Let me start by saying that this review is for the Tropicalia brew for I have yet to try anything else from the brewery. Having said that I will make this short and sweet. Tropicalia by for the best beer that I have had hands down. I can’t begin to describe the goodness of this beer so I will just leave it at this. You have simply got to try it. I am lucky enough to have an Elite Growler down the street. Do yourself a favor and go get one. You won’t regret it.

Their beer is just as amazing as the atmosphere. This brewery is housed in an old tire shop, and, when the weather permits, they open the retractable doors to let the outdoors in. You also get a free glass with your visit to commemorate your experience!

I really like Creature Comforts and their beer. Great location with a pretty good rotation of beers on tap. Could be improved with a greater selection of beers to choose from and wider selection of pint glasses to choose from with the purchase of a tour. If you’re in downtown Athens Creature Comforts is a good place to check out.

Like others have mentioned — this is a great brewery, good space, and a unique addition to the pub scene in Athens. The brewery itself is a pretty impressive operation and the taprooms are pretty packed with a good mix of people. The only drawback– having only four or five beers on tap at a time(post-tap«mixed brews,» like the pils+coffee, don’t really count). If they had a bit more diversity that would be nice(e.g. A porter, a red ale, or a stout). Also– even when looking at what they’ve previously offered in the cooler months, it’d be nice to see them try a lager… All that being said, coming from the Northwest, I have to say that the Tropicalia IPA could easily compare to some of the best IPA’s we have out west(Ninkasi, Ballast Point, Gerogetown, Stoup, etc). That alone is worth coming back here again.

This place is wonderful, and their beer is wonderful. The tasting is a great bargain and their Curiosity Tuesday’s are fun because they always have a new, unique beer.

I’ve had Creature Comforts beer on draft(and now in cans!) in Atlanta for the past year, and loved everything I had tried from them. Tropicalia and Athena are their most popular beers, and I see why. SO refreshing and delicious. So when I was in Athens for a weekend trip, I knew I had to stop by the brewery. It’s located in a large, old building downtown(which does not look that impressive from the outside) but is stunning inside! It has a very large, open floorplan. The minimal seating, bars, and brewery are all out in the open. When I went in March 2015, you purchase a wristband with drink ticket tabs attached. You’re given a glass and with each sample, they tear off one of your tabs. It started out pretty empty, and we were easily able to walk directly to the bartender and get new pours. But as time passed, the place filled up fast. It became very crowded and the lines to get beer were VERY long. Luckily, we only had one or two drink tickets left, so we didn’t have to wait that long for the entire experience. Not surprisingly, the crowd is mainly college students. The free tour was great — I’ve been on a TON of beer tours and this is probably my favorite! They brought us in their barrel aging room and told us all about the beers that were surrounding us. For dog owners, this place was dog friendly! Outdoors and indoors. Great job, CC!

As a yellow jacket alumnus, I will likely be tarred and feathered for reviewing a brewery in enemy territory. With that said, it was nice knowing you and your mouth watering amazing beer at Creature Comforts. With the number of options available to me in Atlanta, it seems unnecessary to travel the annoyingly hilly and horrendously stop-and-go traffic on 316 just to get to a craft brewery. However, after drunkenly ordering their Tropicalia at a bar in Atlanta, my mind was immediately changed. Creature Comforts is a relatively new craft brewery in Athens, second only to the behemoth that is Terrapin. Creature Comforts is located right downtown in Athens, but it’s just far enough away from the slow poke families and frazzled students that you, an adult, can enjoy yourself. The brewery itself gives off an industrial feel, but the large wooden farm tables and the bar make it feel that much more comfortable. There’s also an outdoor space, but who the heck has time for that in the hot summer sun? Yeah, no one, but it’s there. The wristbands they give you are also great because instead of keeping track of physical tickets, they’re attached to your wristband, so you’ll never drunkenly lose them… again. There’s even a special ticket that can be used for discounts at local Athens restaurants. Awesome! Now, let’s talk about the beer. Oh, my. Oh. My. I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed every beer I tried. I would write a list of them, but I mean, I drank a lot, so the memories aren’t all there. As it is at most breweries in the state, one ticket gets you a small pour, and two will get you a nearly full pour. I would highly suggest only using one ticket until the very end when you can get a full pour of your favorite. I can’t recommend this place enough. It’s cute, it’s cool, and it rocks. And as always, drink responsibly, folks.

What an awesome space. Open layout. Adjacent from a farmers market where you can take your beer and wander around. Twelve bucks for six tastings and a souvenir glass — not bad.

We were fortunate enough to visit Athens during their Beer Week, and decided to celebrate accordingly by paying these guys a visit twice. We found really great beers, people who are passionate about their work and their community, and a laid-back(and dog-friendly) atmosphere. I think this is the best of the Athens breweries, and I’d be a regular if I lived there. Do take a tour and talk to the brewers if you go. It’s worth your while.

