Uniontown is no more — this location is now the Lazy Spoon Café.

We were here during November. We too were the only people in the place. When we parked the car we weren’t sure if they were closed or not. But it was only 7PM. Sure enough we were the only two people standing in there. For a moment we thought there was nobody working there. But waitress came out with the vacuum cleaner. We were seated by the window most visible from the street. The food was umm barely warm. I guess they didn’t nuke it enough. We knew we were not going to be getting prime fresh food being that we were the only customers in there. I don’t remember what we had. I think we left half of it on the plate. What really wasn’t cool was the waitress continued to vacuum all through our dinner. And she was screaming over the noise to the«chef» in the back. It was like we were invisible there. I know we shouldn’t have done this but we left no tip. I felt bad but hey BF and I couldn’t even carry a conversation with her vacuum running and her yelling. Again…perhaps it wasn’t off season we might have enjoyed our food better.

My boyfriend and I were staying in the Holiday Inn Express next door to the Uniontown Café, and walked over there for dinner one night at the suggestion of the hotel staff. Because it was off-season, and the place probably does most of its business from the hotel, it was EMPTY. Save for a couple(and I do mean one or two) people at the bar, we were the only diners there. So, we got a prime table — by the window, overlooking the river. Very romantic. The food was delicious, especially the famous clam chowder, and the service was excellent — but again, we were the only people there. The next day, we were both craving some more of the clam chowder so we ordered it for take-out, along with some meals. When we got to the restaurant, there was an issue with my boyfriend’s order. Not only did they fix it, but they gave us both double orders of clam chowder for our trouble(having to wait a bit). All in all, I was really impressed and can’t wait to go back the next time I’m in Astoria.
