we live in the neighborhood and i had no idea this was here. fresh, delicious, and spicy(when you want it to be). pineapple fried rice was a hit and the pad kra prao chicken was awesome(and wonderfully spicy). it was our first meal here and it was great. will have to go back and try other things!

Really good, quick, and cheap. The things on the menu that have spicy symbols were actually spicy(yesss!!) and the food was amazing. We dined in, but I think this is more of a pick up/delivery place. It would be nice if they had real plates/silverware for dine in, but I don’t think they get many people eating in. Would definitely recommend!

Great food. No frills spot but it’s clean and the food is delicious. One of the best Tom Kha soups I’ve ever had and the red curry and spice is on point. I got their regular menu portion to go and my curry was HUGE. Enough for two people to share.

Just happened upon the place and read a few reviews before coming in for eat-in lunch. Had the(Pork) Pad SIew. Very good! Tasty sauce and not too much of it. I’m not a fan of food smothered in sauces. The noodles were definitely the best part of this large portion dish. They were wide, and fresh and could be picked up without them falling apart, as I’ve unfortunately had elsewhere. I wish there was more meat in it, but otherwise it was a very satisfying dish that had me feeling full all day. Fast, friendly service in a small, neighborhood shop.

Seriously. Go there. Run don’t walk. Purchase their Pad Siew. Stuff your face with the rich, fluffy ribbon noodles. Made fresh daily. You won’t regret it. They are stupid good.

Great menu selection in Astoria and the food is pretty good. It still doesn’t hold a candle to some of the Elmhurst Thai restaurants but overall pretty decent for the neighborhood. The space is rather small with a few seats on the inside and one table outside. You order at the register and they bring out your food. There is the normal menu plus specials in picture format. The Duck Noodle Soup is one of those specials with flavorful broth that isn’t too oily at all. The noodles are cooked really well and nicely textured. The Pa Kra Pow does have the option of minced chicken which is the most authentic way to get this dish. Minced chicken allows it to have more surface area to absorb the flavors and mix well with the veggies and basil sauce. The condiments available are a fresh red chili sauce and marinated fresh green chilis in vinegar. The feel of the space does seem to call to their food truck roots with the wall décor and quick serve feel. Overall a good addition to the neighborhood.

Three. four stars. Astoria’s a swampland for everything cool and hip these days and that includes Thai food. Just a few blocks away you’ll find Arhan which has been there for a while and on Broadway there’s another three and on Steinway, another, and another, and another all within the vicinity. But that doesn’t mean they’re all completely the same. Having found its roots from a food truck, Mamu Thai does present a taste that is slightly different from its brethren around the area. But, at this point unless you’re close to the area there will other places scattered around Astoria. On the other hand, like I previously said there is a taste… that is slightly different. I had taken food out from Mamu and had ordered the typical Pad Thai(chicken), Pad Siew(beef), and the fried wontons. They all tasted good, but didn’t blow my mind away. The fried wontons were pretty yummy though. But what fried foods don’t? There may have been other items on the menu that would have been cool to try like the fried calamari(how often do you see that on a Thai menu) or some of the other specialty noodle dishes. If anything, I’d definitely be willing to take the walk in the future to try out the specialty noodles and update my review. The interior by the way was fairly small and had a rustic homely feel. It’s as if a food truck was super-sized and then décor’d to have a warm islanderly feel inside. It’d be a cute small spot for a date even… not the first but maybe later down the the way when the two are comfy and just want some home cooked Thai food.

Review for take out only. Generous portions and good packaging since food is kept warm even after a 30 min travel time. We ordered the pad Thai and pad siew noodles. Both very good but I have to agree the pad siew was the better ones I’ve tasted. The noodles are not clumped up together meaning they didn’t overcook it. Prices are very decent — about $ 2 – 3 less than New York. I’ll remember to come back for more take out when in the area again.

I hoped this sole Thai place was an oasis among this patch of Long Island City land of chain restaurants and mediocre brunch places. In the evening, it did look like one from a street away as the only open business in its vicinity. Its warm light invited my friend and I in. Its sporadic good impressions included its open kitchen layout next to plastic tables and its full-wall colorful yet overblown pixelated collage. The trend continued to its food. We ordered 4 dishes; grilled pork, beef salad, chicken massaman curry, and beef noodle soup. They all were served in good tablewares, surprisingly divergent from the its food truck origin, but also somewhat bland. Essentially, they lacked herbs and spices. Given its location(and friendly service), I could almost forgive its American palates. If you are in the area and want something better than Subway, Applebee’s, or eggs benedict in an hour before a movie showtime, you can come here and probably order some noodle stir-fries.

