Rita is amazing. She’s your mom. She’s the sweetest kindest and most hospitable lady you will find in Astoria. Her food is homemade and delicious. I once told her I was extremely tired and she made me coffee right on the spot even though her store doesn’t sell it. Her prices is the cheapest hot food you will find in Astoria and it’s not an exaggeration.

The rumors are true. Real home made Moroccan soup couscous, rice, chicken lamb, salad, 3 kinds of bread, lots of stuff. I hate soup! I hate hot things and this stuff is delicious! They have vegan and vegetarian options. Green is the business here. Yes all low prices $ 10 gets you a lot! They don’t take cards but they have an ATM to withdraw. There’s also a resident cat Rhita, the owner took in. Ask her about the story of Gracy the resident cat who has never left the store

I can’t even begin to tell you how amazing the food is here. I work across the street and from the recommendation of a friend, I came here for lunch. When I walked in, I was greeted warmly by this smiling face, who I found out later was the owner. It was like sitting in her kitchen, eating authentic Moroccan food. She told me everything was homemade by her and it was made from her heart. When I told her how much I enjoyed my falafel plate, she said she’s so happy when people love her food. The lentil soup, salad and falafel were delicious and fresh. I found my new lunch spot! Absolutely delicious

I’ve used Unilocal to read reviews but never left a review myself(or even signed up) but one place has forced me to change all that… S&J Fresh, homemade, authentic Moroccan food. And man, it’s DELICIOUS! I’ve lived in Astoria for a while, and walked by this place so many times, hardly ever noticing it. On one of those occasions I was walking by I took in the smell of freshly made couscous forcing me to wander in. Inside, the lovely lady told me she had only taken over the establishment recently, she was the owner, manager and cook! Her name is Rita, and yes, she is superwoman. There is fresh beef, fish, steamed vegetables, couscous, roti, mint tea and more. I cannot recommend this place highly enough, the food is incredibly affordable, do leave a dollar or two extra because Rita simply isn’t charging enough right now(I got beef, couscous, steamed vegetables, sauce, roti, pepsi for just over $ 6.) We’re very lucky that Rita has chosen to open her kitchen to us here in Astoria, Queens. The place has tables to sit that give you a nice sit in kitchen type of feel and you can easily take the food to go as well. Don’t take my word for it, try the food, I promise you that you’ll love it and you’ll come back.
