Binta Hair Boutique & Salon

This place was very, very scary. I had decided to get my hair cut, and when I make those sorts of decisions I have to do it right then or else I chicken out. I had selected what I wanted my hair to look like, and since I have moved over an hour away from my regular stylist, I decided to hop on Groupon and look for a local place. The Groupon was for $ 35 cut. This is what my regular stylist charges me, so I wasn’t too terribly upset about it. Besides, moving ITP, I knew that I was going to pay more for services. So, I called that day and asked for an appointment. I was answered with a hurried «Just whenever…» and that really should have been a red flag to me. If it is a «just whenever» then that probably means they don’t care much about time. I get antsy when I wait very long.
So, later that afternoon, I showed up «just whenever» and the only person there was working on someone else. She said that it would be about ten minutes. An hour later, I was still sitting in the horribly lit, poorly decorated salon, feeling uncomfortable because it was getting late, and when I had pulled up, I was pretty sure I saw at least one drug deal going out right outside the salon. Bad part of town.
Also, I am used to upscale spa style salons where they take you back, give you wine, offer things like internet, have pleasant music playing (this one had really loud hip hop music, which I enjoy hip hop music, but not when I’m getting services done) and have friendly staff to interact with you while you wait.
So, after an hour of it getting darker and darker outside, the headache inducing loud music and the «ten minutes» I was supposed to wait, I left. When I was walking to my car, there was a really loud fight going on between what I assumed to be a couple. The lady was screaming at the man as a couple of small children stood by and watched, unattended. I headed home and immediately told Groupon about the horrible experience. They refunded my money, and I am now on the hunt for a much better salon experience. The next day I did go to a place and got my hair cut, but I won’t be returning their, either.

Wonderful appointment on saturday ! I wandered in to get a blow out and found Maribel. She is dominican and wonderful. The entire experience was quick painless and very professional. As long as she is there I will be back!
