Came to this restaurant with a party of 7. Just want to put out there, I was the only vegetarian out of the group. However, at the end of the meal, some of my friends said they were willing to become vegetarian/vegan.(Not sure if it will happen though) A really nice and quiet restaurant. Great location as well, not too far of a drive out and if you’re taking the train, not too far from the train station as well(approx. 3 blocks?). They were able to provide glasses for our bottle of champagne(corkage fee: $ 15). Server was very friendly and hospitable. Although, my friends and I were pestering him to take photos of us, our server was always willing and had a smile on. No complaints there. I love the whole Asian theme of the restaurant, not just focusing on one cuisine but different Asian cuisines. I love how you can mix and match while ordering! Food was amazing; I had the bbq ribs, mango salsa scallion pancake, curry samosas, tofu skin wraps and miso soup. I also tried all of my friend’s entrees as well, everything was just as delicious. Will definitely be coming back soon to try the other dishes.

very inspired and original twist on traditionally meat dishes! Felt like the food portions were small compared to the price, but what do you expect from a vegan place?

More like a 3.5, but rounding up to 4 because this restaurant is very good at what it does; it simply is not my preference for food most of the time. The Jujube Tree is a standard NYC pan-Asian vegan restaurant(there are many), but it is unique in that it is the first(and only) all-vegan restaurant in Astoria. For this, its existence alone is very exciting and promising for the area! Per the usual restaurant of this genre, the menu boasts pan-Asian classics such as edamame and spring rolls and noodles, in addition to the wide array of faux meat dishes served up by similar establishments such as Wild Ginger in Brooklyn, Red Bamboo in the Village, and Buddha Bodai in Chinatown. While I submit that fake meats are necessarily my favorite go-to menu option, Jujube Tree’s main entrees are well-prepared and flavorful. They are also quite heavy and overwhelmed by sauce, but this is more attributable to the soy– and seitan-based nature of the dishes and mean necessary to flavor vegan food. In my opinion, the most impressive and attractive section of the menu is «rice and rice bowls.» These are simple, clean, wholesome options that offer a lot of different vegetables in a generous portion. The first time I ate here, I had the bibimbap and really enjoyed it; $ 15 is a pretty fair price for the sheer volume of rice, seitan(although I subbed tempeh), seaweed, chickpeas, etc. — not to mention, a soup is included! The inclusion of this menu category is what distinguishes Jujube from other similar restaurants and increases its appeal to vegetarian diners who might be tired of fake meat. Overall, I definitely like this place and will return in the future.

I have to say I am not a Vegetarian let me correct myself I am a vegetarian because my wife is a vegetarian. Back to the story I have to say I am impressed its vegan food for non vegans. Absolutely tricked my mind and palate. I even order to my office and for a non vegetarian that’s big. The chicken nuggets really taste like chicken. But my favorite is the vegan BBQ ribs. Great job guys.

Disclaimer: I am a meat lover… With that said, feel free to read on. I felt the need to give you my bias before reading my full review. Came to jujube tree with a friend of mine who is Vegan(and I’m open-minded). We had the spring rolls, sweet and sour sesame soy protein, and some dish that you wrap up your own goodness. Everything I ate had a great flavor(the texture of the soy protein chunks was a little strange, but that’s ok). Sauces were delicious and service was a quick. Honestly, I was surprised by how crowded the restaurant was. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. I would eat here again.

Jujube is a vegan and Asian restaurant. They have Chinese, Thai, and Japanese inspired dishes with and without fake meat protein options. I came here very hungry for lunch on a Monday afternoon. I ordered spring rolls and the pineapple fried rice. I was so hungry. I bit into the spring roll and the temperature of the roll was not hot. The second bite was all frozen. Both spring rolls were frozen… !!! I couldn’t finish it, but I nimbled on the ends that were cooked. Then came the fried rice, and my lunch was saved. Man, it was delicious. Just enough saltiness and soy sauce balanced with the avocado crunch on top and warm pineapples for sweetness. It was really nice and I’d come here again for that! Maybe the whole frozen-food thing was a one time occurrence, so I’ll try it again one day. When I do, I’ll update my review.

I had low expectations since I’m a fan of meat but surprisingly, I didn’t miss it at all during this meal. I came with 4 good friends so we were able to try many things. My favorites were the wontons, jap chae, and pineapple fried rice. The mei fun noodle soup was a bit bland for our taste but is definitely a healthy option.

