My burrito was ice cold. Seriously. The carnitas was luke warm and the lettuce, tomatoes, queso fresco were friggin’ freezing(like de-thawed out of freezer cold). Give me a break. Adiós Mi Espiguita Taqueria, you suck-o.

This is probably the best little Mexican joint i have ever been to. It may not look so great from afar, but after stepping in you will know you’ve hit the ballpark. There are plenty of options, raging from single items to combination platters. I had the enchilada combo and my friend ordered the burrito, and let me tell you something, these platters were gigantic — absolutely ginormous. The food had so much flavor and they were generous with the amount of chicken in our servings. And the best part of this all, was that it was absolutely cheap! Honestly, this food is well worth your money. If you are in Astoria, are short for cash, and in the mood for Mexican food, DEFINITELY stop by at this location. I promise you won’t regret it!

Four star review. Probably a gem that most Astorians miss. Even though the small hole-in-the-wall is pretty close to the Broadway train stop, it isn’t. Although there a handful of Mexican/taco options around the area, this truly is probably my favorite spot for tacos. I’ve had everything from the Bistec, Chorizo, Pollo, Carnitas and my all-time favorite from there… Al Pastor. I just love the juicy pork surrounded by the spices where it just explodes full of flavor in your mouth along with the onions and insane amounts of cilantro. I do wish they did put avocado in it though. The interior is a tiny joint. Maybe two tables and a counter top. It’s not really the best place if you want to have a full-on sit down lunch or dinner. But if you’re looking for a quick bite or if you live around the area and want to take home some tacos, I’d recommend Mi Espiguita Taquiera over the other places around the area. The prices are cheaper as well. I would love to try the other items on the menu, but I really need to pull myself away from the Al Pastor taco…

Gigantic burritos and full of flavor. I have only tried the burritos but they are great; plenty of meat, perfect amount of rice, beans, and Mexican cheese. Ask for guacamole and sour cream to compliment the crunch from the fresh lettuce

Awesome cheap burritos. Really unfriendly atmosphere adds a unique vibe. 3 giant burritos 21 dollars flat came with guac and salsas. Good deal. Either didn’t take card or had a high minimum.

The food is great and the value is even better. Problem is just getting through the huge servings. Make sure to get the green salsa. I don’t speak Spanish but the staff always make me feel welcome.

Stopped by this place for the intent of a «bite» on the way down to Philadelphia. We somehow managed to rack up quite a spread. While I prefer the trucks by the 7 in Jackson Heights, this is a comfortable place to eat and pretty authentic. The tacos here were my favorite, while they’re on the pricier side. you are sitting in an actual establishment and these tacos are big. Great place to stop if you’re in the area and like me, looking for a «bite».

Just ordered about an hour ago. A friend told me to try the huarache. So I did. With carnitas. So fricken delicious. I can’t say enough good things about it. I’m pretty sure the thick corn tortilla was made fresh. The carnitas were so darn delicious and the carnitas were just perfect. They give you red and green salsas and I ordered guacamole as well. Everything was too good. Like, too, too good. I’m ordering from here forever.(Only bad note, they say they are on grubhub… not the case.)

What an amazing find in Astoria! Very low-key restaurant(small with only a few tables), with good, fast service and fantastic Mexican food. We tried the $ 7 huarache al pastor(spicy pork with beans, lettuce, and cheese on a ginormous corn tortilla). This was so huge it actually was served on two plates to hold it all in! The $ 7 burrito was also the size of a human head and was fantastic — jam packed with meat, beans, rice, sour cream, lettuce and tomato. Tacos were $ 2.75 each and were topped with cilantro and served with lime. Try the guacamole and chips on the side — the guacamole was very unusual(more puréed than is typival) but tasty.

A California native, this place is like a home away from home. The best Mexican food I have had in Astoria. I’ve tried a few things on the menu,(tacos, chilaquiles, torta) but my go to order is the steak burrito, it is the best thing on the menu. Their green sauce is amazing and I slather my burrito in it! Seriously, do it. Go to this place. You will not be bummed.

The tortas here are always amazing. I’ve tried many torta places but this is still my favorite and I always come back here for the freshly made food.

