I’ve been here several times for lunch, dinner and brunch. Always enjoyed the food. All the schnitzels are very good… and my favorite sides are the mashed potatoes and cucumber salad, but the others are good too. I also liked the currywurst. Good beer selection and nice atmosphere, especially in warm weather when it’s open to the outside with outdoor seating.

With ½ German lineage I have been exploring some restaurants lately. 3 in the past 2 months. There is a big difference I tastes for the same things! Not in a bad way, just different. We had a great casual Sunday lunch here. Homemade Pork bratwurst was outstanding. German potato salad had a yellow(mustard?) tint and was not like grandmas. Still good although grandmas was better. Lots of sides, good prices. Small and cozy place. Great service and nice ppl. Red cabbage wasn’t anything special. I like more vinegar taste. Definitely will come back for the brats and sausage. Didn’t try the schnitzel or spätzle this time

This place is such a hidden gem! I found it on Unilocal over the summer and can’t believe I haven’t given it a review yet! Great price, amazing food with large portions and DASBOOT! Oh, and you MUST try the pretzel bun with your bratwurst. The Mac & Cheese and cucumber salad are my go to sides. I definitely recommend checking this place out and be ready to eat!

It’s truly amazing that you can find authentic German in a little corner of Astoria. Service is friendly and 90% of the wait-staff is German, but it’s the comfort food here that’s the main draw. Food here is simply delicious and the portions are huge. My personal favorites are the Farmer’s Spicy Bratwurst and the Schnitzel. If you have a big appetite, go with the Schnitzel. It’s served hot and crispy — your choice of pork(my preference), chicken, or veal. It includes two sides — normally I go with the Berlin-style potato salad and the fries but their cucumber salad and sauerkraut are very tasty as well. It’s always a hard choice. As for the sausage, I lean towards the Farmers Bratwurst because it’s a bit spicy. All sausages are served on regular or pretzel buns. There’s ample toppings as well — typically I go for the hot peppers and sauerkraut — but everything is good. What’s more, they bring three types of German mustard to the table: spicy, sweet, and extra spicy. About the beer: It’s all German. They have six drafts with Weihenstephaner(German Wheat) and Spaten Octoberfest(German Dark) as the all stars. What’s great about this place in the summer is having a beer at one of the outside tables. It’s perfect for spending a lazy Saturday afternoon. So yeah, in general, very good place. Love it.

This is a great new place. Me and my man have been feeling a little bored from our usual eating places in Astoria so we were very excited when we found out about this place. The only thing that sucks is that they don’t deliver to us because we are a little to far from them so we have to drive out to get our food. But it’s worth it. We’ve had several things from there by now and most of them are delicious. If you are sitting in get the apple saltzer to drink. It’s super refreshing and delicious. As far as the food we’ve tried different things, deo finitely fan of the combos, my favorite wursts are the pork and turkey. DEFINITELYGETTHEFRIES the best fries in the world! And the sauerkraut is smashing so I would suggest that for the 2 sides they give you for free. We’ve tried the soups but haven’t been really feeling them. Everything else is great tho.

I love this place. I keep finding myself coming back. The staff is lovely, and you can tell they love working here. I’ve tried nearly everything on the menu multiple times and I can tell you, they know why they’re doing. Highlights: Wurst Plate: 2 sausages of your choosing(and they have a huge selection! I prefer the Farmer’s and the Veal) and any two sides. Get it currywurst style at no extra charge! Schnitzel: your choice of meat(chicken, pork, or veal) crusted and pan-fried with any two sides. Burgers: You guys. The burgers. First of all, they’re cheap. Second of all, they’re HUGE. Third of all, they’re DELICIOUS. WHATABOUTTHEDEALS: Every weeknight is a different deal. My favorite is the burger deal on Tuesdays: 25% off all burgers and $ 2 .2L Gaffel Kolsch drafts. There are plenty of other fantastic menu items, but seriously, I’m hungry now and I’ve gotta run. TLDR: Authentic food, fantastic service, and great music. Go here, you will always win. PS: 6 authentic German beers on tap and an even more impressive bottle list. You just can’t go wrong!

This is the real thing — the menu could be right out of Germany, only with even more variety. Not only that but the sausages are of awesome quality. Same with the beer selection — more than you’d find in the average German bar, but the draft options are perfectly served. Kartoffelpuffen(potato pancakes) were a disappointing start to the meal, too oily and gray on the inside. But the meal quickly improved with the main dishes — excellent, coarse bauernwurst and generous servings of knockwurst and veal sausage, along with a not-too-sweet red cabbage and good fries. Hot and sweet mustard join ketchup on the table. Schoki-Torte for dessert was just rich enough and came with superb vanilla ice cream. This would have been five stars if not for the appetizer, which was disappointing. Everything else was superb. Stick to the sausages and traditional sides — and, of course, the draft beer.