I was looking for a vegetarian place with some Asian flavors in Astoria and passed by Jujube Tree one Saturday afternoon for lunch. The restaurant is quite spacious, so you’re not sitting on top of everyone. There are a lot of options on the menu. We ordered the watercress salad which was a large salad and the Jade Mushrooms main dish. It came with a Miso soup or salad, we chose the soup, and a bowl of brown rice. The dressing for the salad was served on the side, and they were kind to give me another side of dressing without an additional charge. The sesame peanut dressing was tasty and went well with the watercress. The sauce on the jade mushroom was soooo good, it reminded me of General Gau’s chicken sauce. I tried not to eat my friend’s entire dish because that would be rude! We decided to order a couple of items to go, the scallion pancakes and the hijiki salad. Those were completely disappointing and very expensive for the serving size! The pancake was itty bitty sliced in 4 quarters. It shouldn’t have cost more than $ 1, not $ 6, and the hijiki salad was much too salty and had too many edamame peas. I was sick after eating it. Sadly, I have to knock out 1 star, almost 2, but I’ll give it the place another shot and not order those items in the future.

This is a good mid-range vegan asian restaurant. Food is solid, but not mind blowing! Prices are very reasonable, we were 4 people, shared a bottle of wine, 2 appetizers, 1 salad(hijiki salad, delicious would recommend), 4 main dishes and 2 desserts and we ended up paying around $ 35 each with tax and tip included. Very reasonable for NYC. I had to travel to get here and will probably not make the effort anymore. If I would live in the neighborhood this would definitely be one of my regular take-out and dine-in spots.

Still 3 stars. Tried this place again 2x recently. Delivery was quick. But still too pricey for what you get. If you’re actually vegetarian/vegan you’ll probably like this place more. But if you are not, you’ll think it’s just ok. My problem is they are kinda cheap. It’s too pricey for what you get. The rice container is so tiny. Smaller than regular take out rice. Soup container is smaller than normal take out soup container. Brown rice is nice and nutty. Orange seitan is good. But again too little food for the price Bbq ribs are ok. They have a liquid smoke/char taste. Not as sweet as another reviewer commented. I wouldn’t order again though. Pad Thai is a lot of food. Pretty good and a little spicy. Missing that sour bite though. Try a big squeeze of lime. Scallion pancakes are not at all greasy. Actually a little dry and could use a little more of that sweet sauce in the middle. Comes with a mango salsa that’s good but I like it w/o so that’s probably why they are a little dry and hard. So they can hold the salsa. But SOOO tiny. You get 6 tiny pieces for $ 6. Not worth the money.

We came in on a whim. It was a crisp fall afternoon and we craved for something to warm our bones. We wanted something light so we decided to try vegan cuisine. And there it was the answer to our prayers, Tada! Jujube Tree. Even though the place was quite empty we were received very warmly and were seated at a very cozy corner of the restaurant. Service: attentive waiter and diligent waiting staff. However my water glass had a lipstick stain on it. I don’t wear lipstick DX Scallion pancake with mango salsa: it was nice and crispy. Salsa was fresh, tangy, and complimented the pancake very well. Malaysian Curry: the sauce was slightly sweet and nutty however could use some more heat. The green salad wasn’t anything special it just had romaine and iceberg lettuce. The ginger dressing was a bit overwhelming. Udon noodle soup: it was slightly sweet and a bit bland. It needed some heat but they offered the Japanese chili powder on the side. It came with mushrooms, tofu, and bokchoy. Price: the total for our meal came Out to be around 40 dollars with tax and tip included. Not bad for vegan food. We’re non-vegans btw and overall we had an enjoyable experience and are excited for our next vegan adventure!

We were visiting the Museum of the Moving Image and looking for somewhere for dinner around 6pm. My little sister recently became a vegetarian so our family has really enjoyed trying vegan restaurants wherever we go. At first glance, Jujube Tree is very clean and brightly lit. There was only one other table there so we were seated immediately. Our family opted to order a bunch of dishes and enjoy them family style — Crispy Soy Protein, Fried Tofu Wrappers, Mango Soy Protein, General Tso’s Soy Protein, Black Pepper Seitan, and Bibibambap. Our order was taken about 7 minutes after sitting down, then we quickly received water glasses. A few minutes later, we received our pumpkin soup(came with the bibimbap) and salad and miso soup(came with the entrees). The pumpkin soup was sweet and hearty, the salad was topped with the orange Japanese ginger dressing, and the miso soup was flavorful with lots of seaweed and tofu. For the entrees, we really enjoyed the General Tso’s and Black Pepper Seitan(although the broccoli was cut up so small that it was difficult to eat). My only changes would be larger scoops of brown rice. I really enjoyed the Bibimbap — the flavors blended nicely, and each part was also tasty individually. The only disappointment was the Mango Soy Protein. There were nice large mango pieces and crisp vegetables, but the flavor was a little… subdued. There was lots of sauce on the plate, but I wish it had stronger flavors — a little acid, spice, or heat would have gone miles. We also tried the peanut butter mousse on the brownie, which was very sweet but delicious. Overall, service was attentive and friendly, and the food was tasty. I’ll definitely return the next time I’m anywhere near Queens!(It looked like they had some great lunch specials.) FOOD: 4⁄5 ENVIRONMENT: 4⁄5 SERVICE: 4⁄5 VALUE: 4⁄5 OVERALL: 4⁄5

Can’t believe it took me this long to try this place. The appetizers were okay. We got the tofu skin wraps and the samosas. Will try something else next time. Our entrees though, were soooooo good. We got the yaki udon noodles and the general tso’s soy protein. The yaki udon noodles were perfection, although next time I may ask them to go light on the sauce. And the general tso’s soy protein was so crispy and delicious that i have discovered a new appreciation for vegan food!