Let me start by saying that Thai is not my favorite cuisine. I have nothing against Thai but if I am given a choice, I probably wouldn’t pick it. That might have changed. I went in after watching the restaurant being built and getting some recommendations from people I trust, one being my wife, to try it. The owners are very friendly and the décor is cool. I ordered the Tom Kha soup and Shrimp Pad Thai. Both were AWESOME! The Tom Kha was smooth, lemony, and delicious! The pad Thai was flavorful and fantastic. We bought lunch for our employees and everyone loved it. We will be back again soon!

Good tasty Thai food. The only problem is the location; we never travel to this part of Astoria so that was a hassle. Would come back if there was a groupon. We live in College Point and while there are good Chinese food restaurants and sushi places there isn’t a good Thai place. So we decided to check it out. We got the pad thai because we’re obsessed with peanut sauce, the pad siew with Chinese broccoli and the pineapple thai fried rice. We ordered all dishes with chicken. Overall the food was good and tasty. Our stomach didn’t hurt afterwards which means the food was fresh. The amount was not too much; all that food was enough for two people. The service was good too. There was a younger woman, a older woman and a male with a baby and they were very friendly. It seemed to be a family owned restaurant which is nice.

As someone who has spent a lot of time in the food industry, you know a good spot when you walk in. This place is no-frills, top notch thai food. I may go as far and say it’s the best thai food in the 5 boroughs. There is no need to wait and spend a fortune at pok-pok when you can eat even better for half the price. Even long after your last bite you’ll crave this spot. Best part is the staff is super friendly and cordial.

Stopped by here today after visiting Frank Sinatra High School. The décor and demeanor of the staff compensated the small space. It was empty and since there were 6 of us, we used up their only 2 tables. My daughter and I ordered fried calamari, sticky rice with mango, duck soup and thai iced tea. My sister and her kids ordered fresh summer roll, pad thai, wonton soup and roast pork with gravy. Their food was absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. The thai iced tea was on point. We will definitely come back and try their other dishes. I am a fan! FYI: While waiting for our food, my small child had to use the bathroom. Unfortunately, Mamu doesn’t have one(not for customer’s use). So my niece ended up taking her to Frank Sinatra High School and then come back to Mamu to eat their food.

Was a bit disappointed. Had the curry noodles. Flavor was great, noodles were poorly cooked and chicken was dry. Also had fried wontons, not amazing. Thai iced coffee was good. Maybe the particular dishes i ordered are not the best.

A hidden gem in the middle of nowhere, Mamu Thai surely did not disappoint. I was not too excited to have dinner in the area but my best friend works for the Mercedes Benz dealership and I did not feel like eating in the city. I was concerned but the area looks deserted and we’d have to walk several blocks to get to Steinway where there are more restaurants. I trusted the reviews of Unilocalers and decided to give Mamu Thai a shot. I was glad and it is one of my favorites. We had Fried Calamari, Papaya Salad, and Tom Yum soup to start. Honestly, I can do without the calamari and papaya salad. The breading on the calamari was falling apart. It was forgettable, like most fried calamaris, I guess. I was not expecting much. The papaya salad was a bit too fishy for me but Mamu Thai took their spices seriously because although I asked for medium spicy, there was a nice kick to it. The condiments put a smile on my face! Pickled jalapenos and red chili sauce! Now on to the entrees… I went for my regular dish — Pad Kee Mao. EXCELLENT. Tasty and delicious. Didn’t need to add sauce because it was already flavorful. My best friend had the green curry, as recommended by the waitress. It was delicious. It tasted a bit different at first but after a few seconds, I was like WOW. I wish we weren’t too full so we could have tried their desserts. Definitely next time! Mamu Thai, keep up the good work! I look forward to trying your other dishes.

Mamu Thai, I’ve never seen their food truck before but it seems they’ve been successful enough to open their own restaurant. It now occupies a space that was once a café and I think it’s all for the better. Mamu Thai is on a street with little foot traffic but it is still close to Studio Square and the Movie Theater which is a block or two away. Mamu Thai is a pretty small space with two tables in the center of the dining room and bar seating along the outer perimeter. There’s nothing fancy about this place but clearly caters more towards the take out crowd. The prices are fair and the portion sizes are ok but the food was incredibly good. The green curry was incredibly flavorful and they certainly didn’t hold back on the heat. The only downside of my dish was the noodles, they were clumped together and would have probably benefited from a quick wash, the noodles also were softer than I would have preferred. Regardless the meal was still good and I’ll be back to try more of their items.