Solid experience overall. Great food, kind and fast service from the wait staff and owner, good prices and fun atmosphere! I stumbled on this place over a year ago(by Unilocaling!), when I didn’t want to wait 3 hours to be seated at another German restaurant in deeper Queens. Intrigued, a group of 6 of us made our way over for dinner. While it’s a bit of a trek from the heart of Astoria, it’s worth the walk. Our meals were delicious! Especially the pretzels and mustards, chicken schnitzel, German Mac and Cheese, and red cabbage. You’ll be good to go with any schnitzel or wurst combo, trust me. My husband was daring and got«Das Boot» — a GIANT glass footwear piece of beer. Do it if you dare. My husband’s family is German, so for what that’s worth — as a second generation German — he approved of the food and drink. Since then, I’ve rotated numerous amounts of friends through this place for every event imaginable. The latest outings have included Max’s annual Beer Mug Holding Contest and my husband’s 30th Birthday party in their downstairs private party room. I can’t wait to go back.

This place has quite a nice variety of sausages. I got the jalapeño pepper sausage & the beer and cheese sausage. I couldn’t really taste the kick of the jalapeño or the beer and cheese in the other one, but nonetheless, they were pretty good. I also had the mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. Mashed potatoes were delicious. Sauerkraut was quite acidic sour so I didn’t make much of a dent in it. My friend’s spicy farmer’s sausage was probably my favorite. The beef smoked sausage was okay, nothing too exciting. Overall, it’s a nice atmosphere and it wasn’t too crowded on a Friday night. Service was good and friendly as well. It’s a small place with both indoors and outdoors seating. Parking is rough though, but hey, it’s Astoria after all.

Came in so tired and hungry I asked if they could make it to go… They said yes I was happy. I drank 2 beers of the same(a small lager) they felt really good and tasted great definitely fresh and not stale beer… The burger. I ordered it well done the cook took his time and cooked everything to perfection, I was surprised to see the fries I ordered in a separate paper bag. They were perfectly fresh and crispy, I’m going to say the best fries I’ve had In a while. The service was A+ I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to be treated well 5 stars bravo Btw the sausages on the burger were the best part Thanks for including mustard and ketchup !!!

We stopped here to use our beer book and got sausages on pretzel buns. I got the beer and cheese and Eric got some sort of hot sausage. Both topped with caramelized onions and sauerkraut. Everything was really good but the pretzel buns were really excellent. I have become a bit of a pretzel bun/roll connoisseur and this was one of the best I’ve had. The beer selection was great and the wait staff was really nice. It was also Halloween and kids were coming in to trick or treat so that was really cute to watch.

On another beer tour with our beer books, we stopped here on labor day. We loved that they had outdoor seating. What more could anybody want? Beer and outdoor seating! Woohoo!!! They had an interesting beer and food menu. We ordered a large pretzel to split. It came with raw onions and a dippig sauce that was decent except it had pieces of butter in it. Considering that I’m not a huge butter fan, I avoided the dipping sauce. It was like biting into cold, hard pieces of butter. Eeek, no thanks. The beer was decent but not great and the service was good. We might be back to try some other beers and apps if we were in the area.

It’s an interesting mix this place is. Part German brat house and beer hall — yet pint sized — and part sports soccer bar — but without the bar. It’s a lot for such a small place to pull off, so I can see where some of the negative reviews come from. But I’ve gone for brunch and regular lunch on several occasions and have always left satisfied – especially by going earlier on and having my pick of the outdoor seating. And, yes, I’ve even hung out here in the evening for just its beer selection and fun with friends. So it offers a lot for such a small place and I feel like it’s better to just visit this place instead of ordering delivery from them. It’s more of a cute destination instead of a I’m-tired-from-work, order online type of place. I love the beer and cheese brat with red cabbage served on a pretzel bun.

Once upon a time before millennials when only baby boomers roamed the earth there was a s***load of Deutsche restaurants in Astoria. In fact there was even a Schaller & Webber retail deli located on Steinway between 28th and 30th Avenues. There was even a flourishing German community now reduced to stalwart remnants of a bygone era. C’est la vie… A restaurateur extraordinaire filled the vacuum with Max Bratwurst und Bier(WBB). MBB is now one of my favorite restaurants in Astoria because of their fantastic German style fare. I’m very partial to the red cabbage and jalapenos infused sausages cooked to perfection. On my must try list is the rattlesnake sausage for no particular good reason other than why not? I’ve eaten snake before and the texture and taste was similar to the bad rubberish chicken typically served at low-brow fundraisers and political events. But if the snake meat is reduced to a sausage I may have a different perspective. They serve other exotic meat sausages as well. Since I don’t typically drink bier – despite looking as though I do – I can’t speak to the numerous brewed offerings. Each time I swing by MBB I’m the«odd man out» nurturing my adequate wine. But judging from everyone else enjoying themselves in front of enormous bier mugs the bier is pretty damn good. Did I mention that the staff is both pleasant and overwhelmed? I’m very happy for this because it will ensure that MBB will be around for a while. The only downside is that the parking situation sucks.

