This place has been in Astoria forever and fabric stores outside of the garment district are almost extinct.
Had the pleasure of visiting this past weekend and it was complete eye candy for those who are creative and into fashion.
They not only carry fabric but also many trinkets, unique novelty items, jewelry and things. Reasonable prices and friendly staff. Oh and may I mention the friendliest greeter of all, their male cat. He will jump on your lap apparently if you are sitting down. Lol
As soon as I start my sewing class, I will hit up Broadway Silk.

Love this little shop! I happened to pass by on Halloween and was lured in by their reasonably priced unique jewelry. I ended up leaving with a pewter ring and a really interesting sundial necklace. The elderly woman with a cat who works there held it with interest as I paid her, and said she had never seen it there before. Clearly it’s cursed and I’m in the process of living through the beginnings of a horror movie, will update my review accordingly.

Charming place. Couple that owns it are very nice and welcoming. Their cat is adorable. Unique gifts and fabrics all reasonably priced. My go to gift stop in the area.

Great experience — so glad I found it! A friend recommended I check it out since I was looking for some lace/​ribbon to make a headband/​veil for my upcoming wedding. I was not totally sure what I wanted to do and the owner was very helpful and patient with my indecisiveness. She had some really good suggestions and I am very happy with the stuff I bought.
I also ended up buying a necklace — the jewelry in the shop is interesting and unique and reasonably priced.
I think this is a great neighborhood place with a good selection for the size of store and the customer service is fantastic. Also very easy to get to from the broadway stop on the N/​Q

This place is such a hidden gem. A fabric store from the outside, which also sells a truly fabulous and affordable array of gifts: mainly jewelry, but also cute random stuff like flasks, candles, glasses, and so on. I don’t know if I’ll ever have the need to buy fabric, but it hasn’t prevented me from stopping in Broadway Silk Store every weekend on my errand-​running. When you walk in, you are greeted by the most majestic friend — a large orange cat that is so fluffy I could die. He’s worth the visit, if you are a cat person. This is a terrific place to get gifts for yourself and friends who love jewelry with an edge, and the best part is that everything is unique and completely affordable. Seriously, I have yet to see something more than $ 18. I hope this place does enough business to stay in business, because I’ll be crushed if they go away. So, moral of this review, is if you live in Astoria, like cats and jewelry, go there and pay them a visit!

You’d never know how awesome this place is just by walking by. Until my sister brought me over the weekend, I’d never given it a second thought as more than a neighborhood fabric shop.
But first of all, there’s a majestic, lion-​esque, friendly, fluffy kitty holdin’ down the fort which makes my heart happy. I did my share of petting.
Beyond that, they have a fantastically funky selection of jewelry (all for an average of $ 10-​$ 12), prints and unique gifts that seem SO out of place in a fabric market. And yet, I left with $ 50 worth of accessories and framed prints that would have cost a hell of a lot more in some pretentious Brooklyn boutique (or even on Etsy for that matter).
A welcome surprise. I’ll be back next time I visit Astoria.

The fabric is not very accessible but they have a nice selection of fabric. They have a nice variety of laces and ribbons. Also, living less than a block away from here is a plus. I’d like it if some of the fabrics were closer to access, as I previously stated. Sometimes, I want to look closely at the fabric and feel it. By the way, I love the orange cat.
In my opinion, if you need to travel to get here, there are much better options.

This place is great — huge selection of fabrics, jewelry, and gift stuff. Hope to see this store up and running for years to come.

Awesome selection of cute gifts/​jewelery! I’ve bought numerous little ‘Positive thinking’ gifts for friends and myself. The staff is very sweet and very helpful. Best prices i’ve ever seen for the merchandise.

The Broadway Silk Store is a charming fabric and notions shop tucked away on Broadway between 35^th and 36^th streets. It’s small, but has a decent selection of fabrics. I stopped in to see if I could save myself a trip, for convenience sake, and I found fabric for a skirt I was attempting to build and lining and elastic to match. Easy score and I got down to sewing within the hour — gotta love that!
I did find the store charming, but also somewhat difficult to navigate. Nothing is labeled and it is best to just ask for assistance right off the bat. The woman tending the shop is very helpful without being invasive or pushy. There’s also a really funny orange colored guard cat that resides on the cash wrap which adds to the charm.
There is also a new addition to the store — craft-​based mercy. If you are looking for a last minute gift, something original and cute, you might be able to find a small trinket here. It’s worth a peek. I should also note that the prices for my fabric seemed pretty reasonable — $ 3.99/ yard for a floral patterned cotton and $ 1.99/lining.
I would like to see this small luxury of a shop continue to grow.