I love Thai and am so happy there is a delicious, new location right by my apartment! Every morning, I would see the Mamu Thai food truck driving by me as I walk to the train station. I always mean to google it and find out their locations, but end up forgetting. One day, I noticed they opened a brick and mortar location! I could not be more excited, especially since the location was so convenient to me. There are quite a few Thai places in my area, but this is by far — the best! You order at the counter and you can sit anywhere you like. There is only one table outside with a bench like table next to it as well. Inside, there are only 2 tables and some bar seating along the wall and windows. The 2 tables inside were taken, so we sat by the window after we ordered. Everything came out at almost the same time. I was back and forth between my salad and noodles. The Som Tum Salad was the best I have had and reminded me a lot of the one that my brother in law buys from back home in Lynn, Ma. I asked them to make it extra spicy and you can see the slices of chili in it. The salad was flavorful and the ingredients were fresh. Pad Kee Mow is my absolute favorite! I noticed not a lot of places have it, so when I try to substitute and get the Pad See Ew and ask them to make it spicy — it never works out. I had it with beef, cooked perfectly. Not too spicy, but still had a little kick. I love how they chop up the peppers into tiny bits because I hate it when it’s large chunks. Tried my cousin’s Spring Rolls. You get 4 in an order, they are pretty good sizes. Usually, I hate veggie spring rolls but I love how theirs has glass noodles in it and the cabbage isn’t too overwhelming. Her shrimp pad thai was also delicious. We’ve had others in the area before, and they are not good at all. If you want hot sauce, they also have little packets of Sriracha :). They also deliver through Grub Hub and Seamless! And the employees/owners are awesome. Super friendly and helpful! Prices are great for the portions that you get. I love that they serve the food in takeout containers, because when you eat in and can’t finish your meal. you can pop on a lid and take it to go!

Mamu Thai Noodle first launched as an NYC food truck in 2013, and I got hooked pretty quickly on their authentic Thai noodles(the pad siew is incredible!) and delicious Thai iced tea. While the food truck still covers lunchtime at different locations across Manhattan(they share daily locations on Facebook), they’ve also just opened a cheerful little restaurant/take-out spot in Astoria(36th and 36th!). This isn’t another greasy Asian take-out spot(thank goodness) – every dish is freshly prepared, carefully seasoned and super-delicious. I spent four years living in Asia and rarely find restaurants that can match the authentic experience, but this one can.(Do NOT miss their hand-rolled and –stuffed spring rolls. Heaven.) The friendly young owner, Siwat, honed his recipes while working at his uncle’s street noodle spot in Bangkok, and you can tell – I’ve been frequenting the food truck for a year and never once had a bad dish.(The lines that sometimes build up at the truck on busy days tell me that others are getting in on the secret as well.) I’m pretty psyched to now have a take-out option – I just ordered a bunch of different dishes for a dinner with friends, and they loved it.(No leftovers! Gah.) Definitely check it out.

Normally I am not a fan of Thai food and this just for the food would probably only get 4 stars from me BUT location location location. In the immediate vicinity of this restaurant, there’s only fast foods like applebees, subways, panera bread and starbucks which was what i lived off of for lunch everyday. with the exception of that extra block to arepas café for amazing food, but now MAMUTHAI opened right here and its perfect. FINALLY, decent lunch. Drunken Noodles(Pad Kee Mow) with chicken $ 9.50 One order of spring rolls $ 4.50 Thai Iced Tea $ 3.00 Over all, I have to say the food is a little bit on the pricey side but then again its good hot food in the rareness that is this area. The drunken noodles have a light spicy kick which pairs amazingly with the thai iced tea. And the spring rolls are crisp and fresh. Although, i could use extra filling in my spring rolls(@TINATRAN spoils me with homemade ones) but these have really fresh ingredients. And that sauce that goes with the spring rolls. HOLYMOLY i love it!!! Find me here for lunch! Updating… just tried the thai iced coffee $ 3.00 its really strong and good, but a little too very sweet for my taste. Chicken Pad Kra Prao, $ 9.50DOIT! it’s amazingly strong flavors still linger in my mouth, a good rice option. Fried Wontons are $ 5.50 and is by far the best fried wontons ever! Must order the fried wontons, the shell is so crispy and thin and the meaty flavors is filling, definitely tasting it all and not just dough like those other spots.
