Nice pizza spot especially at night the bar is very clean, and neat… the bathrooms are always sanitized and clean, even the air is clean. The bar is open till the joint close but! the kitchen shuts at midnight… nice spot for drinks and the train and bus is only two blocks away so u don’t have to drive after drinking. I give this spot 5 stars plus one for exelence.

I had high hopes for this place due to the reviews but I have two complaints that need to be addressed: 1. The bartender made a horrible drink after I asked for another one she refused to and didn’t fill the cup how other bartenders use, & she didn’t even ask what kind of whiskey I wanted. 2. The Dj was the worst part of the hour I was there !!! He would play the whole song, for that I would rather listen to my iPhone playlist, anyway, he played the whole song and that was annoying which made other people use their phones and have conversations instead of dancing and mingling with others.

I saw a comedy show here the other night. it was excellent. as was the pizza. as was a drink I kept ordering called the B.D.White. if you like old fashioneds, get this. service from everyone was excellent too. like super nice and prompt let me tip you well because you deserve it type excellent. I also like the set up of this place: a large area around the bar for mingling and whatnot and a separate area for the eating of the awesome pizza and enjoying the comedy show — not that the show wasn’t viewable from the bar area. and if you want to see the big game, its most likely playing on one of the tv screens. I would definitely come here again if I was in the area.

Have been here a few times, it is a bit of a walk for us but it is usually worth the effort. The only thing it is missing some good olé bar food, maybe add some fries or nachos to the menu for late night munching when you just don’t want another pizza. The music is great.

I’ve had a few fun nights here, but I cant say I’m a fan of how the security set-up and the valet parking make it seem like the place is more«happening» than it really is. DJ plays hip hop and pop-techno.

Went here for a friends birthday, the food was ok but the service was terrible. The set menu of an appetizer to share and 2 pizzas per couple seemed like a good deal, but we ended with way too much food. Also they couldn’t bring out the food all at once, one couple had finished before another even got anything and when we all ordered at the same time from a set menu that’s pretty terrible. Ended up with a cheque that seemed very expensive for what we got– an appetizer, 2 pizzas and about 6 drinks was $ 180 on Astoria!!! No thanks!

I went to Republic for a comedy show that took place there last night! We found parking right away and although they have valet parking, my boyfriend is a bit scarred from previous valet experience. The drinks were good and they also serve pizza. The pizza was delicious and the prices were decent. After the comedy show, they turned up the music and everyone was still hanging out! It was a Wednesday and it definitely felt like a weekend! Definitely had a good time and lots of laughs!

Republic is amazing. I had a last minute 20+ people post proposal event and had to find a place immediately. Everyone from the staff members to valet to bouncer are extremely professional. The attention to detail is like phenomenal. The event was for my little brothers proposal celebration and I had to figure out where to host the gathering. Nick the owner was able to make this happen. Food presentation to taste is a 10!!! It’s delicious!!! I’m so impressed with Republic. Thank you all so much for a memorable experience.

Was here celebrating a friend’s birthday. They were nice enough to let us bring in a cake and sing happy birthday… It’s located in Astoria Queens, and for those not familiar with Astoria, parking can be a real challenge. I love that they have free valet(please remember to tip good service). There was no cover charge, and I got there around 11. Security was great; very respectful, they ID everyone, they controlled the people in front(smoking cigarettes), and allowed us to go in and out without a problem. The place is nice inside… A large bar in the center, with an elevated area in the back that had seating areas and another bar. We had an entire seating area to ourselves(we were a pretty large crowd). The waitress was great, very attentive. Bottle service was normal(they walked it over with the sparklers going, which is always cool), and brought any mixers we wanted. The DJ was playing good music all night, hip hop & R&B. The bathroom attendant was nice and had everything you would need… It loses a star because the place is not that big(not that I would say it’s small either), and it was pretty packed that night. I’m not sure where people would dance as I didn’t see a dance floor. If we didn’t have our own area it may have been to packed for me. I would go back and recommend it to others… Happy Unilocaling :)

Cool spot! Free valet, which is great for Astoria, parking isn’t easy over there! Bouncers ID’ing everyone, no cover… on a sat around 11ish. Large bar smack in the center of the place, dj is up in the wall, behind some glass so you see him. Large flat screens playing music videos. They have like a raised level for vip seating, tables, and a small bar, not so much room outside of that. This place was packed! Not so hot, finally a cool place temperature wise… am I the only one always hot… maybe…LOL My friend had a section with 2 tables, full size tables with a bench on one side and chairs on the other, section overlooks bar in the center of the place and faces the dj and flat screens. If your in this section or the vip section behind us… your good! Otherwise, people looked pretty smushed together… lol Music was good, mostly hip hop and reggae… heard a lot of old school hotness! I’m in my early 30’s, so not that old school… lol Drinks were good 10 – 12 bucks, not bad. Staff was very friendly, bouncers were cool dudes, shout out to the bathroom attendant, he was on point(they have individual bathrooms, sinks are outside for everyone) Someone in my group had the pizza and wasn’t that impressed, looked pretty good, guess I’ll have to try it next time. Definitely coming back, great low key Saturday night type of spot!

