Candy Plum

This place closed in September 2011. Not sure how reviews can still be written for a business that is now a vacant space (11/​1/​11???) except that the original owner of this place, who is now in a related business under a different name, has a VERY shady history, and using the word shady is very kind. Not sure about the person who owned it when it closed but it is out of business at the Astoria location.

I hate dressing like other people and shopping at chain stores. Candy Plum is the answer for anyone with the same feeling. I bought a jacket here a year ago, not only is it unique but still fashionably relevant. I get stopped on the street constantly when i wear this coat and I have Candy Plum to thank for that. Every time I go in, i find something new that I love, and the prices are reasonable as well. Great job, thanks for the good looks!

I love Candy Plum! I wandered in one afternoon, looking schlumpy and pushing my baby in a stroller, kind of worn out and feeling like I’d insufficiently cared for myself in the past year since he was born. I left with an awesomely chunky handmade statement necklace for a thoroughly reasonable $ 20 and a spring in my step about the retail pampering I’d just alloted myself.
I really appreciate their handmade within the community ethos – it’s like Etsy Local without the shipping! Their prices are so low that I’d be willing to give the artisans more than they’re charging. The salesperson was friendly – unobtrusive yet nice, without the snobbery that you occasionally find in similar Brooklyn boutiques. I haven’t been back in the month or two since I’ve discovered the place because I suck, but I’ll rectify that soon.

I bought this awesome blouse here that I can wear for work or for an outing and everyone always asks me where i got it. I love places that have unique pieces, and this is one of them. Kudos to this place for represnting the local artists.

It’s a nice place, if you aren’t bigger than a size 10. The people in there are generally nice but sometimes you get the snooty feeling from them. When I look through jewelry, I get stared at but the thing is, the jewelry is a tad bit expensive.
I give this place 5 stars on a different subject for supporting local talent and artists.

Everything here is basic, with a unique individualized flair. Stand-​outs are the dresses, and tanks with ribbons attached. They also have fantastic jewelry and handbags. If you’re looking for something different, but still comfortable enough to wear on a daily basis, this is the store for you.

Most of the stuff in Candy Plum [and boutiques in general] is a tad too expensive for me. I’m ridiculously cheap when it comes to clothing and accessories, though, so I don’t want to completely fault the store because some of their jewelry was interesting and cute and would be things I’d wear if I was a little more free with money [most of the jewelry I saw was at least $ 20 and up]. I’m just the kind of person who scoffs at the prices of handmade items at Renegade or on Etsy and goes to Target to revel in their dollar section so just know where I’m coming from.
That said, in one little section of the store is a $ 5 rack of clothes. Now THAT’S what I’m talking about! It’s not a huge selection — it’s a small store — but my friend and I bought two wacky DIY-​type shirts [think random bits of mismatched fabric haphazardly sewn on in strange places] and two nice skirts. Most of the clothes in that section were sizes M and L which was a little sad because we’re both smalls and it limited our choices but we picked things that would at least be easy to alter smaller.
Owner was helpful and nice — she was the one who actually pointed out the $ 5 section when we walked in otherwise we never would have realized it because there were no signs or anything — but was not overbearing, uncomfortable, or pushing us to make a sale as is sometimes typical in tiny boutiques. She also gave us coupons for a future purchase so now obviously I have to go back.

I’m all for supporting places that showcase local talent, and I’m very glad a place like this exists in Astoria. Although the store itself is small and jam-​packed, they have a surprisingly diverse selection of great jewelry to pick from. Prices range from astoundingly cheap to slightly pricey, but I’d venture to say there’s something for every girl. I got a sweet pair of silver earrings overlaid with floral ceramic pieces (apologies for not knowing appropriate jewelry lingo) that I get compliments on every time I wear them. $ 20 ($ 25?) well-​spent.
There’s also a small selection of clothing and funky bags to choose from. If you’re looking for an I heart Astoria t-​shirt, you’ll probably find one here!
The woman at the cash register was very friendly, but wasn’t in my face. That was also appreciated.
Since the selection seemed to change the two times I’ve been there, I plan on visiting again soon.

I make sure to stop in here any time i’m near by. The last two times I have found beautiful pieces for $ 10 marked down from $ 132 and $ 70. They have great hand made clothes and jewelry from local designers. A couple things are a little too funky or overpriced for my taste but I can always find something worth trying on in this super small but great boutique. Plus the girl who works there is really pleasant.

Candy Plum is a rare find in Astoria. It has trendy, moderately priced jewelry, accessories, and clothes (many by local designers.) I went there to get a birthday present for a girlfriend and she loved the necklace I chose. They giftwrap too. Friendly staff and really neat and unique finds. The only drawbacks? It’s far away from my place and it’s kind of small (but it is a boutique afterall!)

I went in to Candy Plum on the recommendation of friend and otherwise I wouldn’t have noticed it! It’s very tucked away but I’m glad I made the trip. It’s a pretty adorable little spot and they always seem to have new stuff. It’s a great place to get something unique for a friend (or for yourself!). Honestly some of the stuff does seem a little overpriced for me but maybe I’m just a cheapskate… it IS a boutique after all.

This place is very cute. Prices are lower than you would expect in Manhattan and there is a lot of variety. Haven’t gotten anything there yet, but I will definitely be back to see what they have this fall.

As far as adorably girly boutiques go, this place is the shiz-​nit.
Things I saw and loved: pendants made with dominoes with delicate paintings on the non-​domino side, lots of chunky plastic and leather-​with-​natural-​stones wrist cuffs, some very cute bags ranging from fancy beaded clutches to casually painted totes, ostrich feather earrings, lots of vintage and «vintage» accessories.
Also saw some more unfortunate stylings of bags, jewelry and clothing — but nothing offensively awful. With interesting pieces like the ones they sell here, there are bound to be some hit and miss items.
It’s not stuff that everyone will be wearing and yet it’s priced for the people. I like it. I like it a lot. I wish it was near my house instead of on a little side street in Queens, but if it was I’d be poor. Well accessorized, but poor.

maybe cause I am not a new yorker that i found this place a bit… tacky.
They sell jewerly that looks like an 8 year old put together with pop-​it beads. The clothing is just too frilly and full of ruffles and lace for the liking of anyone over the age of 6.
Did find $ 50 «seven» jeans but i won’t be surprise if thay are not authentic.

What a cute little boutique, it’s as nice as the ones lining E. 9^th St. I can’t believe it’s a 5 minute walk from my place and I never knew about it until now! The pieces are more towards the urban/​hip variety and are very neat. The jewelry has a vintage feel to it. Also love the handbags.

Love this place! Unique and beautiful jewelry pieces. And a great little spot to pick up a gift for a friend. Totally affordable, too.

I love Candy Plum, even though I recently moved out of the neighborhood, I still stop by to check out the great selection of jewelry and clothing from emerging designers. I recently scored a cute pair of beaded hoop earrings for around $ 20, and I wear them all the time.

This is THE place to shop if you want to STAND out from the crowd…(unlike A&F!). One of a Kind pieces at this boutique means you will always find something super cute for yourself or a gift!
The owners are genuinely friendly and will help you pick something out if you are unsure what looks best on you! The prices are also really reasonable!
My favorites are the self adjustable, fabric covered bead necklaces called «beadscarves». perfect! love ‘em! ;)
