Everything was great and the service was extra friendly too! The Greek food was authentic, fresh and creative.

Really good Greek food in a place that seems fairly authentic(I’m not at all an expert on Greek food, but there were tons of customers speaking Greek in there, for whatever that’s worth). We went with a huge group, so we got to try a bunch of different things, and just about everything was really good. The Greek salad, hummus, pita, and dip sampler were all great — exactly what you’d expect the classics to be at a solid Greek place. We also got the chicken breast, chicken souvlaki, and branzino entrees, which were very good. Other highlights were the saganaki and lemon potatoes. Overall, I would definitely recommend — I’m not the biggest fan of Greek food and I really enjoyed this place.

Four of us went and tried practically everything on the menu. It was superb! The grilled octopus was the runaway favorite. Meaty on the inside and grilled to crispy perfection on the outside. All the grilled meats were delicious. I’ve been back two more times and it has been fantastic and consistent — also a paleo’s dream. The interior is small but cozy and intimate, just a really inviting atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Had lunch with a group of 6 during the week of December break. Very comfortable and not noisy. We ordered appetizers, all were great and the meals were delicious. Our waiter was extremely accommodating and gave us dessert on the house, for no special reason. Will definitely return and am so glad that I tried this wonderful place.

I did the old appetizers for dinner trick at Loukoumi on Saturday. Everything was tasty(tzatziki, zucchini chips, halloumi, octopus) and the service was extremely friendly. We had multiple people checking in on us consistently and they were very warm and welcoming. I wasn’t a big fan of the sausage(when it’s cut in smaller pieces almost bordering a crumble it can get dry) and they forgot the keftedes(which I actually didn’t mind because I was getting so full) but they were extremely apologetic and nice about it at the end of the meal.

Hands down the best Greek restaurant I’ve tried in my life. Before going to Loukoumi Taverna, I wasn’t a big fan of Greek food, but now I can’t wait to go back. The staff treats you like family and as one of the gentleman said with a smile, «We don’t fu** around with food here!» Definitely going back soon.

This is the third time we’ve been here and it was perfect again. Our waiter, Earnest was also perfect. His suggestions were spot on. He also suggested not to have a certain appetizer as it wasn’t up to standards recently and we certainly appreciated that. The atmosphere is great. The place is nice and crowded and it has a pleasant look. The portions were plentiful and quite tasty. Also very important were how the appetizers were brought out. We had three kinds and they were brought out slowly so we could enjoy them all. The only shortcoming was the coffee, it was so-so and the choice for desserts were small. But after such a large sumptuous meal that was OK. Being that my wife’s family is from Ioannina Greece and it was her birthday it was the perfect day, dinner and environment.

I honestly don’t know why we have never been here before considering we used to live in the neighborhood. Nonetheless, we took my mom and a few family members to dinner here to celebrate my mom’s birthday. The place was packed when we arrived! Once we had a seat about 20 minutes later, we realized why it was so full. The food is absolutely delicious! We ordered a carafe of their house white wine which was pretty good to start off. Then ordered the grilled haloumi and Greek salad as an app; both were good but the haloumi was delicious. It came out stacked between an assortment of grilled veggie. For our entrees we ordered the garlic shrimp, grilled lamb chops, mixed grill, bronzini, and the tomato and feta stuffed shrimp. We all loved our food. My garlic shrimp was especially delicious. We also got an assortment of their side dishes; lemon potatoes, fried potatoes, rice, and spinach. All the sides were just ok except the spinach which I loved. For dessert they brought out a Greek dessert which I am not even going to attempt typing because it will be a horrible incomprehensible mess. We can’t wait to go back!

We were looking for a quite restaurant, out of the way, with good Greek food for a large group celebrating an engagement, we found it in Loukoumi Taverna !!! The staff was attentive and kept the appetizers, octopus, squid & wine flowing. We had a party of 11 and we were all very pleased with the food in this cozy neighborhood restaurant. The mixed meat grilled plate was out of this world, it was the best I have had in a very long time ! My wife is very picky about dining because half of the time the places we dine at don’t meet the standard, but she approved Loukoumi Taverna with thumbs up !!! Next time you have time, especially if your coming from JFK hungry, for great local fare at Loukoumi Taverna in Astoria.

Pita like a pillow. Moussaka like a down comforter. If this place had a hotel in the back, I’d never leave.

My favorite Greek restaurant in New York. Period. The best Greek food you can find around. It’s a simple thing for me and my partner, we are big foodies and I go to Greece at least once or twice a year so I know what I’m talking about. The trick of finding a good Greek restaurant is trying their Greek salad first of its done right then most likely everything else will be good. We come here whenever we are in town so we already know the owner, lovely Maria and all of the staff. It helps that Maria reminds me of my mum, she welcomes her guests as if they are her family, and that just makes it even better. You should try everything, it’s great. But the things we can’t live without — that would be the cheese balls! And zucchini chips! And the best grilled octopus ever! Start with that and then just order everything else! either way this is the place you’ve got to try!