This place is a little strange. Couldn’t really figure out the crowd… trendy hipster… dressed up casual? Staff was nice enough. They played old school hip hop which just seemed odd for the environment but it was funny… almost ironic. Pizza was really good! We had the artichoke and brie pizza but honestly I could have eaten one all by myself. Definitely overpriced and didn’t even bother with the drinks. It’s basically a wannabe upscale pizza place I guess. Overall the environment isn’t warm and welcoming but more so cold and kind of judgey. Generally I just didn’t get what was going on. We ended up eating a 2nd dinner at a diner.

I invited friends here for my birthday and we all enjoyed it … I had to write a review just to say that the service, DJ, atmosphere, food and drinks were all great. Everyone loved it and even though some people came from NJ they referenced wanting to come back there another night. We tried a variety of the pizza selections and they were all tasty. The drinks were well made and by the end we all voted ‘Always Vacationing’ as our favorite. The DJ played a very nice mix of old and new school which he blended perfectly. In my secret life I want to be a DJ so I always listen carefully and he was very good. I have nothing bad to say about Republic. My other friends and I live in Astoria. have been there before and will return.

I came here for my friends bday and this place didn’t disappoint. Some people were late so we decided to grab some drinks at the bar while we waited and boy am I glad we did. I love bourbon and had the B.D. White –Resident Artist(black walnut bitters, averna, bourbon) this drink was delicious. It was served perfect with one big ice cube the way bourbon is suppose to be served. When everyone showed up we were taken to one of the booths. I got to try all four appetizers and my top favorite was the meatballs. We ordered 4 pizzas to share for our table of 6, marinara, the republic, nonno gino and cherry Jackson. All four pizzas were good but the tables favorite including myself was the cherry Jackson. We didn’t have any dessert but our dinner experience was excellent. Everyone was very happy and the service was good.

Nic & Stu do it again! Grand Café is still a hit and now they bring you their lounge/restaurant for a relaxing evening in Astoria. I recommend coming with a few friends, as it has lots of locals that mostly know each other. Valet parking all night makes life easy. So does a very friendly staff. Make sure to go for their Thursday old school rap/reggae/hip-hop night.

I came to Republic after a friend who kept eyeing its construction these past few months noticed that it was finally opened. Its location is pretty easy to get to from the Astoria Blvd stop on the N/Q, although it could be hard to miss if you’re not familiar with the area(head to Astoria Blvd NORTH and walk parallel with the highway). HIghlights: — The first drink on the cocktail menu(sweet kid, i think?) was delicious! Not a very strong drink, unfortunately. — I went with two friends and we each ordered pizzas. I had the last pizza on the menu(that had brussels sprouts) and it was fine but a little TOO burned on the crust. My friends had the Republic pizza and another one with cherries, prosciutto, and gorgonzola. Both of those were AWESOME! — Service was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere wasn’t really my style, but for those who like a lounge-y feel, this is the place for you! Music was a bit too loud, but what they played was good. Not sure what kind of scene this place has at night, but it seems as if it’s more Euro nightclub-y(than say, a place like Sweet Afton), which will certainly please those who might want a different scene than that on 30th Avenue. Overall, a fine place. Not sure what would draw me back, though. Also, I was a little turned off by the artwork of the woman in the headdress. Not sure if its appropriation or homage, but I sensed a disconnect between the image and the restaurant’s theme(although PLEASE enlighten me if I’m just missing the point entirely!).

A couple of week’s ago I stopped by for the grand opening of one of Astoria’s latest newcomers. Republic I thought to myself was oddly placed on the part of Astoria Blvd. that most people don’t even think about when they drive by. Nevertheless they propriotors created a new gem of a pizza/bar/lounge that is worth the visit. I visited a second time this week past and from the Italian inspired menu I ordered a couple of pizzas including one with arugala and with some other stuff on it. I also ordered the meatballs, which are phenomenal. My friends of the feminine persuasion ordered the house drinks that they absolutely loved(and kept ordering). I, on the other hand, ordered a bottle of modestly priced wine from Republic’s limited wine selection, the only part of my experience that I could find fault. Methinks having a bit of a broader selection with a couple of up-market choices is not the worst thing to have for a pizza bar. Our amply tattooed waitress was excellent and on-point. She was very helpful in navigating the menu and was there when we needed and invisible when we didn’t. I will be back and I will keep returning.