This littlel store carries a good selection of fabrics and the woman who was working when I went in was very nice and helpful, but not at all pushy.
I went in while killing time yesterday afternoon and poked around for a bit. It’s very cozy inside and they also carry some handmade jewelry and gift items such as reusable shopping bags, wallets and hair clips at really reasonable prices… it’s the kind of stuff you’d see on Etsy for a fraction of the price.
They also have a very friendly, poofy cat on premis:)

Half the store was filled with craft and textile fabrics. The other half were for garment-​making. There were some fun pattern prints in the crafts including seasonal/​holiday ones.
I loved how the store had a vintage feel with various notions and gifts for sale, and the fabrics were on wooden shelves. There wasn’t a great big variety of garment fabrics– it’s a hit or miss when finding the type in the particular color you want. I saw a few I liked only for it to come in colors I didn’t want. Prices are more than reasonable though. $ 5.50/yard for wool blend? Hell yeah!
The woman behind the counter was extremely nice and helpful.
Although I wasn’t sure if they were her kids or grandchildren that were hanging out in the store. It made the experience less customer-​friendly and less-​commercial since the 3 of them kept on going off about their classmates. DON’T. CARE.
There’s a $ 1 bin in the front that has various leftover fabric for a piece (a yard) for $ 1. Couldn’t find anything in it that was worth buying though even for a $ 1.
Fun gifts and nicknacks and unique jewelry for sale too. I had to refrain myself from buying any of them before entering the store to buy fabric.
One star taken off because of THE CAT that’s in the store.
I left with my lungs burning and in a sneezing fit. :(

My favorite fabric store in NYC. The people at Broadway silks are always helpful any time I drop in for pins, button hooks or laces trimming. They also carry a tempting variety of jewelry

Let me start this by saying I have never actually been here. But after the phone call I just had, I will never go to this store. However, I just called and the person who answered was extremely rude to me, cutting me off while I asked a question about a very specific type of button for a denim jacket. I just wanted to know if they carried buttons of that nature (so I didn’t have to make a wasted trip). I was being polite, and we were on the phone for no more than 30 seconds. What a disappointment and a turn off. I will be bringing all of my business elsewhere in Astoria.

I went in this evening without really knowing much other than I wanted to make a few throw pillows for my bed. I haven’t sewn in years and the woman was so patient in helping show me what I’d need and how I’d need to plan out the process. I love having a local fabric shop so close and even if they weren’t already extremely affordable, I’d pay extra just to keep places like this in the neighborhood. They have a decent $ 1 bin, too, which is what caught my eye first. I’m no expert but it seemed like they keep a good stock of basic fabrics, satins and cottons and such and lots of patterns. Definitely will be back!

I went in planning on not talking to the store people (because i am an incredibly awkward person) but the old man was so genuinely nice i soon found myself telling him what i was working on and him helping me pick out exactly the things I needed. I even wound up buying my fabric i was planning on getting somewhere else because they had such reasonable prices on quality durable material.
they have all different types of fabric and the basics like zippers & buttons. If you are looking for something really unusual like a gold lamé fabric or some kind of crazy hardware, they probably wont have it, but its definitely worth going here for the basics!
Its a family run business where you can tell they really appreciate your business and try to help you as much as possible.
I am always for supporting small local business :)

The couple that runs the place were very helpful. They reopened their store for me as they were about to lock up and leave for the night.
It’s really nice that they’re willing to you out even if they’re about to go home.

This small fabric store is full of a variety of fabrics. The $ 1 bin outside lured me into the actual store.
The store itself is full of charm and old fashioned radios. An older couple runs the place; they were very nice and helpful in finding fabrics for me.
The fabric variety is good, if a little simple. You can find some hard working fabrics here in many colors and types, from silk to cotton to upholstery. There are some notions — they had zippers, patterns, needles, thread and buttons as well as a basket full of sewing starter kits. All the basics are covered.
