A very condensed, bottle-sized JoAnn’s. This is probably one of the few fabric shops within Athens. If you know of other stores, feel free to let me know, I’m always searching around, and sometimes they aren’t listed on Unilocal. Came here on my quest to find the right materials for a project, and while I found several okay fabrics I wasn’t able to fine all of what I was needing or searching for. Granted it is small and I did find some of it, the bigger stores have a much better selection of fabric. Though, in honesty, I didn’t find my fabric at those stores either. Some notes: not overly messy, very dimly-lit, somewhat friendly staff, an okay selection of materials and thread. One of the better things about this store is probably that it isn’t an overwhelming place. I guess, from a beginner’s angle, the plethora of choices for a simple project might be frustrating. You have a handful of decent fabric really quickly in front of you, and if you’re not feeling too picky it could work well. Of course, if you’re the ambitious beginner with specific needs, it could be worth the look-in, but they don’t really have anything new that the bigger JoAnn’s don’t carry. In essence, if you’re needing your basics or if you’re working on a small project then this place is okay to browse.

So, I’m not a huge arts & crafts person… I am 22 and have only recently(read: like a month ago) learned how to sew on a button to my jacket(yes, I’m a fashion major, but I don’t make my own clothes. Deeeeeal with it.). You will not find me embroidering or putting together a quilt. Then, what in the world am I doing in this store? Well, I’ve had to make maybe a handful of visits to pick up some things for school and yes, while it’s true that it’s a fairly small Jo-Ann, it is organized, well-stocked, the people are nice, and it’s like 3 minutes from my apartment. They always have all the things I need and I never spend all that much, so it’s a win in my book. For example, this morning I had to go buy a pattern that I found online and discovered that not only was it super easy to find the pattern at Jo-Ann, but it was 9 cents cheaper than buying it online! Yay.
