told by Frank that he will give me a call once they find the problem, so out of courtesy for his professionalism, I didn’t call until the next 6 hours when I was told that they hadn’t found anything yet and that he’d call soon. Well soon ran over until closing, I was never called. I called back at 9am next day when I was told by Frank that they’re still looking at the problem and they’ll call me back. So I’m thinking fine, I’ll let him take his time as long as he finds the problem. Another day passes without a call, he calls me next day to tell me the car was ready, I ask what the problem was, he gives me a laundry list of unrelated problems and a $ 500 bill which he never called for my authorization to do all the work he did, but here’s the kicker, the initial problem was never fixed and has since gotten worse… Never again, stay away.

Frank does it right every time, with great prices and a fast turnaround! I’ve had my brakes fixed there, and they work like a charm. I also recently needed my entire windshield replaces quickly, and it was finished right at a day from when I brought it in.

Stumbled upon this place randomly after getting a ticket for my car inspection being expired. They took me on the spot, and were super friendly. As a woman, it’s not always a comfortable or friendly environment in an auto repair shop, but the people working here treated me with respect. Price was fair and I would definitely take my car here in the future.

This is the only place I’ve brought my car after moving to the neighborhood a year ago, and I’ve been happy every time. Frank, the owner, is friendly, helpful, and good at explaining things to the non-​mechanically-​inclined like me without talking down or condescending. When I needed some body work done, Frank referred me to a body shop that got it done quickly, cleanly and reasonably-​priced. If you read no further, know this: Friendly, great work, good prices, recommend to a friend.
This is the kind of mom-​and-​pop shop that belongs in Astoria – hell, in every neighborhood. My beat-​up ’99 Corolla gets treated just as well as the shiny new thangs I see people bring in. The service is great – never had to come back for anything – and the prices are fair.
Also, my heart melts when Frank and the guys fawn over my wife’s Tacoma pickup («Man, it’s too bad it’s not the 4×4!»). They don’t just show up to work, they all seem to genuinely love what they do. I’ll be back many times, and so will the wife.

This place is the ONLY place to take your car in Astoria. Frank is a total straight shooter. He also goes above and beyond. He’s there after closing time every day, and sometimes even on weekends. I called late one night after having some alternator work and my car wouldn’t start… Frank came and jumped my car and checked it out on the spot to make sure that everything was okay (the work they did was solid… my wife had just left the hazard lights on!). Love this place and won’t go anywhere else.

These reviews aren’t kidding. So glad I found Astoria auto repair. The owner, Frank, is a hero among men! It’s so hard to find an honest mechanic, especially when you’re a chick who has zero knowledge about cars. This guy did a complicated/​intricate repair on a broken door lock along with brake work, inspection and the price was VERY reasonable. He also let me pick up my car after hours. You can trust this place. I’ll continue to go here for all time.

Car repair is confusing. And expensive. And Frank makes it okay!
He’s personable, frank (…yes, Frank is frank), knowledgeable, quick, comprehensive, he ACTUALLY CARES, and he offers fairly reasonable prices. My recent repair was expensive, but that wasn’t his fault — it would’ve been more elsewhere. He really did a fantastic– my car works again — and as long as I’m in the neighborhood, I’ll keep on coming back.
I called around to other shops in the area, and they were rude and disinterested off the bat. Frank was not! Go Astoria Auto Repair!
((PS — They could use a bit more transparency throughout the process — «we’re going to do this», «we expect it to cost somewhere in this range», «this is the problem, it might cost this much, would you like us to proceed?», etc. — but that aside, they did a great job for a reasonable price, so no complaints!))

Even though I no longer live in Astoria, I had to review this place because of the service I’ve received here. First, I should say that I know next to nothing about cars. I get terrified when my car has an issue because i know that it could cost me anywhere between $ 10 and $ 1000…or more *tremble.* It’s nice to have a place that you can trust and a place where you don’t feel overcharged.
I’ve taken my car here on two separate occasions and have had great results both times. The first time I was driving, and suddenly, my driver-​side window fell down into the door! I came by the shop immediately on a Friday afternoon and Frank found time to fix the car on the spot. I was so relieved because it was supposed to rain later that weekend!
The other time, I called because my car had to be jumped at work. I don’t have AAA, but I assumed that I just needed a new battery. I called the shop ahead of time to insure that they had batteries and could find the time to do it, but when I took the car in, the Frank ran diagnostics and found that the alternator was shot! Frank stayed an extra hour after closing so that he could fix my car before the weekend. I couldn’t believe how friendly and welcoming all of the guys in the shop were.
Each of my repairs cost quite a bit of money, but I think that they would have cost that amount regardless of where I took the car. I was happy with the service I was offered at Astoria Auto Repair, and if anything happens to my car again, I’ll always know where to call… aside from the Ghostbusters.
