Bear Maker Bakery

I’m sure a lot of you remember that aaaaahhhhhmazing bread pudding from the holiday Unilocal event. I of course immediately took to Bear Maker due to the whole bear part. I love bears. They are the best, and so are bakeries.
So Bear Maker Bakery has their bakery just north of Atlantic Station, and on a couple Sundays a month they have some new things to try out you can buy, along with cookies on demand! You can also order brownies, cupcakes, and specialty cookies for a later pickup. These things actually can be done during the week also if you give them a call, cookies can have a same day pickup even.
So this past particular Sunday included some nice Valentine items and of course, king cake. I had king cake once in high school and there was nothing memorable about it, so I’ve been hearing lately OHHH YOU NEED TO HAVE IT. Well here we are, because the baby means you get a dozen cookies.
We showed up probably around 12:30 and a king cake was soon going into the oven. This gave us time to try basically every cookie and talk with the owner, who is awesome. I wish I knew his name but I don’t think he even told us hahaha. Oops. I should have probably asked.
Anyway, they had whoopie pies, nutella sandwich cookies, a red wine cake with raspberry push up cake pop, bacon petit fours, and boozie balls in addition to everything else. The boozie balls are STRONG. I only tried an Irish cream one but there was also bourbon, port, and Manhattan kinds.
So as our king cake pieces are being cut… surprise!baby in the middle! And that meant cookies. I got to pick.
I have to say the peanut butter candy ones are my favorite and that’s what I went with. They use butterfingers as a substitute for some of the flour, so it’s like a peanut butter cookie made infinitely better.
You really can’t go wrong with any of the cookies, the only ones I didn’t try were the oatmeal ones but that was just because I was full of cookies. Definitely try the ginger one, I don’t care for ginger cookies but that one was good.
I also got a champagne marshmallow, which was SO AMAZINGLY GOOD. I have always wanted to make homemade marshmallows and seriously there is just no competition between a bagged marshmallow and the way that thing tasted.
Oh and the king cake, well, it was good but I don’t think I like the type of cake it is in the first place, and that’s why I’ve gone years without it. It was really fluffy and that part was tasty, I guess I don’t like the spices to go with it or something.
I don’t know when their next open Sunday is, but they post on Facebook beforehand with a little menu. They’re also at some farmers markets and Atlanta Underground Market, in case nothing else works for you. Definitely check out the other things they have to offer!

Layered cake goodness in old-​school push-​ups?
BMB doesn’t disappoint with the creative desserts and the owners are sweethearts. Do yourself a favor and find some goodies this holiday season or stop in at one of their Bakery Sundays for «cookies on demand». Your choice of half or a full dozen of the cookies of your choice.

I had a couple of their truffles at the ICE holiday craft fair and had to run back to compliment the guy running the booth. I had the Bourbon and Manhattan and I felt tipsy after one piece! My favorite was the burbon and they are generous with the makers mark. I’ll be ordering a box when its closer to christmas.

I can’t say enough about their cupcakes and cookies as other folks have pointed out, but the Hog Nut Crunch leaves me wishing it were calorie free so that I could eat it morning, noon and night! The nuts, the sugar, the BACON! This guys know what good bacon, I mean baking is all about!!!
Order from their website or find them out and about at farmers markets, coffee shops, AUM, etc. Can’t wait for them to have a store-​front bakery, they’re destined for it!

Visited these fine gentlemen at the Atlanta Underground Food Market even this weekend. Despite being quite full and light on cash, these guys did such a good job of describing their products I couldn’t help myself. All incredibly unique twists on classic recipes. For example: Indian Oatmeal Crème Pies (like the original, but with East Indian inspired spices in the cookie). I bought the cookie shaped like a pig. I don’t know the name of it, but it was a milk chocolate shortbread cookie sandwich with a vanilla BACON buttercream frosting (or something like that) in the middle. Delicious! I love creative uses of bacon!
Furthermore, these guys just seem like really genuinely nice people that are passionate about what they do. The kind of people you really want to give your business too, even if you are so full you can’t actually eat your cookie until days later.

The guys from Bear Maker Bakery were on hand during a recent Unilocal!Culture Club event at MODA (you ALL should have gone to that one!). I also saw several of their snaky goods at Outright Bookstore last night during a book signing of two local artists (and longtime friends) Robert Sherer and Billy Cash (who each are featured in a new book «100 Artists of the Male Figure») — at Outright, you can sample some of those chocolate covered peanut butter cookies they’ve become famous for…(along with other treats). I had a chance to speak with Brandon at length to find out what they’re all about — this is a bakery that specializes in smaller, finger-​sized desserts rather than giant fancy cakes. An oh do they deliver!
Bear Maker does not have a retail location — they are carried in many locations throughout Altanta or you can order from their Etsy store. To really view some of their fantastic creations take a look at the photos in their flickr account (
). Everything I sampled at the MODA event tasted fantastic — my favorite though was the «pecan pie» sections from several large pans they had at the show. Nothing like looking at vintage Italian Motorcycles and nibbling on pecan goodness, in my opinion, while sipping Remy Martin mixed into a delicious punchy cocktail…
In any case, do look to Bear Maker Bakery, especially if you’re into small baked goods (great for gifts I would think) — I’m starting to sound like a commercial so I’ll stop now…

Excellent cookies, cakes, pastries and food. I’m a chocoholic and these guys make me very satisfied.

Best purchased baked goods EVER. I call them crack. One little taste and you are addicted for life! :) My favorites are the vanilla bean cupcake, peanut butter blondie, and the chocolate covered peanut butter cookies.
The owner is also one of the nicest people you will ever meet!

. I just put it together (the sugar must be making me slow) that they’re from the same place — Bear Maker Bakery. Sooooo very good — just the right size, moist and delicious. Also available at Inman Perk, Outwright, drip and ParkGrounds as well as their Etsy store — go get one!
