Athena Grande Movie Theater

Do yourself a favor and wait 15 minutes after show time. This is do to the torture of all the commercials. This should be a crime.

Had a terrible experience tonight. Was there with a large group and had a handful of tickets to celebrate 2 birthdays. We were one ticket short (even though I’m certain I paid for enough) and I couldn’t get in, but the movie was sold out (with ~30 seats left including one saved for me). They wouldn’t sell me an extra ticket and the owner himself insisted on berating me in front of a line full of other friends about how he’d let me in anyway to join the rest of my party, but how I was irresponsible and he was losing money and that I was generally a low life dirtbag, but one that he refused to sell a ticket to — he’d rather be an ass to me and then let me in. Do yourself a favor… Movies 10 is 10 minutes away, shows the same movies, costs $ 1 less, and the nice couple who owns it really cares about their patrons — go there instead.

This is the best option for anybody in Wood/​Washington/​Athens county. Compared to the GC Mall in Parkersburg, you have 1) Drastically better seating, 2) Drastically lower ticket and concession prices, and 3) Considerably better picture and sound.

This is a great movie theater, tickets are only 5 $ for regular movies! They also have special movies like riff tracks, Dr. Who events and even operas! They also do special features like (the hobbit triple feature). The theaters have stadium view and are pretty good screen size! Concessions are reasonable price (compares to companies like AMC even cinemark) (it’s not movies 10 price but it’s very reasonable for a movie theater concession stand)! They have special deals on there concession so keep alook out on those deals to save money! They have a pretty fun arcade the claw machine have a low pay out, so your chance of winning is very low! Plus they up the amount from .50 to 1 $ I was disappointed with this! They have some classic arcade game like house of the dead, donkey kong and Mario bro and even real coin pushers! I enjoy there arcades selection! This is a very enjoyable movie theater that doesn’t hurt the bank! I give this 5 stars because of the special events and the price of movies!

Considering that I lived in Athens during a time when you had to drive to Nelsonville to get to a theater with more than a couple screens, I really appreciate this place. They have good prices, plenty of showtimes, and a good selection of movies. I always try to stop in here when I visit my hometown.

Great cinema! I will often drive 35 minutes to go here as opposed to the cinema where I live. The prices are great, and the concessions are affordable. I’ve never had an issue with customer service, but that is not really my top concern at the theater.

Considering that this place is in Athens, OH, it’s a nice little theater. Decent prices, has a somewhat wider selection that Movies 10 in Nelsonville.

A dated, but well care for movie theater with great prices. It carries all the major new releases (I’ve been the last 2 Christmases and was able to watch the newest release) and has popcorn with a variety of toppings :). I also noticed that the AG carries 3D movies!

I never appreciated how good this theater is until I left Athens and moved to Parkersburg about a year ago. Compared to our theater here in the mall, the Athena Grand charges several dollars less for admission, has much cleaner, roomier, and plusher seats, and has a much more informative website. Plus I didn’t have to bundle up in layers of clothing to go there in the summer! If I were basing my decision on where to live on movie theaters alone, I would go back to Athens in a heartbeat.

worst theater i have ever been to. rude nasty manager who refused to turn a/​c down in hot theater. it is always hot in their theaters! not only did he refuse to turn the a/​c down he was downright rude and had a huge chip on his shoulder. they are too cheap to keep the a/​c at a comfortable temperature. they are way over priced. their screens are small. as regular movie goers we go to the movies ten or parkersburg or columbus where we get good service and can watch a movie in comfort! movies ten is only 5 minutes further away and they are way cheaper and cooler!
