We love this place! Andy is the nicest guy, and always offers a sample of their hot soup of the day, which is always DELICIOUS. Best soup ever. We moved near by less than a week ago, and I’ve already been three times. Must try!

Such friendly service! The gent behind the counter offered me a sip of soup and a great sense of humor. I think he was in training, because the man chatting with friends at a table had to get up and help him with my order. I wish it had been better. The falafel was decent, the hummus blah. I got a plate and had assumed there would be rice, which there is not, though that’s fine. The«salad» was a tiny bit of very wimpy lettuce and a bit of tomato, and the tabbouleh was okay. I would have been happier with a falafel sandwich I think, so I’ll probably try lunch here. It’s a better value for the money.

There are so few places where the owners are hands on. There are even fewer places where the owner is someone who is as extremely friendly and open as here. :) I heard so much good stuff from friends who have been here personally that while I was in the area I decided to scope it out. I was not disappointed. I love ethic food, and I was surprised to see that the menu here is wonderfully diverse. Where else can you find Lebanese, Indian, and Korean items in one place? I’m a strict vegetarian and upon walking in from the cold, I was kindly offered a sample of hot vegetable soup(which by the way, was AWESOME.) I immediately knew what I wanted. Which was said soup, and the falafel platter. During the wait for the food which wasnt very long, Andy engaged me in pleasant small talk and also Im super awkward I enjoyed it. The place is easy to miss because its literally a hole in the wall, and unless you were looking for it you would easily walk by. I urge you all to slow down in Astoria and look for it!

Everytime I walk in the owner is there with a smile on his face. More often than not he offers a free soup sample. Ive only ever ordered the falafel sandwich which is delicious, but everything looks good!

If more people in this world were like Andy, the owner of Homemade Falafel, there would be a lot more peace and harmony(and happy bellies). He went above and beyond to make sure my holiday party was a success. I had him cater food for about 50 guests last weekend. The price was very reasonable and he even delivered the order personally to our office in Long Island City. Everyone said the food was incredibly delicious, fresh and flavorful. He threw in cocktail samosas for free and they were a huge hit. The chicken shawarma was hands down a knockout! The falafel, babaganoush, tabouleh, and grape leaves were also a smash. People were almost drinking the green mint sauce! I am planning to visit him at the restaurant in Astoria since he was so kind and so gracious. His food is made with love and he is truly a one-of-a-kind gem. Homemade Falafel is a must. THANKYOU!

Cute little store with excellent fresh Mediterranean food. I had the sheikh kebab platter, tasted really fresh and not dry. Andy is super friendly and gives great service. Yum yum!

Wow. The most fresh and best Falafel I’ve had in my humble opinion. If you are in the area you owe it yourself. If you haven’t every tried Falafel yet this would be the place to start! I’ll be back!

My first experience here Andy treated us like we are family. Offered us this tomato soup shot which was delicious warm and lots of flavors… After spin class we wanted something heathy to eat so i opted for a chicken kebab. Which came with pickles hummus salad tabbouleh and pita. Tabbouleh was fresh and crisp, the hummus nice and cold. And the chicken delicious… Will have to come back to try some more! Place is tiny so you could pass by this place easy!

I was nearby in Woodside and was in search of a late night healthy bite. I stumbled across HMF in my Unilocal search. As my mouth watered viewing the photos, I decided on the Falafel sandwich. Andy the owner was very humorous and welcoming. He made a joke referring to his Falafel as «The Worst in all Astoria». He handed my friend and I samples of a tomato based soup with rich indian spices. His special menu featured Paneer and Tikka Masala chilis, which to me were very interesting and done creatively. I placed my order and watched him scoop out a fresh mix of ground chick peas for my fried falafel. It was wrapped in an interesting wrap. He did not cut it and explained to me it’s the Lebanese style of falafel sandwich. The falafel was LARGE and well seasoned. CRISP to perfection. The pita was filled with lettuce, tomato and the special white Tahini sauce we all love. I’ve had better Tahini, this one was a bit watered down. This was the only core piece missing! The falafel is definitely high quality. I had a bit of gas after digesting it but it was Worth it! I will be back to sample the chilis.

The food here is out of this world. Never tasted anything like the dish I ordered. Amazing flavour. Made fresh with real spices I got the Afghani chicken rice dish. I have eaten a lot of foods from around the world and never tasted anything like this. The man and woman working here this night were also super friendly. Support this great local business.