I am by no means a vegan, nor consider myself an «expert» when it comes to vegan cuisine. I’m too much of a carnivore. Hell, I can probably count on my fingers the number of times I’ve been to a vegan restaurant. But what I can appreciate are great tastes and big flavors, and Jujube Tree has plenty of both. I just moved to the neighborhood and am a new Astorian(is that the proper term?) looking to broaden my palate with the endless array of food options in the area. Came here with a friend the other night. Given that the only green foods I’ve eaten as of late have been green peanut M&M and that my risk of getting scurvy was at an all time high, I figured this place would be a smart choice. The interior is fairly prototypical — clean, medium-sized space, dark wooden tables with options for bench seating, and brick walls with limited décor. No frills. The menu is pretty extensive for a vegan place(at least that’s what my friend told me), and we settled on going family-style with the curry samosas, kale avocado salad, and the bibimbop. The curry samosas were bonkers, better than any I’ve had at any of the Indian or Thai joints in Queens. Very light, with a thin pastry, and full of flavor. The kale avocado salad was equally as tasty — fresh veggies, perfectly dressed, and the marinated mushrooms put the dish over the top. Okay, the bibimbop… while the seitan wasn’t exactly the perfect substitute for fatty, meaty bulgogi, it was still decent; and all the other flavors were on point. The dish was beautifully presented and the accompanying rice and veggies were fantastic. And the gochujang(red sauce), was the perfect spicy complement to round out the dish. The service was fine. Our waiter was friendly, and the food came out fairly quickly. Between the two of us the final bill came out to $ 45 including tax and tip. A little on the pricier side in my opinion for veggies, but again I’m not sure what’s considered expensive when it comes to vegan food. All in all, a great experience. I can see why this place has become so popular, especially in the non-GMO, organic, hormone-free, gluten-fee, grass-fed, free-range landscape that is New York City. Even with all the restrictions that come with a vegan menu, Jujube Tree finds a way to serve delicious, hits-the-spot food that almost makes me forget I’m not eating meat. Almost.

Best vegan place around Astoria. Came here twice so far and both entrees I got were amazing. The beef pepper seitan had tremendous amount of taste and the Chinese broccoli tasted so good with the black pepper sauce. The second time I came I got the general tso’s soy protein because everyone around me was getting it and let me tell you this dish is a must when you come here.

I think about the next time I’m going to eat at this restaurant and which friends or family members I want to expose this place to next! I am so happy coming here– their hijaki(black seaweed salad) with edamame is to die for! I used to have it growing up and the restaurant close to home closed down hence I had forgotten about the deliciousness of this seasoned and well prepped salad! Finding out about this place in Astoria has been a blessing! I don’t mind driving in from Forest Hills or taking the N or Q train to Ditmars after work to come here either! Extremely happy with their pricing, staff is nice and the portions are perfect! I love this place and highly recommend it regardless if one is a meat eater or not!

Jujube Tree you’ve gained a fan. I’m pescatarian but wasn’t in the mood for seafood so my bestie and I decided to give Jujube Tree a try. I drove and was able to find street parking very closeby(scoreeee). We entered the restaurant and were greeted and seated immediately. Our waiter came over promptly and took our drink orders. We browsed the menu and decided to share the scallion pancakes and bi bimbap. They were both yummy and great for sharing. We even had enough to take home. The bestie wasn’t a fan of the faux meat in the bi bimbap but I was! I think it was seasoned well. All in all a good experience. I’d come back.

I am pretty sure that I’ve already written a review about this place, but I feel like I need to write another one, that’s how amazing this place is. I’m not a vegan, I’m not even a vegetarian, and this is my second favorite place to eat in Astoria!(next to Zorba’s, yum!) The environment is great, the service is so sweet and personable, the price is right, and the food is deliciousssss! The black pepper seitan with miso soup and vegetable dumplings is usually what I get. I also enjoy their spring rolls. I didn’t like the seitan kebab, but that’s the only thing. And I didn’t hate it either, the texture was just strange to me. I always leave here feeling full, and not guilty. It’s great.
