I was going to say that McLoughlin’s is my favorite«old man» bar in Astoria, but that is a bit of a misnomer. With the mixed crowds it usually gets, the occasional live band and Karaōke on Friday nights it is not really an «old man» bar, although it is probably more appealing to 30 and 40 years olds than millennials, which is not a bad thing. It’s a great«no frills» neighborhood bar which is probably the best way to describe it. Plus, they always have free Corned Beef and Cabbage on St. Pats. ;)

Handsome bartender Good priced drinks Pool table and dart board. Outdoor smoking/drinking space is quite nice. Can fit all of your friends. Jukebox available for music. It’s been around for almost 50 years, so chances are it will outlast all the other bars in the area.

Perfect spot to end the night — here’s why: DRINKS: Beer is cheap and poured quickly. The bartender almost seemed like he didn’t like us, as he scowled as he served me two beers… However, cold and crisp beer in a can is perfect to me! AMBIANCE: It was a little bit of an older crowd, for sure, maybe people in their 30s and 40s. Then there were the typical barflies, old guys just hitting on us and being very friendly. MUSIC: THISMADEMYNIGHT!!! I didn’t catch the name of the band, but I did get a business card :) They covered the best music of the 70s through 90s, and it was so fun! Great singing and musicians overall. Because the only highlight was the band, I can’t really say the bar itself was amazing.

Seriously an hidden gem. I’ve been passing this bar for 10+ years. So, on a random Saturday night I met a bunch of friends here. First off you would never think that this place is big on the inside. The bar is right there as soon as you walk in. There is a pool table would a generous amount of space to play. The darts area is separated by a pillar. If you walk even more towards the back there is an outside patio area. I really am impressed with this bar. :BATHROOMALERT: I didn’t think the bathrooms were going to be much to speak about but they are. There are two stalls and a mini sink. If people needed to wait to pee a total of 5 people could fit if there is one person in each of the stalls. The bathroom was clean, toliet paper stocked well, sink was clean and the soap was well stocked. No complaints there. The drink prices were really cheap. The bartender was actually really sweet. I felt bad for him because some drunk guy kept throwing coats around and he had to leave the bar for 15mins to get the man out. So, the four out of 5 stars is because there should have been someone else working. I am sure this will be the only time I see this at this spot and review it again when I got a second time. For you music lovers there is a jukebox.

Safe neighborhood Bar. Had a nice time with the wife here last Saturday night. Tommy the Bartender, nice guy with friendly service with a smile. Old time Irish. This is a no frills Bar’s. Long Bar with plenty of seating, pool table and decent drink pricing; $ 6 Jameson’s. Not much to say about this place, but I felt comfortable, safe and enjoyed my hour or so here. This is the kind of place to just chill with the wife.

I have a hard time finding bars that aren’t too noisy, or full of wankers. Just a nice place to get a drink and hang out alone or with friends. This is the place. Plus, karaōke on Friday and Saturday nights!

After finishing a bottle of red the bartender gave us free shots. Seemed like a good deal. Karaōke on Friday nights. Awesome!

I’ve tried to give McLoughlin a chance. But every time I come here, the beer is a little skunky. Nothing very exceptional about the place, except they have free karaōke late Friday. Eh, seems much better off going down the block to Gilbey’s.

not too pretentious, drinks that aren’t too expensive, friendly bar tender(who looks like my dad). the place isn’t too ‘fancy’ inside, but it didn’t need to be. sort of like being back in 1945, and i wish my grandpa could have been there drinking with me. only thing, keep in mind that there’s no atm in there so come prepared.

I like this bar because I think it’s about the closest thing to a Jimmy McNulty Baltimore bar in «The Wire.» It’s not real pretty, but it’s got a long bar at which you can always find a seat on a weekday night or weekend afternoon, sit with a few regulars and find the hockey or baseball game you’re looking for. No one will really bother you if you don’t want to be bothered, and if you want you can bother someone else. Barkeep does his job well and will throw in buybacks if you sit around for a while sucking down beers or jack&cokes during a ball game. No, it’s not fancy but this is a workingmans bar, utilitarian and real.

Stopped in here to rest our legs during a long walk through Long Island City & Astoria. The place is your run-of-the-mill Irish pub, but the drinks are fairly priced, they pour a good Guinness, the Bud bottles are ice cold, the bartender was nice, and there was free food(??). We dropped in on a Sunday and there were a few too many loud American football fans — otherwise it was a good pit stop.
