I work not too far from Salerno on 27th avenue. Everyday around 12 o’clock I begin to wonder: «what should I have for lunch?». It’s the highlight of my 40 hour work week. Today I ordered from Salerno for the the third time and I am extraordinary pleased. I typically get a chicken quesadilla and call it a day, because there is nothing easier to make than a Mexican grilled chicken and cheese sandwich, but today I opted for a burrito. Now let me tel you something. I am an avid Chipotle enthusiast who hardly ventures outside of her usual, which means I don’t order burritos from anywhere else(with the exception of Dos Torros) and I certainly don’t order burritos from pizza shops either. Because if you specialize in one thing I’m doubtful that you’re good at anything else. With anxiety and hesitation I logged onto seamless and ordered a steak burrito with extra sour cream. I was skeptical because the description said the burrito came with onions. What decent Mexican(American) burrito has onions? I waited patiently for my meal to arrive. I figured: I’m not all that hungry anyways so you guys can’t disappoint me too much. I am pleased to announce about ¾ into my burrito I decided to brag about you guys on Unilocal. This monster of a burrito was superb. Melty and flavorful thanks in part to those delicious onions and I don’t have a complaint about anything. Thank you!

Everybody seems to be jumping on the beat up Salerno Pizza bandwagon. Chill Unilocalers. Look at the good things they do. Can’t we just get along people lol. I feel love and peace. OK, back to the review in hand. Salerno Pizza is a solid delivery pizzeria. They are on Seamless and I am chowing down usually in 30 minutes or so. Then again I live 500 hundred feet from their front door. They are fast and their pizzas are always hot. My standard order is either a sausage pie large or a large pie half sausage and half meatball. Pie is always delivered hot with plenty of toppings and lots of cheese. I have found the dough a little bit doughy from time to time, but it is not a deal breaker. Ratio of sauce to cheese to topping to crust very good. Sauce is not sweet and they use decent ingredients. Very commercial brands, but overall tasty. While they seem to be a Mexican restaurant also. Their main business is pizza. I have had their tacos a couple of times and they were very tasty. Carnitas and pastor both good, but not at Roosevelt Ave deliciousness. Overall, Salerno Pizza is a very good option for pizza in Astoria. I get a kick out of the individual who orders a pie and lives 2 miles away. Guess what your pizza is going to be cold. I then to order delivery service from establishments that are less than a half mile away. I want my food hot. I am fortunate that Salerno Pizza is across the street from my apartment. I get fast service, hot food, fair pricing and tasty food. What else do I need; a Mega Lottery winner people. Peace out…

Salerno is a good option if you’re going to break the rule of thumb where one never orders from a non-fusion restaurant that has two such different cuisine types in their business name. Haven’t tried the Mexican, but they do pretty darned good when it comes to cheap, heaping portions of Americanized Italian, and solid America«bad for you» goodness. Got enough spaghetti with meat sauce for two meals. The meatballs were only $ 250 to add on. They were decent, not grand. But the sauce added flavor. The cheese fries were simply crispy freezer fries with American cheese. Perfect. $ 18 with a generous delivery tip(arrived within 30 minutes of ordering), and enough food for two meals. Hit that«I want cheap-assed comfort food now!» spot just right!

Great slice every time! Since I was a kid … through the ownership change. A cheese slice is the Go To … chicken and broccoli strong runner up! I haven’t had anything else besides their pizza.

I wrote this review mad long ago but then never posted it. Anyway I ordered Mexican food here with my boyfriend when I used to live in Astoria. And all I can say is I certainly hope their pizza is better than their Mexican food. I got an order of the chicken quesadilla and when I opened it I noticed all the cheese was on the outside of the tortilla! So obviously there chef is not too knowledgeable when it comes to Mexican cuisine. When I asked my boyfriend what he thought he said«this food sucks.» So pizza might be there forte but Mexican is not.

We have ordered twice from them and had a different experince with them both times. The veg. pizza the first was really good but the plain cheese the second time was too oily and not as good. Gonna try a third time and see how that goes.

The mysterious thing about Salerno’s is how awesome their pizza is why trying to share the bill with their Mexican fare. In the same breath people have told me that Salerno’s is the best for pizza, but stay away from anything else. So this being a pizza-centric review, it’s cheap, its fast and great. It’s that call in the middle of the party, that call after a long day at work and you can’t raise a finger to cook. It’s that type of pizza that covers what you want in a pizza, the crust is thin(not to thin) the sauce isn’t watery tomato mess and the toppings are in abundance. I have to steer you towards the mushroom, you can’t go wrong.

