Best guacamole around! Friendly staff, quick service, and delicious food! A favorite is the chicken quesadilla along with their tacos! Definitely worth it if you are craving Mexican!!! Great daily specials too!

Best Mexican food around for sure! The margaritas are fantastic, the loco tacos are something everyone should try, and when need to finish off your meal, definitely get the fried ice cream

My husband and I came here on a Saturday. Our food was amazing our server was prompt and adorable. I was impressed with the chicken fajita I ordered. Maria’s gives a lot of veggies and very little chicken. Lopez gave me a hearty helping! We left stuffed! My only complaint is that the tables are really close to each other. You can hear what guests next to you are conversing about. Other than that, very good dining experience. Better than Maria’s!

This is a cool place. The service was awesome, free chips and salsa and a lively atmosphere. I recommend it.

Lopez is a great restaurant! I personally enjoy their chicken enchiladas; although they are a little dry. I’ve managed to come up with a solution to that by using there queso as the sauce; which is really quite good. I also enjoy the cheese burrito off the kids menu. It’s just a simple burrito with melted cheese inside and a little on the top too. There chips and queso are also really good. My family has gone there pretty much every weekend for the last few months especially. The service is always good there and we get seated immediately when we go there to eat and when we get takeout it only takes 10 to 15 minutes. It’s hard to find quality Mexican food in Atchison Kansas but you can find it here!

Lopez is a mixed bag. Some dishes, like the tamales, are really good. Others, like the enchiladas, are off. Honestly, I think it’s the recipes. It’s definitely not the Tex-Mex that most of us are used to. They’re just different than what you get at most other Mexican restaurants. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Service is pretty inattentive and slow and they get overwhelmed easily. Lunch can get long.

My sister said, «you won’t like it, you don’t like authentic mexican.» I don’t know if it was authentic but she was wrong, I loved it. We were traveling home to Kansas City from a flea market event and nearly missed this place. Had it not been for bright green cactus paintings on the outside wall, we would have missed it. Both of us loved the food. Chips were good as well as the sauce. It was Thursday around 4pm so it was empty in the joint. Great service and price was good too. Parking was across street in some lot and we didn’t get a ticket so we assumed it was parking for the restaurant.

So if you have been to Atchison, you know that there really aren’t many places to choose from when it comes to non fast food sit down meals. We went to watch my brother play some college ball, and came across this little gem. Apparently, this is a very popular place and small. You know it is a good place when the college football team frequents said establishment. Talk about authentic and yummy. Chips, salsa, and queso helped fill our tummies as we waited for our food and tried to warm up. Margaritas are to die for! Added bonus, they don’t skim on the tequila. That will put some hair on your chest! Smothered burritos are amazing, as are the enchiladas, fajitias, and well really anything and everything. Do you have that kid that is picky and only eats chicken fingers? Well guess what??? They have them and also hamburgers for your teen that doesn’t like to try new things. If you ever get the chance to go on a road trip and are in the area, I highly suggest Lopez de Mexico. I am so sorry that I don’t live closer!

With respect to a prior review, the Mexican-American cuisine of Kansas is genuine and authentic. Lopez de Mexico is a good example of the style. Mexican immigrants came to Kansas in the late 19th Century to build and maintain the railroads. They adapted their native foods to the ingredients and cooking methods available to them here. While ground beef is not common in authentic south-of-the-border Mexican cuisine, it IS quite common in Kansas Mexican cooking. They also had to replace traditional Mexican cheeses with the cheeses they found in the Midwest. Attend Topeka’s Mexican Fiesta sometime and you’ll see lots of Mexican-Americans loving their unique and delicious food. My sister lives on the West Coast, loves Mexican food, travels frequently in Southern California and Mexico, ate at Lopez recently for the first time, and loved it. Our family is grateful to have Lopez in Atchison. We eat there on average about twice a month, maybe more. We always enjoy it. My personal favorites are the pork chile and smothered burritos. My wife will usually order the enchiladas. I imagine that, over the years, we’ve sampled everything on the menu and never been disappointed. Service is always friendly and attentive. The margaritas are well mixed. You can actually taste some tequila in the drink, unlike a lot of «authentic» Mexican restaurants where the gringos sop up margaritas that taste like limeade. The beer is kept very cold, and soda glasses are never empty. The chips and salsa are never ending if you like. Again, Lopez de Mexico is a fine example of Kansas Mexican cuisine. Viva la Lopez!

I came here once with my coworkers for lunch and once is definitely one times too many in this case. I’m from So-Cal where there is no shortage of authentic Mexican food so I know what good ol’ Mexican food tastes like. The menu has a lot of stuff to choose from but nothing looked appealing to me since almost every beef dish consisted of ground beef. Ground beef is a red flag when it comes to the authenticity of Mexican food. I almost opted for a beef burrito but backed down when I realized it was filled with ground beef and smothered with cheese sauce. So when I came across carne asada tacos on the menu I saw a glimmer of hope since carne asada is my go to meat when lengua isn’t available. However, all hope was lost when I took a bite from one of the tacos. The meat was not carne asada. It was beef but it was sweet and the texture was just way off. It came with bell peppers, which is just completely wrong for an asada taco. Perhaps they were trying to make a weird fajita taco but the meat would still have been wrong. I mean this place is Mexican. Based on the restaurant’s history(you can find this on the menu) I would assume the owners are of Mexican descent so I can’t write this off as sheer ignorance. In all fairness though, Lopez De Mexico is more than likely just trying to cater to its audience. On that note, I have nothing else to say.
