Worst service ever. Deliver food in 2 hours. Order was so little and side orders were even smaller. Called to complain and owner picked up and gave me an attitude instead of fixing the problem. Tell me that I don’t know how to order and not to order here anymore. It’s a pity when decent food becomes worse with Time

Steak should be simple. The concept is, meat + grill, optimize the heat to get optimal results. Steak should never be overcooked! A little overpriced for the cuts served. I hope to see you improve.

Nothing was great about this place. To me this place is average. Food was okay and service was good. They need to stop bringing Poland Spring and can sodas to the tables and instead pour them out in the back. I think I was charged for the bottle of Poland Spring opposed to being offered a tap water option.

Slow service, very unorganized, the orders were all backed up half orders came out 20 mins after ordering the rest came about an hour later when half of our 5 person party was done eating. Will definitely reconsider coming to this place the only plus is getting bottled poland spring which was room temperature which came right off the floor near the bathroom. Don’t come to this place unless you have 2 hours to waste and dont care to eat your meal together. These guys also walk with your food outside since they have a location next door, the people at the location next door constantly leave the door open even in frigid 30 degree weather Owner is too cheap to put on the heat as he thought the heat from the open kitchen will heat up the whole eating area he was mistaken. Never going back don’t go to this place!

so not worth it! they are totally overpriced and seriously the food was nothing special. we wanted kofta and kebab so we chose to come here. the meats were so dry and overcooked, and had a very strange seasoning. neither juicy nor charcoal-y. just blah, but priced as if it were kyclades or MP taverna, or any of the hundreds of other BETTER restaurants in astoria. yes the bread is made in house, but it’s not light and fluffy the way other middle eastern restaurants make it. the portions of the salads and meats are small. they don’t serve tap water, they charge you for individual bottles of water. instead of satisfying a want for egyptian comfort food, it just felt like a typically disappointing egyptian dining experience. we won’t be returning.

One word: disgusting. Cold tasteless greasy nasty sorry excuse for food. If the owners are Egyptian they should be ashamed. Two sandwiches that were supposed to come with tahini came dry. Lentil soup was ice cold, flavorless and greasy. Without a doubt the worst takeout I’ve had in NYC ever. Stay away.

Have been coming here for the past 2 years. This is by far the best restaurant in New York and New Jersey for authentic Egyptian and middle eastern dishes. They bake their own fresh pita bread here, which is absolutely delicious. The quality of the meat is really good and their grills are juicy and very tasty. Last but not least, the stuffed mix is amazing.

My boyfriend lives in Astoria, home to a wide variety of ethnic restaurants. We decided to try out this place since it’s conveniently located on Steinway. The service was excellent. The waiter was very attentive & took the time to explain the Egyptian style dishes to us. My boyfriend ordered the Bronzeiny, which looked delicious. His only complaint was the bones on the fish. I enjoyed the shrimp tajin, which was served in a clay pot. We had hummus for appetizers, which was ok. Nothing special. I loved my fresh mango drink. If you are in the Astoria area, it may be worth checking this place out.

I come here for Iftar dinners during Ramadan. The food is all you can eat and they offer so many kinds of food such a rice, curries, steak tips, squid tangine curry, salads, stuffed grape leaves, etc. they serve tea and for different kinds of sherbets. My favorite is the white drink it’s so refreshing and sweet. The décor is nice and the servers are very attentive. It’s a nice communal place to break fast. I hope to come back here again in a few months.

The food was great. It is real Egyptian home cooking, moussaka, mombar, bread and hummus are perfect. Service is great, humble and courteous. Will definitely go back there.

This place would’ve received a five star if it wasn’t for the unasked bottled water. I did not receive water service and neither did I get a jug of water or EVEN a glass. Basically I was forced to BUY the bottled water. BUTWAIT! I WASHITWITH A GRATUITYFEE! I was forced to pay a gratuity fee when NOONE served me water. Two stars for decent food and a clean table. This place needs to stop forcing people to BUY water and stop forcing people to pay gratuity fee when there is no water service. I would not recommend this place to a friend.