Love the bistek tacos, have them at least once a month with my coworker. A good amount of steak is inserted to the taco for a reasonable price. Love coming here

Growing up in CA has made it difficult to find quality Mexican food in New York. But La Espiguita is one the most authentic taquerias I’ve found. I’ve tried both burritos and tacos and I definitely recommend sticking to tacos. The burritos are a good size but are always a bit dry for my liking. The tacos are also a good portion and are better quality. There carne asada is the best meat they do. It’s not the cheap stuff and it has great flavor. I’ve also tried the al pastor and its a bit too dry. Great spot if you a steak taco fan.

3.5 stars An authentic Mexican restaurant serving generous portions. We ordered a burrito and a torta to go. I can’t recall which meat we ordered since I went almost a year ago. This place had great reviews so I had to take L since we both enjoy Mexican food. The burrito was okay, nothing special. Maybe a bit disappointing. Definitely not good enough for me to return. It’s missing something. I think Los Tacos from Chelsea Market ruined Mexican food for me since they’re so ridiculously delicious. Nothing comes close to their tacos. I guess the burrito here was just a bit bland in comparison to what I’ve had before. I’ve ordered burritos from lots of authentic Mexican restaurants and none have really impressed me. This place may be authentic but it’s just okay in my book. I think Home Made Taqueria is much better.

Fantastic fresh Mexican food that is very authentic. The burritos are hugeee and filled with great ingredients. They also are not very expensive. The menu has many traditional Mexican items. Its definitely a great place to get an inexpensive good dinner.

Holy moly, I walked by here last week and it looked like an honest to God hole-in-the-wall taqueria. Now, for those of you unfamiliar with what that is, it’s basically like a dive bar but for tacos, burritos or tortas. No fusion, no high falutin ‘infusions’ or crème fraîche. Just thin tortillas, stuffed with well seasoned meats and some veggies. The bonus of this place is that it’s good-probably the best Mexican I’ve had in New York. The guacamole is good and plentiful, coming in a big tub and big plate of fresh made chips coming in under 10 bucks-which is probably some of the best value guac wise compared to other places. One avocado mixed in with small pinch of cilantro in an impressive but shallow stone bowl doesn’t make for good guac. The tortas also come packed and it’s hard to hold onto it without it crumbling under its own weight. The chorizo was well done and you could taste the flavor as the big chunk of avocado mixed in with the other veggies. The milanesa was flattened out and crispy which was practically spilled out over the edges of the soft, tasty torta bread, The burrito which-can easily be split by two very hungry people-or 4 small children is under 7 bucks and with a Jarritos it’s a feast for under 10 bucks. Cash only

An authentic Mexican place in Astoria with cheap eats and pretty good food. My only problem is that guacamole looked like it’s blended. One big bowl for $ 5 isn’t really that bad. Only if it’s good. Their 3 taco combo with rice and beans for $ 6 is a freakin steal. Place isn’t one of those sit down Mexican places on date night but they do have a few tables. Will always keep them in mind if ever I’m in the area again.

After such a great experience at Los Tacos at the Chelsea market, we decided to get tacos in Queens. Sadly, the experience was not as rewarding. Still delicious and probably better than any average taco stand but the visit at Chelsea market spoiled me. The pork lengua, beef and chicken tacos were all delicious. A bit of lime, cilantro and onions. I can imagine this being an amazing late night snack. The guac was smooth and blended. I would have preferred chunky and fresh. For the price of $ 5.50, it was a bit steep.

I’ve had takeout and/or delivery from this spot 3 or 4 times now, and everything I’ve had has been absolutely spectacular. By far the best mexican food I’ve found in Astoria — much tastier and much more for your money than some of the fancier bars and sit-down places, and significantly higher quality than other small-scale delivery and takeout spots.(I’ve not yet eaten in the restaurant, but it’s always packed, which is obviously a good sign.) This is clearly one of those hole-in-the-wall sorts of spots where you can get authentic food prepared well(don’t miss the green salsa). Ingredients seem incredibly fresh as well — you can see huge cauldrons of meat being prepared in the back — and yet somehow this is one of the cheapest spots in the neighborhood. Even the mcdonald’s across the street can’t compete for the amount of food you’ll get for the price. I’m eager to come back to this place again to try their breakfast menu(come before 11AM) as an alternative to a pricey brunch. Also, the menu boasts weekend specials of barbecued goat and deep fried pork which I cannot wait to check out. (One warning — I’m not a huge sour cream fan, and my order came slathered in it one time. My fault for not asking, but just keep it in mind as something to ask about if you’re ordering.)
