I don’t know what Michael D’s(reviewer below) problem is, but El Camino Liquor is awesome and the new owner, Mike, is a huge part of why. I am very, very into craft beer — almost embarrassingly so. I trade with people all over the country to get their locals or rare releases. I’m in multiple breweries’ reserve societies. I travel all over the state(and country sometimes) to track down beer I can’t get locally. Point is: I’m well aware of what is or isn’t fair pricing for beer. El Camino’s prices are more than fair. It’s as affordable as you’re going to find in SLO County for the selection they offer, which, since Mike bought /took over El Camino just a few months ago, has DRASTICALLY improved and only seems to be getting better every time I go in. I used to do a Friday beer run, going around SLO to Crossroads, Sidewalk, Sandy’s, Cork N Bottle, sometimes BevMo, and maybe Spencer’s in Atascadero. I don’t need to, and don’t, do that anymore because the combination of El Camino’s selection and occasionally picking up a bottle or two while grocery shopping at Spencer’s gets me everything I need/want. They carry Bruery, Drake’s, Goose Island, Hangar 24, New Belgium, Firestone, Bear Republic, Anderson Valley, Coronado, Stone, Dogfish Head, Heretic, Knee Deep, Sierra Nevada — and not just the everyday six-packs, but limited releases too. What more do you want from a liquor store in Atascadero?! The biggest point I have to make about El Camino though is that the new owner is a very cool and nice guy. I don’t know what«bullshit stories» or «smart ass comments» Michael D is talking about, but I go in maybe once a week and from the first time I went in, Mike has known my name and greeted me every time. I’ve asked him about special releases that were supposed to be hitting central CA and he’s not only found out information on those releases for me, but gone out of his way to make sure he gets those releases. He started carrying Bruery bottles a couple weeks ago, but not Bruery’s White Oak. I asked about it. A week later, he was carrying White Oak. I can count on one finger the number of retail stores I’ve been treated as nicely as I’ve been treated at El Camino. Bottom line: give this guy your business. I don’t think you’ll regret it.
