Love the pulled pork and the ribs! Fun little Athens spot with live music on the weekends.

While in town for my cousin’s wedding, my uncle treated the family to Butt Hut takeout. I wish I could go back and have an eat-in meal considering how delicious this BBQ was. We ordered a to go quart of barbecue with sweet, mild, and spicy sauce options as well as a quart of baked beans. Now having lived in NC for 4 years, I’ve endured the debates of «best BBQ». If you’re unfamiliar with the reference, just walk into a Carolina BBQ joint and act clueless– you’ll soon find out. This barbecue was hands down some of the best I’ve ever tasted. It was moist and tender allowing for the sauce to be pure flavor enhancement. The baked beans were unique in their own way supplemented with bits of meat in the cooking process. I can’t wait to swing back through Athens sometime and pick up another quart.

BBQ is pretty good, service is so-so, environment is not my favorite(personal bias against ‘country-ish’ style restaurants). Their food is a pretty good deal, which is nice.

The barbecue was delicious. The sauces were absolutely amazing. The pulled pork on the buttwich was so tender and perfect, but my onion rings were lack luster. Personal opinion; everything else was great.

Love the food here but tonight had the worst service I had to leave. We were seated immediately then ignored for 20 min. 3 waitresses worked around us. Finally after 20 min I had to flag rhem down to ask for a manager. Waited for another 10 to 15 min for the manager to come out while still being ignored. People came in after us and we’re seated with food before the manager finally came out to talk. I will never come sit down and eat here again, only take out

My wife and I dine there several times a year and enjoy their BBQ, stew, and chicken mull. The food is top notch most of the time. The only thing I think is lacking lately is the wait staff. It could be that they are under staffed or under trained. Refills are slow. And my wife waited at register for 5 minutes to get someone to take payment for our meal. We will revisit but if staff doesn’t improve, our loyalty may come to an end. Come on Butt Hutt, step it up, I really like your food.

Butt Hutt BBQ is my Holy Grail of Southern BBQ; it is a culmination of all that makes BBQ as awesome it is. I was first introduced to this location in my college days after a night of drinking at the Terrapin Brewery with the promise of the«best ribs I will ever have in my life.» I was skeptical at first, but that all changed after I took my first bite. It was the best ribs I ever had. A few days later, I came again just to verify it was as amazing as it had been before(this time with a sober mind). I again got the rib plate($ 10.95 comes with two sides) but switched up with the sides for baked beans and corn nuggets. Needlessly to say, it was still the best ribs I ever had. Perfectly tender and juicy ribs cooked to just the right temperature. Drizzle these ribs in one of the three signatures BBQ sauces, and you have just tasted the best ribs ever. Since that day, I have been frequenting this location for last two years, suggesting this joint to friends and family every chance I get. In addition to the perfectly cooked meat, the locale atmosphere and the tight community of diners and staff make Butt Hutt a truly one of a kind BBQ joint. Depending on time of the day and the different events, Butt Hutt can be filled with families, excited college students, bikers, couples, etc. As diverse as this group can be, all of them are united by the love of great BBQ and UGA football. Obliviously the staff here gets quite along with the diners as they share in this passion for BBQ and UGA football as well. Every time I have been here, the food has been wonderful. Ranging from $ 7-$ 15, it is an amazing deal considering the quantity and quality of food they serve. Ribs are a must, but try the Buttwich Basket($ 6.95) and Brisket Plate($ 11.95) for something new. When it comes to sides, you have to get the corn nuggets. They are so amazingly crisp, sweet, and literally melts in your mouth. I have been going here so much, that it became a tradition to go here after every major event in Athens with family and friends. As someone who has been here around 30 – 40 times in the past 3 years I have been visiting this place, I can tell you that this place is a must try. If you live near the area or are in Athens for a visit, stop by Butt Hutt BBQ.

Just tried Butt Hutt for the first time. It’s 4 stars if you’re there for the pulled pork and 5 stars if you’re there for the ribs, which were really very good. They were tender with a great fatty layer on their underside that added flavor and succulence. If they were overcooked, that layer wouldn’t have been there, so I call these cooked just right. I got the sweet bbq sauce with them and it was a great pairing. The pork was alright, but that might just be my personal preference. They call it chopped pork instead of pulled pork and that’s what it’s like: instead of that juicy pull-apart texture that you get with a lot of pulled pork, it’s on the dryer side and cut into small pieces. I got the vinegar bbq sauce with these and it was really good together. If this is the kind of pulled pork you’re after, then I’d recommend that sauce. The stew was also seriously good. It’s nearly identical to the stew at Heavy’s BBQ, which is east in Crawfordville(which is a good thing – they have my preferred stew, and now I know where to get it closer to home). The baked beans were very saucy, sweet and smoky. Great for dipping bread in. I’d get them again. They were probably the best baked beans I’ve had at an Athens bbq place and maybe the best ever. The mac and cheese was pretty good. It was kinda standard with absolutely nothing wrong with it. It just wasn’t super good. If you’re looking for that baked mac and cheese style, this isn’t it. More cheesy than cheese-saucey, if that’s what you’re into. I’m coming back for the ribs, and want to try the brisket,

Was there yesterday with my daughter, not sure why some reviews are knocking this place. First, it smells like a BBQ joint. Nice and you can see the smokehouse in the back working. Started out with the fried pickles and what-what sauce. Very tasty. I had the Butt plate with a vinegar Cole slaw and Potato salad. All good here. My daughter had the rib plate with corn nuggets and fried okra, again all good. So give this place a try, it is very good.