It was weird to find flies flying around our table the whole time in the winter. Asked the waiter to be seated elsewhere due to the bugs he said he can’t see them. The food is bland. Overpriced. Steak was dry and cold. They give you poland spring bottled water but don’t tell you that you have to pay for them. I suggest saving your money and stay away from this place. 2 thumbs down

This was my first visit to this place. though it is clean and nicely decorated, they are were late in bringing my order and the portions were very small, even with the salad and bread. We had to order extra bread and salad. they are cheap even with bread. I gave two stars mainly because the grilled chicken and meat were perfectly done, though the portions again were small. I would recommend this place, but I advise and one going there to ask clearly to separate different order, not only with the main course but also with salad, bread and rice, so as not to give them a chance to manipulate quantities, They charge high prices, so they must provide speedy service and generous quantities!

Assalam Alaikum, I was in New York City during first week of Jul 2014, and was looking for good halal steak house. I found this on internet and was looks like a good place to go. In Ramadan they offer Iftar Buffet @ $ 30 person(expensive). and I was so disappointed there. first of all I didn’t know what I was eating because there were 5 or 6 dishes and none of them was label with name. only one type of salad, that I saw first time in buffet other wise In buffet you get different type of salads. one type of juice which was tasteless. none of any type of sauce(Tahini/Hummus etc) they serve small amount of food in the buffet, most of the food was finished within 10 mins, when I asked the server, he replied very rudely that Today we were expecting less people because of rain so we didn’t cook much and we are out of food. WOW they are charging $ 30 and saying they cooked less because of rain and thinking less people will come. anyways desert was hidden some where and I got it when I asked the waiter where is the desert. it was in the box a piece of Baklava and a small piece of cake. I took tea which was Lipton tea bad and they charge me $ 2 for just a tea bag and hot water. I wait there for extre 20 mins and call 3 time to the waiter just for paying the the bill. I will neither go there again not recommend some body. Thanks

I’ve been here at least five times, so I’m hoping this qualifies me as an authority on Cairo Steakhouse, which has now re-branded itself as Cairo Grill & Seafood with a new logo(confession: despite my self-proclaimed title of being an authority of this restaurant, I haven’t been here since they’ve updated their new logo + name; however, I was here as recent as about 2 months ago). Anyway, please take into consideration that I’m reviewing this as a halal-only meat eating dude where the concept of a halal steakhouse joint is rare and heard about on the streets as urban legends are. Onwards… EVERY single time I’ve been here, this place is nearly empty. I’ve been here as early as 11am and as late as 8pm, so I’m really baffled by it. Cairo’s is quite spacious on the inside and it has«upscale» seating. Upscale is purposely in quotes, because I’m taking into consideration the area/block that it lives on(i.e. in comparison to the adjoining restaurants) and also that for some reason there are not a lot of nice-looking halal establishments especially when compared to «regular»(i.e. non-halal) restaurants. Nonetheless, the flavor of Cairo’s environment goes splendidly with the area it is in and the windows during the spring and summer months are open to allow for an outdoor-esque dining experience. OK, let’s get to what you want to know about: the meat. To put it simply, the steaks here are legit, bro. I’ve never had any issues with their quality or taste. It’s halal steak/meat heaven and every Muslim who observes halal eating must find it in their schedules to come to Cairo’s. I’ve been a happy customer each time and that includes my family and friends. They cook it as requested and typically the side sauces they use are freakin good. So, thanks. That’s all I have to say about their meat. But, let’s also talk about some things that have been disappointing just so you don’t think I work for these dudes or am the nephew, son, family friend, etc.(i.e. why I haven’t rated it 5 stars): — Chicken dish: DUUUDE! These guys had an amazingly succulent chicken dish that is now gone as per my last visit! WTH? That dish was good. Get it back. My wife would get that every time and each time I always looked forward to taking a portion of her chicken when she wasn’t looking. — Add back some more meat choices. I’ve noticed over the past year or two that the steak options are less. WTH x2, Cairo’s? How can you be a steakhouse(or «grill and seafood») joint without having a good amount of steak options? Surely you realize how much — again, at least the halal-only world — salivate at the idea of experiencing steaks at a nice restaurant? Anyway, my feelings are hurt and it’s only partly because I’m a tad emo, but mostly disappointed. — Stop changing your menu. I feel like in general things are added/subtracted every time I’m here. Consistency is key. I look forward to experiencing the new logo/name of Cairo’s and pray that you don’t destroy the good rep you’ve earned out on the streets… cheers
