Athena Car Service

A few years ago, this would have been a 5 star review, but my last two tries with this company have confirmed that I will never use this car service again.
Once, a driver admitted to us that he couldn’t read signs, and took a wrong exit for a gate at JFK. Then, instead of proceeding forward through a parking lot and looping around, he insisted on trying to back up the exit ramp into oncoming traffic. We consistently kept telling him to please proceed forward and we’ll figure it out or else we are getting out of the car, and he stubbornly wouldn’t listen.
That was an awful experience, but I decided that there is no way it could happen again (and I needed a car service), so I called for another trip to the airport. I let them know what time to pick me up, and realized the price is cheaper online, so they told me to go online to book. They then called again to confirm my time of pick up. Well, Apparently they wrote down the incorrect time on paper (how could this happen after I tell someone the time twice AND entered it online), or the driver lied to me, but no one showed up to pick me up! When I called to check, they said they were coming for a time that was 30 min after I requested, which wouldn’t cut it to get me to the airport in time for my flight.
Long story short, use UBER!

Just started using them a month ago. Always dependable and on time. Drivers are very friendly and professional and always help with our luggage. Very fair prices. Highly recommend. Drivers are all English speaking as well.

The car smelled like an ashtray and the driver didn’t know how to get from Ditmars and 82 street to the train station

I chose this car service to drive me to JFK and they not only were courteous, but, we’re reasonably priced! The office staff were polite and very helpful!
I would definitely use this car service again! In fact, I just booked my return trip with them! Thank You!!!

I have used them for a ride to jfk. The driver came early and was waiting patiently for me and my family. He was very friendly and helped us with our luggage. He only charged me $ 35 so I gave him a $ 5 tip. All around experience was excellent.

Everything is alright with this company, except for the woman who answer the phone: very RUDE !!!

Absolute ripoff. They wanted to charge me 24 dollars for literally a two minute drive.

To come from Astoria to woodside I usually pay around $ 13 but the guy charged me $ 18. I think it’s a bit over price!!!

I’m actually in the car right now and I’m furious. Their website says that it will cost $ 35 to JFK… WRONG. It costs $ 40. I feel scammed. Also my driver had to nerve to go to Burger King to order food while he was taking me to the airport. And ate his lunch in the car which made me really nervous. So unprofessional! Never will I use this car service again!

When I lived in Astoria, this was the only car service I used to get from my apartment to LGA. The drivers were always friendly, cars were clean, and the price was fairly inexpensive (around $ 15 – 18). Generally, the cars arrived 5 – 10 minutes earlier than scheduled, which was actually nice for someone like me who likes punctuality. Keep in mind it is cash only if you reserve over the phone.

Will not use Athena Car Service and will not recommend them to friends or family.
There was a discrepancy on the phone. Imagine a larger discrepancy once you get into the car!
This evening, I called for a quote from Astoria to LGA ($ 18) and was quoted a different rate than shown online. The operator said that because I already called that, she can’t match the price they advertise on their own website ($ 15).
They can’t even match what they print. I imagine they probably won’t match what they quote over the phone either.
I’d rather not be taken for THIS ride. I found a different company within the area to take me to LGA for $ 14 and they were nice on the phone.

Terrible Service. Called for a quote three times. They do not call back and when I call them they tell me my car is outside, and when I explain that I needed the car later and was asking for a quote I was hung up on.

Terrible. What would normally be maybe a $ 15 cab ride turned out to be $ 35 which was only stated after we arrived. Dispatcher repeatedly lied and told me that I had been informed of the price. Driver was embarrassed and it seemed clear from his reaction that he was used to this.

I have used Athena a few times to go to JFK and had a great experience each time. It cost $ 32 to go from Astoria to JFK, which isn’t bad at all. Their website makes it easy to ensure that they have the correct information. After you submit it, they call you to double check. The dispatchers are friendly, as are the drivers and they’re always a few minutes early.
The first time I went to JFK was during rush hour on a Thursday evening. The driver knew every back road, but still stayed along the highway, so he didn’t veer off too far. I don’t think I would have made my flight (well, it was delayed anyway, of course) had he not. Definitely deserves 5 stars!