A quick dinner before a reunion with my ex — roommates. I ordered beef shawama(I may spell it wrong) and it is so good!!! The staff was also very friendly and make sure I liked my food. The only one star taken away is the space. Very tiny space, can only fit in 2 small tables and majority of the case you probably can only do take out. I do not live here but if I come visit Steinway I will want to come back again.

We stopped by for a snack because the place looked yummy from the street. The menu was very intriguing, in addition to falafel there were Nepalese momos and lots of Indian dishes listed, but we went for a falafel sandwich and a shwarma sandwich(boring, I know) with a lemonade on the side. Both were good, but what made this stop so nice was the kind owner(who suggested we review him on Unilocal,hi!) If I lived in the neighborhood I would make this place a regular stop for sure.

The food is 3.5 stars, but the owner is very kind and friendly so I give the place 4 stars. It’s a small hole-in-the-wall place with one or two small tables to sit at.

One late night at work my coworker and I were having raging craving for some falafel. After a quick google search of faiafel in the area we found our new home away from home… Homemade Falafel. Since this discovery about a month ago, we have ordered from Homemade Falafel over a dozen times. That’s a lot of falafel(they also have great schwarma!) Our coworkers think we are insane. They might e right, but goddam this is some good falafel.

Places like this are what I live for. It’s just this tiny little hole-in-the-wall place that I’ve passed a hundred times walking around the neighborhood. I always thought, «Hmm. I should try that out sometime» but never did. Until last week when I had a craving for a falafel wrap and remembered this little gem. Was not disappointed! The food is so delicious, generous portions, decent prices, super friendly staff, and the cook(who I think may be the owner) was so utterly EXCITED about preparing our food. What more could you want? Oh right, they also somehow have a tiny outdoor seating area, which we enjoyed right up until the skies opened into a downpour. Can’t wait to go back!

While this place is not much larger than a single piece of falafel, it is a wonderful part of the Astoria food scene. First off, the service is fantastic. I have been here seven or eight times, and each time I am warmly greeted by the staff. The really nail the basics like falafel and meat platters, but it’s also a great place to try some more exotic foods. Momos! I might have been Nepalese in a past life. I tried them for the first time on a cold winter day and they were outstanding. I no longer live in the area, but I make it a point to stop here nearly every time I’m hungry on Broadway.

The owner(staff?) here is incredibly sweet and welcomes you into his little café as if it was his own home. Prices are also great. Unfortunately, the food here is only mediocre at best. We tried their falafel sandwich and korean bonchon chicken. The falafel was decent and the vegetables tasted fresh but was overall, quite bland compared to the ones I’ve tried in Greenwich Village. He also apologized for the korean chicken because his steamer wasn’t working properly and it indeed, it tasted like regular fried chicken, a bit on the mushy side, overloaded with artificially-flavored korean paste. The lemonade was pretty good, with some mint in it for a fun twist. I hope the food quality improves because I would love to see this place run successfully. Their level of service and hospitality are rare to find these days.

I ordered a falafel, tabbouleh and hummus platter to go. I had a craving for falafel and I was hoping to find a falafel place in Queens comparable to Mamouns or Rakka Café in the East Village. I can say that I have yet to find one. I was not impressed with the falafel or hummus. The tabbouleh was tasty. The platter also came with some veggies, which were good. The hot sauce was not homemade, which I prefer.

The owner & workers(former A1 Deli cook) are super friendly & make going there very nice, for such a teeny place. I was very excited when this place opened on a section of Broadway that doesn’t seem to have middle eastern, Indian, bubble tea, or tibetian options. Or when I crave Korean triple fried chicken & don’t want to trek to Ktown or UFC in Jackson Heights. However, I feel the quality has gone down since they first opened. Maybe I should try the falafel. I’ve had the kofta sandwich(previously well spiced & fresh), chicken kabob kati roll, paneer kati roll(both good), Korean chicken wings(on the small side but delicious sauce & crispy), & mango lassi. Recently, craving some decent protein, I went back for a Kofta Platter. The tabouli & hummus that came with it were excellent, but the kofta tasted a little suspicious(maybe old?), with a texture that seemed like it was mixed with too much breadcrumbs/soy protein? It came on a bed of lettuce, with a side of nice lebanese pickles, & wedges of the thin pita. Looking at other reviews, it does seem a bit overpriced for $ 9.99. I got 3 little patties of kofta, cut in half on shredded lettuce, with 2 sides & pita. Maybe other places platters don’t include sides? Or their rent is high due to the location? The food in the refrigerator case looked a little sad, I would like to try the tikka masala maybe some day. The owner Andy also has a beer garden/restaurant in Kew Gardens & has been in the business for 22 years he said. The indiao pasta sounds pretty interesting.
