lunch recently, ratings are relative, this is not a 5* boston restaurant but it is a damn good local bar/eatery, smallish bar looking place, very nice beer selection, good app of mac cheese balls, very good burger, more med rare than the rare i ordered but still very good, great bart sandwich, also a large bart sandwich, martinis were smallish but so was the price, service at the bar pleasant and attentive… don’t get through athol too often but this place is worth another stop!!!

Great little place in downtown Athol. Food is great, you have to try the Nick. Great local draft beer.

Very good food but a bar atmosphere so go early if you have kids. The food does not go with the ambiance but I can overlook that because the menu was very diverse and everything we ordered was delicious.

Cool little place. The bartender/waitress was outstanding. The food was great. I would make it a point to stop here again if I was in the area. A nice surprise.

This place has great food for an even better price! They have all sorts of wonderful local beers on tap at very reasonable prices. The only reason this place loses a star is because it is very small. Sometimes you have to wait to get a table or spot at the bar, and the food comes pretty slowly because they have a small kitchen. That said, I think it’s worth the wait! Definitely a great place to check out on a day or night when you’re looking to relax, not rush. I live in Sunderland and will drive to The Blind Pig for lunch or dinner on occasion. Certainly the best place to go in the Athol area! Try the turkey pesto melt, or the Bart.

This place does not serve your typical bar food. I was pleasantly surprised by the menu. So delicious with a lot of healthy options. Great beer and wine selection too. I always stop in when I’m back home.

Great place! When you first walk in, the atmosphere(very dark bar) doesn’t quite match the quality of the food. Great food, much better quality than typical pub food. It’s worth checking out.

My mom and I both live in the area and had never been here. We loved it! The food was delicious and the service was even better! Our waiter, who isn’t actually an owner, treated us like we were his best customers, patiently answering all of my questions with a room-brightening smile. Before we were done eating, my mom was asking when we could come back. The portions were generous, great value, so glad to finally find a decent restaurant in my funky little neighborhood.

Great food and a chill atmosphere. Stopped here on a Saturday afternoon with out-of-town friends and a baby and felt very welcome. Even though half of the space was a bar, the other patrons were mostly youngish families too. We grabbed the only open booth, and ordered after drooling over the diverse, but all delicious-sounding, menu options. We got the pig fries(interesting and surprisingly good, plenty to share) and soy ginger chicken wings(tasty but a little on the small side) and sandwiches. We were stuffed by the time our sandwiches arrived, so I can’t even say how those were. The sweet potato fries were crispy and generous. Would definitely go back.

My husband & I have been here 4 times in the past year, but that number would be higher if the wait wasn’t so long. The food & beers were amazing every time! The place is older, the accommodations are not luxurious, but the quality of the food makes up for the surroundings. We have found that the place is busy during the supper hours(understandable with the food & beer quality). We have tried to get there early to beat the crowds, & and have succeeded 4 times. This little gem in Athol is worth changing around your schedule for delicious, fresh food & equally delicious beer. The staff was knowledgeable about the food & beers. My only complaint(and it really can’t qualify as a complaint) is that if you find an amazing beer on one trip, it probably won’t be there on the next. They change beers constantly, but I do have to say that even if you fall hopelessly in love with one of their beers, they will not disappoint on the next visit, because they will have another to take it’s place that is just as yummy & delicious as the previous!

I will be working in town for a month and I have found where I will be eating most of my meals. Friendly staff and good craft beer selection.

Awesome dive bar. The food is GOOD! So many drink options — local beer — and the staff is just amazing.

Nice place, nice people, good food — the best in Athol, certainly. What others have written is true. Lunch = in and out in 45 minutes or so, including me not eating in a hurry. If it’s slipping, I haven’t noticed(I’ve eaten there probably 5 times this summer including today). It’s quiet during lunch. Never been for dinner and later.

Meh, unfortunately quality seems to be slipping. The last 2 chances will probably be just that… the last. I order take out and bring it back to the office for lunch on occasion. Treated myself last week to chicken tenders and fries. Pretty sure I broke a chunk of my took off biting one of the tenders that was over cooked and hard as a rock. Upon placing my order I requested sauce for the tenders and mayo to dip my fries in(yeah gross sounding but I like it). Silly me for not checking the bag before leaving, like I do at McD’s. Neither were in the bag although I was charged for both. Instead I received 3 catsup packets for a mountain of fries. Next time I’ll skip Blind Pig and go for Cumbie’s pizza. :-/

For a pub in small-town Athol, its a true find. The blind Pig serves an eclectic sandwich menu like the simple but delicious and veggie-laden chicken sausage pita and the turkey and red pepper panini is full– no enormous. A beautiful drafts list and a stocked bar aren’t the only good reasons to visit this gem.

Never judge a book by its cover — and never judge a pig by its hide. This dive-ish bar is, *actually*, a pretty great place to grab a tap and a trough. Here an Oink: over 60 varieties of tequila There an Oink: sweet… potato…tatter tots!!! And other veggie-friendly plate options(marked with a carrot). Everywhere an Oink Oink: pricing was more than fair(buffalo chicken wrap with HEAP of sweet potato tots, «Mezze» app plate, and two pints ~ $ 30). Speaking of troughs and stys … if you’re über gourmand then you might need to divert your eyes from the open-door kitchen closet; it doesn’t seem large enough *or, possibly, clean enough* to produce the plates which emerge from that space. It’s dark, the décor is outdated, and there was Jamaican music playing on St. Patrick’s weekend. *shrug* Sometimes, you just have to look beyond the buckeye and just enjoy a pint.

We took a ride West to get out and enjoy the blue sky and onset of Spring. We stopped at the Pig for a beer and quick bite. The atmosphere is very pleasant, mixing a few gentleman in suits with some regulars and a few other transients such as ourselves. We loved the bar and bar back, both of which are holdovers from the 30’s. The multitude of cigarette burns entombed beneath layers of polyurethane speak to a different time. The draft beer selection was excellent and the food was good. I had a spinach wrap with chicken, feta, and greek dressing and my gal had a chicken Cesar salad that she rated as just a bit better than OK. Overall we were pleased and it was a happy bit of Sunny day happenstance that led us to Athol and the BP.

My friends who live in the area say this is really the only place to eat around here. Fun atmosphere. Great beers on tap. Unique selections of local/regional spirits. Was disappointed in the club sandwich. Too dry to be enjoyable. The Mediterranean nachos were delicious — especially the feta sauce served on the side. Sweet potato fries are winners, too. Service, on the day we went, was really slow(and it wasn’t crowded).