Excellent discovery! We made a visit to Athens to visit the Terrapin Brewery & happened across this place as we drove around town. We walked in thinking it was maybe a brew pub but it’s a full brewery. It was only $ 12 for a collective glass, drink bracelet(good for six 4oz pours) & a tour. The atmosphere & décor was just great. The brewery is located in an old converted tire shop. The whole space is very open with tons of natural light. There was also an outdoor drinking area in the parking lot. It’s very pet friendly & we saw tons of dogs with their owners. Being dog lovers we were only sad we didn’t have our puppy with us! There are only 4 beers on tap as it’s a new brewery but all were delicious. Our tour guide Brandon was great. It was a short tour, only 15 – 20 mins at most but he encouraged everyone to ask questions & answered all of them really well. If we lived in Athens this would definitely be a frequent stop for us! Best beer experience we’ve had in GA, hands down!

Hot dang! I wish Creature Comforts was located in Atlanta so I could keep it to myself. I heard Blake, one of Creature Comforts’ brewers, talk at an event recently. His talk was equal parts science and love(the two best things), so I knew I had to try their beer. The beer is delicious and creative. There’s something for everyone here: oaky, sour, hoppy, fruity, fresh. when I visited, they had to special brews on tap. My personal favorite was the Reclaimed Rye. Mmmm. The brewery itself is a hipster’s delight: reclaimed wood everywhere, gorgeous metal light fixtures, mason jar vases, and– get this– A LIVESTRINGBAND. It was cozy and cool and fun all at the same time. Verdict? Definitely worth the drive from ATL.

We were visiting Athens and found this place. The building is awesome. I really like how they can open their front garage doors to let the breeze in when it’s nice. Overall, the beer is awesome. I’m unsure who did their branding, but it’s nicely done. They also have a local artist to come in and do their chalkboards were are impressive. A must go to for some craft brew.

It’s 12.00 to get a pint glass and six samples, they have a wrist band to keep track of the samples. You can’t give one of your samples away as I tried. Really nice atmosphere but the beers fell short of the mark for me. I’m sure about 500 people yesterday would disagree with me on that topic. The beer I liked most was their IPA, only four beers to choose from the taps. If this place was opened an hour earlier we would have stayed longer. Great spot for large crowds!

I had Creature Comforts beers a couple of times back when David Stein was working at Brick Store and peddling home brew on the side. I liked what I tried then and I really like what I tried this past weekend during a brew tour. We happen to get to Athens early to get a bite to eat before the tour started, but noticed that there were already people inside. A private/not private event for Hub Bicycles was taking place in order to screen the Tour De France and for a couple of dollars extra you got in early, had fresh pretzels to snack on, and got a special glass that allowed you full pours until the main brewery tour at 3:30 ended. I’m so glad we arrived early. I tried all the beers and quickly found my two favorites; a special saison brewed up just for the event and the Athena, a tart berliner weisse. The Reclaimed Rye came in 3rd and was quite smooth, but I just wasn’t feeling it as much as the 2 others. I liked the seasonal saison they had as well, but the special grape brew took it home. I took a quick sip of the Tropicalia and hated it, but I hate hoppy beers so there was really no shocker there. The 3 pourers on staff were nice dudes, though one guy seemed a bit irritated with my questions on what the fresh blueberries were for. The space is lovely, but seemed a little empty. I would love to see some more oktoberfest tables added to the mix. The large space would be great for private events and parties. *I wish the old monster dude that was creature comforts mascot would be added to the beer glasses… that guy was super cute.

Solid brews, great space, perfect location. This is a great downtown spot. Their outdoor space is lacking, but that’s a minor issue. If you like beer, you need to visit this place.

This is a groovy new space with some good historic preservation efforts of the Snow Tire company. They kept(and touched up) the outdoor signage and the roll-up garage door, which they’ll open up to create a nice cross-breeze. They have different slate of year-round flavors that is pretty unique, including a Berliner Weisse. It’s good by itself, but really shines with the addition of a rotating cast of fruit syrups. The pilsner is solid and provides an honest-to-goodness alternative when your non-beer nerd friend asks for the one that most closely resembles their comfort blanket of their macrobrew of choice. Far too often, the answer is something like Sweetwater 420, which is still way too adventurous for the non-beer-nerd palate. I went to an awesome special event jointly held with Tampa-based Seventh Son, which had a collection of amazing beers. Creature Comforts has a great tasting room and room to grow. This will be a great place to watch in the years to come.

The brewery is located in the old Snow Tire location, and they have left a lot of the outdoor signage in place, which is pretty neat being Snow Tire was such an iconic location downtown. The inside is wide open with numerous picnic tables for seating and is perfect for a private event. There are 2 bar locations with the available beers on tap. In the back of the building is where the brewing equipment is located and is obviously off limits to the public except for during the tours which takes place 30 after opening and 30 minutes prior to closing. It cost $ 12 to get in the door which includes a tour(if interested), a pint glass, and 6 pours of the current beer selection.
