Side note on my Unilocal map the location is way off… the address is correct so just make sure you check that and not the map. The bar is close to the Broadway N/Q station. Love this bar! Simple Irish pub… great beer great bartenders what more could you ask for? Well maybe food but that’s ok you can order delivery. Calmer on the weekdays which is nice. They have small tvs if you’re interested in watching some games. Music is a mix.

The type of Irish draft-house that used to lace the streets of midtown NYC. Very comforting knowing that you can roll in anytime and have a great pint of Guinness. No frills no thrills just a good place to have a drink and conversation.

When I feel like staying local, this is THEBAR I go to. How I Met Your Mother had MacLaren’s, I have Gilbey’s. Like HIMYM, I have a booth I usually sit at, though I have frequented other tables around the place. Like the table right by the fireplace during the frigid Winter. The bartenders, Mike and Collum, are both great. If you want a proper pint of Guinness, or a variety of Irish whiskeys, Gilbey’s is the place. But since it’s my favorite bar, please disregard everything I just wrote and stay out of my booth!

Best bar in Astoria. Absolutely love this place. Mike is indeed the man. I don’t think there’s a bad time to go there(except when it’s closed) but I would recommend getting there before too late if you have a large group. It tends to fill up the later it gets. I have closed this bar many a night and will again.

This place has been around for ages. It used to be called Gibney’s but when some of the ownership changed they had to tweak the name. Mike, the bartender, is a good guy and always a lot of fun. Always has a good joke and pours great drinks. This place is my favorite earlier in the week. The weekends tend to get a bit crowded for me(I’m getting old). It’s one of the only bars where you can actually get a real 20oz pint which is a dying breed these days. So many places are cutting corners but Gilbey’s sticks to the old ways. It’s clean and well done. You will feel like you are in a pub in Ireland when you are there. It’s just a good feel.

Why have I never been in this bar before? It’s so close to the Broadway subway stop. It looks like my favorites bar in the city(dark wood, old lights, no frills). Drinks are cheap. Not too crowded on a snowy Saturday and the crowd was an eclectic mix, as eclectic as Astoria has become. With all the hipster spots opening up around the area, this place is a refreshing local bar that stays true to its roots. Now, I don’t know how this place is on a late weekend night, but it’ll definitely be my go-to place for an after work drink or weekend respite from this gloomy-ass winter weather.

A few friends and I celebrated new years eve in this bar after visiting mad donkey and seeing that it was a mad house in there and random gay drunk guys trying to fight us so we walked around in search of another bar and we went into gilbeys which surprisingly wasn’t too packed but there was a good guy to girl ratio they have guiness on tap which is the first question I ask when I step into a bar for the first time the prices for beers shots and mixed drinks are very reasonable they even gave us buybacks on new years eve they charged our phones also when we requested stronger drinks they obliged without any hassle and even gave us free shots at the end of the night the only reason for a missing star was the bathroom is cramped with 1 toilet and 2 fountains so it’s a literal sausage feast in there but to sum it up a great new years eve highly recommend and will definitely be back soon

Great local pub. Cheap drinks, they always give buy backs and somehow the final bill always seems extremely less than what you would think. Also, Mike is the man. If your scene is Bungalo like another reviewer said, then obviously you wont like this place because… well … you go to Bungalo and enjoy it. Also, another reviewer mentioned that theres a B&T crowd. What the hell ??? The bar is in Queens !!! Anyway, if you like to get a cold cheap beer at an unpretentious old school pub then this is your place. If you want to go to a place where theres a DJ on a poster when you walk in and every girl looks like jwoww then dont.

Great bar, cheap drinks and they do buy backs. Best place to pregame and they’re right on Broadway — a block away from the train station which is perfect for me.

Why I’ve put off reviewing Gilbey’s I don’t know. They really don’t need specials because everything is ridiculously cheap(for NY.) Well, pretty cheap in general. Jameson’s is 5.50 and Guinness is too-if I remember correctly(usually my mind isn’t too sharp when I walk in and it’s even duller when I walk out.) I’ve never really had a bad time here and the bartenders are friendly and old school-ever have a bartender get a round after you’ve had a few? It’s rare enough anywhere nowadays, much less New York. The staff here seem to practice that like it’s the Gospel. Go, go on any night and see what happens. Quiet or packed it’ll be a good time.