I was visiting Athens on a business trip and wanted to give this place a try. Unlike many of the reviews on this page I thought the meat was incredibly flavorful. I think a lot of people expect BBQ to be totally doused in sauce and that may be why people thought the meat lacked flavor. I had the buttwhich with potato salad and it was fabulous, I really liked that I was able to choose my sauce and how much I would like on my sandwich. I would definitely recommend to a friend.

I have eaten here a few times and always thought the food was excellent, but the service was slow. Tonight the food was terrible and so was the service. I am done with this establishment. The bar-b-que was dry and like they had to scrape the bottom to get any. I ordered the Butt plate and there was barely enough meat to fill a small section of a three compartment plate. The Waitress walked by an empty drink glass at least 4 times, she finally stopped and ask how is everything when I was almost done eating.

Ok, so I feel so blindsided! I’ve been coming to Butt-Hutt ever since it opened here which was about 2 – 4 yrs ago… and I’ve NEVERKNOWN that they had a BAR! OMGG!!! Where have I been? My boyfriend and I went here Sunday(3−29−15) and got our usual… pork sandwich and rib plate. I’ve always been a fan of their food, very tasty and my boyfriend likes it as well. Anywhoo, I was looking around and I saw what appeared to be drink menus(never noticed them before), so when our waitress(who’s name I must say, just b/c it’s a funny, country name), Julie-Beth came back we asked if they had a bar, and she said«yeah, a full sit-down bar», I was FLOORED!!! «Really…Unhh-Onnh», so I got up to look, and low and behold there’s a bar in the back!!! ROTFLMBO!!! As LONG as I’ve been coming here, I never knew there was a bar… I’m glad I didn’t bet my boyfriend b/c I sholl would’ve lost! The magarita was just ok… nothing to jump up and down about! Now that we know there’s a bar, we mos. def. will partake in some adult beverages from now on at Butt-Hutt!

we come here thursday nights for trivia. the food is wonderful, when it’s available. they’ve run out of ribs and brisket on several occasions, odd for a bbq joint right? the meat is moist and cooked perfectly. my favorite thing is the corn nuggets. the sauces are the typical sauce that u find at most other big chain bbq joints. that’s a big deal for me. really wish there was more sauce options menu is pretty limited. but whatever they make, it is tasty very affordable especially for the lunch time rush pecan pie leaves a lot to be desired. very dry and not at all memorable. but so is most of their dessert menu. but i suspect the desserts come out of a box

Basic BBQ. Had the ‘buttwich’ pulled pork sandwich, which was decent. The fried okra was pretty good. If you’re in the area, it’s worth trying for lunch — but I wouldn’t drive out of my way for it.

Pretty decent BBQ in Athens. Highlights for me include the buttwich, baked beans, corn nuggets and especially the fried pickles! The sides are pretty generic, and some places in town do them better, but for the price this place is great!

Curiously saw a review for this place a while back and while in the mood for BBQ decided to give it a go. Ah, the names of the plates and general flavor of the menu was fun. I ended up getting the Butt Dog which comes with some slaw and a side. The chosen side being curly fries. All and all not too bad. I really enjoyed the many sauces they had on the tables. At first was a little disappointed the fries were just very plain, but I guess it makes it better to cover them in one of their sauces. I’m still kind of on the fence though. The sauces were good, just the fries. eh. *shrugs* Even with the sauce. But this isn’t a fry joint. What about the BBQ? It’s really not bad, but it’s not recall worthy. Brunswick stew and beans weren’t bad though. As for the staff: They quickly started off with forgetting the slaw on the butt dog, but they were pretty quick and friendly about fixing it. :) I am still pretty interested in trying the other items on their menu so I’ll probably check it out again if I feel up for BBQ sometime soon.~

Huh… for BBQ this joint leaves ALOT to be desired… It’s not bad… just could be soo much better is all… NO flavor on the BBQ, how do you mange that??? AND chopped instead of pulled for PORK? Wow… this place needs some talking to… Where is the smoke ring and flavor? It sure isn’t here that’s for sure… If you want slow service and a «to wait indefinitely experience»…come here, If not… they have WAY too many other joints in the area. Just passable food. Good side’s though… And these 16 +/-yr. old wanna be hot chicks they hire to draw in a crowd? Seriously? They are horrible… The joint is filled with old perv’s that care more about trying to get laid than the food … Hire a decent staff… smoke some real Q and then let’s talk… Bro…oven Q with some passable sauce aint the ‘Real” deal…