When ordering food I always try appetizers first to see if it is worth it to try their entrees… Especially at the price this restaurant charges. Let me just say THANKGOD I DID! What a huge disaster!!! I ordered 5 things at the price of $ 56.61. Huge rip off! #1) Fried Calamari: Delivery brought Calamari that had the bread crumbs come as soggy dough and it fell right off the calamari. Tells me that the calamari must have been frozen then deep fried. The moisture from being frozen would have never gotten crispy even ri ch the out of the frier. Nice to save money but at the cost of food quality… really nice move(sarcastic by the way).(Attaching pic on site) #2) Zucchini Croquettes: I don’t need to go to culinary school to know how to make crispy croquettes. Why doesn’t the head cook learn to squeeze out the extra water content in the zucchini first so that the croquettes can cook properly and after deep frying it can retain its crispiness? 101: Zucchini holds lots of moisture, duh! On top of that, they used one specific herb that blows out your pallet and it tastes disgusting. The Croquettes came deflated and water logged(attaching a pic of how disgusting it was) #3) Falafel: Only thing not totally disgusting I ordered. But I asked for extra cucumber sauce and they ignored that request completely. Maybe the staff needs hearing aids… they even got my address 4 blocks wrong which made my complete order cold. Repeating address even doesn’t help. I’ve tried that already. #4) Greek Salad: Over dressed and soggy. Where are all the way chunks of fresh cucumber and tomatoes? When did Greek salad become mostly romaine lettuce? Present salad indeed! #5) Oven Roasted Red Potatoes: Egh… Just potatoes but there is this one seasoning called«salt». They should try it sometime. BTW. I gave one star because I had to to post this

Absolutely LOVED this place. Sweetbreads, Dakos salata, Liver, Atherina, horta, assorted seafood app = soooo good. If Maria is your server you’re in for a great experience. Spiro is a wonderful host/owner as well. 100% happy with the experience!

I was here with a friend on a Saturday afternoon. It’s a nicely decorated place; lots of families; we were seated promptly. Sweet, attentive waitresses and quick bus boys. Grilled octopus was what made the meal outstanding for me. The Greek salad was decent; we also had friend smelts. I’d come back for more octopus and the whole fish.

I came on a class trip with my daughter. The servers welcome us in and handled service with a smile! The food-chicken souvlaki, Greek salad and delicious lemon potatoes-were very tasty. The lemon potatoes, the best I’ve had, were creamy although grilled. The chicken souvlaki had just the right amount of lemon and the salad was chock full of veggies. We will definitely come back as a family!

I’ve been taking my time to write this because this place is amazing. Trying to formulate words on paper to describe this restaurant is somewhat difficult. From the wait for a table, to the friendly staff, to ordering, to the ambiance, to the food, to the dessert, everything was impeccable. We arrived to Loukoumi on a whim. Both of us had bookmarked it, but were planning to head to some place else. When we passed by, we decided to check this restaurant out. Luckily, a parking spot was waiting for us, like it was meant for us. So happy we came to Loukoumi Taverna. We entered and the restaurant was full. We were greeted warmly. Waiting for a table was a delightful experience. The restaurant is nicely decorated, very rustic feel, like you were in the Mediterranean. We ordered a glass of wine while we waited. The wine was great. It was retsina, a type of wine from Greece. The staff was super friendly and hospitable. Our wait did not seem long at all. They have a back patio in addition to the main dining room, but we opted to stay inside. We were seated and were deciding what to order. Of course, we asked questions and the staff was more than willing to make recommendations. We ordered a carafe and a half of wine. Great wine. We ordered for appetizers the greek salad, octopodi, and the smelt. Omg the apps were amazing. The greek salad, one of my favs, was so fresh and delicious. The feta cheese was out of this world. So creamy and did not crumble easily. A favorite for sure. The octopus was grilled to perfection and had great flavor. It was tender and not tough at all. Now onto the pierre de resitance, the smelt. These are small fish native to the Mediterranean simply prepared, fried, and served. This was my first time ever encountering this type of fish. So we asked the wait staff how to eat them. They said they are to be eaten whole. And that is what we did. Omg amazing dish. We sprinkled lemon juice over the smelt and it was delicious. The smelt were not fishy at all and had a nice crunch to them. It was outstanding. We both enjoyed the smelt. We had just ordered apps and were told to take our time enjoy and order the entrees later. However, we were full from enjoying all our appetizers. The portions were grand. Wow just wow. Even though we were full, we could not leave without having dessert. We ordered galaktoboureko. It was a custard in filo dough. It was delicious. Not too sweet but just right. We both were in awe. The night was memorable and I have to thank Loukoumi Taverna for an amazing night. Everything was perfect. I am without a doubt returning to this family owned restaurant. Highly highly recommended.

This place easily became my favorite Greek restaurant. The staff and management is very pleasant and welcoming. The warm and inviting atmosphere won me over. My friend and I had our waitress order for us! Best decision of the evening, as she brought out fried cheese with honey, stuffed peppers, grilled octopus, shrimp, pork, lemon potatoes, rice yogurt with pomegranate, and a little something for the sweet tooth. Everything was fresh, flavorful and absolutely delicious. The red and white house wines are superb. Looking forward to the next surprise dinner. Thank you!
