The Athens Airport was a pleasure flying into. We fly into mostly smaller, non-towered, so this experience was a bit different. When we landed, there was already someone outside to direct us on where to park and to fill up our fuel tanks. The FBO was nice and clean and the employees were very friendly and helpful. We used one of their courtsey cars to go downtown for lunch. It was not a nice car… almost like anti-advertising…but it got us there and back so we were appreciative!

Flying from Ben Epps is a true pleasure, if you get the chance. There are only a couple of flights a day, both to Charlotte, and it’s expensive. However, it’s worth checking the US Airways website for prices. If you’re faced with choosing between a $ 275 from Hartsfield or a $ 325 trip from Athens, go with Athens. Parking is free, and you don’t have to drive forever. Your layover in Charlotte is what you’d have to wait in Atlanta anyway. If you don’t like small planes, though, you’ll have to brave the Atlanta crowds. The flights into Athens are on 19-seat Beechcraft turboprops. No food, no bathroom.