Used to get tortas($ 5.50) from this place and liked it. One day ordered Philly cheese steak not expecting much and it was terrible, there were mushrooms in it(I don’t eat mushrooms!!). I think they should at least write that it contains mushrooms. After that stopped getting food from there, however today ordered a burrito($ 6.50) and it was amazing. Can’t say I know much about what a legit burrito suppose to taste like but this one was great for me. For $ 6.50 it was huge and not sloppy, was able to hold it with one hand and eat… tasted great as well. I’m def getting it again.

An Italian restaurant that also serves Mexican food is a mysterious fig. What an odd business strategy. «Hey, what does your bookstore sell?» «Slide whistles and pirate hats. Oh, and books.» Whatever the thought process that gave birth to this burrito-faced, spaghetti-armed Frankenstein monster– I can’t say I love it. While the food wasn’t terrible, it wasn’t stellar. One wonders if it might be wiser to do one thing well instead of two in a mediocre fashion. At least, that’s what my wife keeps reminding me. If you want OK food with a side of whimsy and confusion, you could do worse. Just be glad they haven’t attempted some reckless form of fusion cuisine.

Pizza was pizza, nothing special but not bad. I was hungry and they had a decent delivery time. My cousin ordered a couple of tacos and said they were pretty good.

I can’t really comment on more than their meatballs and italian ice. That’s basically all I get from here. But their delivery is fast, and seriously, try the meatballs.

Mexican Fare in a Pizzeria. I am just old enough to remember that The Gap started out back in the last ’60’s selling Levis and LPs. Eventually they dropped the LPs and concentrated on doing one thing right. That is my hope for Salerno’s Pizzeria. Salerno’s pizza is tasty but it isn’t anything to write home about. It is tasty in that, «I live right by here» kind of way. The tacos — same thing. It has an appeal to the group that cannot decide on one thing, but past those two scenarios, I am drawing a blank as to why anyone would opt to come here. The huge menu signage behind the counter looks like it has seen better days and generally makes the place look tired. I am happy to see that they have an A on their front window since mid January ’12. Since they were in the solid B-C range from December ’10 — Jan ’12 it means that the NYCDOH grading system has kick started another business in to doing the right thing. Keep it up. It is a major step in the right direction. Salerno’s is on Grub Hub but not on my go to — Seamless. They deliver with an $ 8 minimum and when eating in, they have a big TV that they play throughout the day. You can catch up on your Spanish soaps if you stop by at the right time. The guys behind the counter are super personable. On more than one occasion they have brought my selections from around the counter to my table and offered to get beverages from the self serve fridge. When they are not busy serving guests you can find them prepping behind the counter and keeping their work area clean. They are definitely the ingredient that has prevented this place from becoming a one and done for me.

Have only had pizza here once for delivery. Had the vegetarian pizza which was pretty good, although it tasted a bit oily. The delivery service was quite slow and the price is a bit too high for a simple neighbourhood pizza place. I would consider going here again, but the C grade in the window is a bit worrying.

I live super duper close to this pizzeria. If I weren’t in such close proximity, I would probably never bother to step foot in here. However, when I’ve been starving, hungover, drunk, etc. this place does come in handy. I’ve never tried the hispanic food they put out, but the pizza is average as it gets. I usually have gone with the sicilians and regulars and while neither is mind blowing, they get the job done when I’m hungry or hungover. The chicken roll is slightly above average. I wouldn’t say go out of your way or drop what you’re doing and head to Salerno, but if you work at the hospital down the block or just walking down 30th Ave, this place will give you a solid piece of pizza or two.

I stopped in for a slice of pizza one day and i thought it was awesomeeeeeeeee, so i vowed that it would be the last one i try in Astoria, because all the other ones always have SOMETHING wrong or just bad food. I also ordered from there tonight and to my delight they made everrrrythig spectacular. awesome cheesy pie, garlic-e green knots and fabulous penne ala vodka. they were even good enough to give cups for soda and and parm cheese, bread and butter and everything. it reminded me of back home pizza places on long island where i find almost every pizzaria is awesome. i cannnotttt say enough, BEST pizza spot in astoria. and my search is finally over ^___^

My favorite pizza place in Astoria, hands down. Tucked away in a little pocket of 30th avenue, right across from Athens Square Park. It’s got a totally relaxed vibe. The guys are all really cool and will fix you up Mexican or Italian, even though I’m not sure they’re either. My recommendation is a Chicken and Broccoli Slice. Not only are all the slices and toppings generously apportioned, but it tastes pretty great, too. The Mexican, in case you’re wondering, isn’t terrible. I really like the black beans they make and the fajitas are good too. Not the biggest place, but if it’s just you and a buddy, try it out. You’ll like it.
