How much is that trombone in the window? We walked in looking for reeds for my son’s clarinet and ended up the proud owners of what my husband calls ‘The Charlie Brown Christmas Tree of Trumpets.’ Part of this was our desire to nurture any musical instincts that our boys have and the other part was good salesmanship. The two guys working in the store that day were a lot of fun. They let us take our time, made a few suggestions, but there was no pushing us into the instrument. It was most definitely used and had seen better days, but considering what you pay for new instruments, it was an absolute bargain. The store is in downtown Astoria and while it doesn’t have the largest selection, it was just fine. Now whenever I hear those low bellows coming from upstairs, I’ll think of Astoria.
