Academy Ballroom

Headed over to Academy Ballroom to learn some salsa, for a girl friends birthday party! So we had a private lesson set up, and it was so much fun! The location is set back a bit, but once inside, it’s just a typical dance studio, hardwood floors and mirrors on the wall.
However, the owners and teachers were really great, and took the time to ensure that you got the moves down before moving on. I think it’s definitely worth taking some lessons here of any kind, regardless of your dancing skills. If nothing else, you can have fun, even if you don’t walk away with the next audition on Dancing with the Stars! ;o)

My girlfriend signed us up for a month’s worth of group dance lessons. She’s had dance experience before, but I’m completely new to it; not only ballroom, but any kind of dance.
Our class size is reasonable: 6 couples or so. The rate is very reasonable, and their website advertises different specials for different types of classes.
Most importantly, our instructor Joe, who is also the owner, is absolutely wonderful. He’s an experienced dancer and teacher of dance, and as a teacher he is patient, observant, and not at all condescending. Although I’ve found myself frustrated with difficult moves, I don’t feel embarrassed. Even though we’re actually taking the level 2 syllabus, due to level 1 not having enough students, I feel the pace is about right. I’m sure the level 1 course would have been slower, which for me might have been better, but in the deep end I go.
My girlfriend and I have signed up for the next month’s of classes as a continuation of our lesson, and will also take (at least one) private class.

What do you do when you have two left feet, your fiancé has three left feet, and its days before your wedding? Get a private crash course from Len at Academy Ballroom, of course!
He taught the two of us a lovely first dance in one hour, and then fiancé handed me over to Dad and Len got us up to speed in the next hour for our father-​daughter. Len was the consummate professional and at our reception, everyone was shocked to elarn we only had one 1-​hour lesson!
The only bad part was all the really good dancers swinging around us on the huge dance floor. Just a friendly reminder of how much I can’t dance!

Academy Ballroom is simply awesome.
I was drawn in by a Dealfind coupon, which gave me 25 classes and two 30-​minute private lessons for $ 25. I started taking the Monday salsa/​swing class, and have also been to Wednesday Tango/​Rumba. Both classes are taught by the same guy (Sorin), who is really friendly and helpful.
I’ve had one private lesson with Juliana, who’s also cool. Kristen, the manager/​receptionist/​therapist is super nice as well. Basically everyone there is great. The dance community seems very open and unpretentious, with experienced dancers willing to give you tips and help if you need it.
Plus Eclipse de Luna is right next door to practice your salsa afterwards.