A friend and I stopped by for dinner the other night, and everything was delicious! We each started out with the brew of our choice, and then shared orders of the hot wings, potato salad, and red cabbage. The wings, while not particularly spicy, were both cooked and seasoned to perfection, and the potato salad and red cabbage were well-prepared and tasty. I definitely plan to return!

German grub served by actual Germans? With the décor to match? Count me in! Bratwurst in a pretzel bun, currywurst, or schnitzel, you can’t really go wrong with any of the German standards they serve here. That includes sides like sauerkraut, purple cabbage, and spaetzel. Add in a .5 liter of beer including seasonals(I just had a bananenweizen), and you’ll be full for a few hours. Swap out the .5 liter for Das Boot and you’ll probably be full all night. Service is also always on point, I’ve never had a single problem with any of the waitresses there, they’ve never forgotten part of an order, and the food comes out in decent time.

I’ve missed the port of Warnemunde, Germany, ever since ending my days of working on cruise ships. My fondest memories were of the authentic, handmade brats/currywurst, divine accoutrement, and delicious quaintness of the humble cuisine. I can’t comment on whether MBB nails the ambiance, but I can report that my first bite took me back to the pavilion where we sat, ate, drank, and were merry. Even during inclement weather, the delivery happened within a reasonable time. The delivery gent wasn’t able to figure out how to get into my building… but I didn’t even care once I dove in to my treasures. The Beer & Cheese brat seemed a bit steep in price until I saw how enormous the brat and heart bun were! Toppings piled very generously. Hearty portion of sides, especially the spaetzle and cheese(+$ 2 for a serving large enough for a second meal!). The Veal Schnitzel was very good. Two large fillets. Good mushroom sauce(+$ 3), really tasty mashed potatoes, and enough for two small meals, or one belly buster. Fair pricing for the quality, and I will at least give them repeat delivery business, if not also bring friends to dine in!

Finally got around to trying this place out and I am glad we did. I knew it was going to be good from the moment I heard the staff all speaking German. They were very friendly and always had a smile. It took me a few minutes to sift through the menu because everything sounded good. I ended up getting the wurst plate which comes with your choice of two sausages and two sides for $ 15. My choices were the veal bratwurst, jalapeño pepper sausage, home fries and German mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was an extra $ 2, but it is totally worth it. Every bight of my meal was mouth watering and between the three of us at the table every other comment was«this is so good». The portion size was large as well. We all ended up taking some home and it heated up the next day just as good as the night before. I also ordered a liter of the dunkel. I don’t think my brain realized how big a liter actually is. This was a gigantic beer in an equally gigantic mug for only $ 12.50. They do have the Das Boot as well if you think the liter isn’t enough to change the course in which your night is headed.

After making my wife exceptionally jealous with my work lunch at the Schnitzel Truck, she set out to make things right. The only problem is that Astoria may be known for it’s wealth of food, but German is sadly missing. Sure you have the beer gardens, but eh. A quick Unilocal search revealed that there is actually an authentic German restaurant in Astoria, but from our apartment it’s a hike! Tucked far away from the main 30th St-Steinway barrage of restaurants, Max Bratwurst is a hidden gem on 47th St. Arriving on a Saturday evening, we were able to get seated right away. There were others there, but not crowded by any means. The place really feels like you’re in Germany, down to the menu even feeling like you’re reading the English version of a menu at a place in Germany. I had absolutely no idea what any of the beer selection was(all German!), but the waitress(also German…) helped me pick a great one. The Weihenstephaner Weisse was deliciously refreshing. The food was phenomenal. I went with the curry bratwurst, pommes frites, and cucumber salad. While the curry as really tasty, I’m not sure it was my favorite ever, but damn it, it was good. Two thick slices of bread for dipping rounded out my meal. My wife ordered the chicken schnitzel with mushroom sauce. It was *massive*. I’m used to really flat schnitzel, so this was unexpectedly thick. Regardless, it was perfectly cooked and flavor packed. I’m so glad we found this place! Even though it’s a hefty walk from the closest train, it’s well worth it. Next time we’re craving German, this will be our go to.