Def the definition of a dive bar, but always great bartenders and amazing prices(it’s an Irish bar, after all!) Great place to start or end the night with a few drinks

Came here on a Friday night for drinks and I had a good time. Drinks were good and so was the company. I liked that they had a variety of music playing.

Nice little spot for a solo drink during the week! A shot of jameson is only $ 6! Go across the street to BREAK and a shot of house whisky is $ 9! So Gilbeys has great prices. Whenever I come here i see people alone just having a drink so I don’t feel like an oddball doing that myself. I’ve also been here on the weekend and it does get pretty busy with little groups. So, maybe don’t come here alone on a weekend since it’s hard to get a seat at the bar which is the only acceptable solo seating spot! Who wants to sit in a table by themselves? NOWTHAT’S a little oddballish. So go with friends or go alone, no matter what you’ll get a good deal in a nice little intimate bar setting.

Me and my boyfriend go to Gilbey’s because it is cheap; the bartenders are fantastic; it is NOT pretentious; there is a jukebox… and weirdly enough, I like how dark it is with Christmas lights over the bar… reminds me of what you’d think a Cheers bar should really look like. There is nothing trendy or wild about this place. Just bring a good drinking buddy and you will have a great night.

If your looking for place to enjoy a quite drink or an intimate place with the wife or have some conversation with friends, Gilbey’s is the place. It is not loud or packed with beer muscle jerks. It is a dark space with a lovely bar and plenty of seating for your pleasure. I sound like the Love Boat commercial, but what can I say, it is a very welcoming bar. Astoria is fortunate to have a variety of bars and restaurants. They all have particular characteristics and Gilbey’s has the best of them with the kind of place your going to like from day one. It seems to attract a laid back crowd that enjoys the full bar experience of a drink, conversation, people or TV watch. The place is very comfortable across the board. Gilbey’s has your standard full bar set up. Standard beers and liquors with a few Craft beers plus a tasty Guinness. Plenty of seating to take the edge off and a gas fireplace is a nice touch. Very nice winter bar. Attentive bartenders. Reasonable pricing. Buybacks. Decent music. Nice neighborhood clientele. Gilbey’s is a great neighborhood bar were a lady can walk in and enjoy a drink, conversation or some quite time. This is my kind of place. To be able to relax, have a delicious Guinness and watch a game without the jerks. Gilbey’s is a real winner.

Well, being that I only remember the first half of my evening here, I have to say I like this place. When I ordered a Jameson on the rocks for my friend and a Ketel One martini for myself, the total was, like $ 13 or $ 14. For both. I was all«Hell yeah!» and from that point on, things got fuzzy. I do recall there being some whiskey shots being sent over to my friend and I, and I know I enjoyed my martini because there was another round of them after the first. I am pretty sure I made out with an Irish guy at the bar. I’m also pretty sure he keeps texting me, though I have no recollection of giving him my number. It has a nice neighborhood feel, and the patrons here tend to be less sketchy than the ones who frequent Break Bar across the street. I remember there being a large contingency of Irish folk here, including the bartender and several customers, and the bartender seemed to know everyone-probably a lot of regulars here. I don’t know if I can show my face here again after the night I had, but I like this place and it’s pretty cheap, so I might just have to come back.

When I first walked in I was automatically turned off by the rock type music that played through out. I was pleased to see a young crowd though. Everyone looked to be in their 20’s or so. The crowd was primarily white, more so Mediterranean(as opposed to the type of white I spoke about in my Mad Donkey review). I did see a few brownies up in here(plus I came with my brownie :), but it seemed like everyone was having a chill time. I saw(what looked like) two people dry humping each other and making out the second I walked in. Definitely a plus in my book! The reason we didn’t stay is because Bungalo is right next store, and its totally more of my scene then Gilbeys. Oh I should also mention there was no where to sit here, but for the type of atmosphere I would have like to sit. There was no. dancing or anything like that, and we arrived around 1:30am. We were going to start off with shots, and leave, but didn’t. I might come back here to Pregame if the drink prices are inexpensive. Looks like a fun drunk spot! But the music is just the worst(opinion only)…hope it changes up through out the night!
