Dr. Guy does good quality work but I am not at all happy with the way he treated me as a patient. When I went to him I was 9 months pregnant and on Medicaid. He was recommended by Medicaid specifically as a great dentist who dealt with pregnant women frequently. Despite having a note from my doctor specifically stating not to do more than one or two x-rays, he had his assistants do multiple x-rays all over my mouth. When it was time to work on me, he tilted my chair back so far backwards that the baby began to restrict my breathing. I tried to express that I was uncomfortable and couldn’t breathe, and he said, ‘we have to get this done. You’re just fine.’ He completely brushed me off. I ended up having to lie like that for almost two hours without being given any break to sit up. By the time we were done the baby was kicking and going crazy and my blood pressure was through the roof. He scheduled the next appt for not even a week later, which was fine because we had a lot of work to do in a small amount of time, before I gave birth. But I had so much anxiety about how uncomfortable I’d been last time that I called to reschedule the appointment. The nurse told me, ‘Dr. Guy does not reschedule Medicaid patients’. I asked why not, and she informed me, ‘We don’t make any profit off of Medicaid patients, so Dr. Guy doesn’t feel that there is any point in catering to you. If you don’t come in for your appointment today we won’t work on you any more.’ I explained to her that I was heavily pregnant and that this ‘rule’ was not only discriminatory but completely unreasonable and she didn’t bother to explain any further, just told me sorry, that’s policy. Needless to say I didn’t bother to go in for my appointment with the Dentist who hates Medicaid. I couldn’t believe that he felt that way, or that his Nurse actually admitted it to me openly. Since seeing Dr. Guy I have heard other stories from friends of mine who have visited him with similar accounts. He does really good work, he could just use some brushing up on his people skills and maybe not be so quick to discriminate against those who are less fortunate. It will cost him in the end.
