Super disappointed. I had high hopes after hearing so many wonderful things about this place. My biscuit was okay. It was dry and crumbly, which is a common trait in some biscuits, just not what I was expecting from a place that specializes in one thing. That being said, my husbands order of a bacon egg and cheese biscuit was missing the bacon and had a hair in it. That was pretty awful and the staff was so busy that we didn’t even attempt to correct this. There were several people waiting to get the attention of the staff for several reasons in addition to a line out the door. I would give more stars, but health issues like a hair in food really ruins everything.

The biscuits are okay. I love a good biscuit sandwich so I really wanted to enjoy this spot. The first time I came was on Saturday and it was super crowded. It was too crowded. We waited about 40 minutes for a biscuit with no where to sit down after receiving it. The biscuit was undercooked and looked like it had been thrown together from across the room. I was incredibly disappointed and pissed off that I paid so much money for such crap. However, like I said, I wanted to enjoy this new spot so I came back during the week. The biscuit was significantly better when I came during the week when they were less crowded. But the biscuit still isn’t worth the price. To me this is supposed to be a gourmet version of «Biscuitville» which can be found throughout North Carolina. This version is just missing the gourmet part. It’s mostly a make-shift kitchen where employees try to make multiple types of biscuits in too small of a space. Next. The biscuit is too small. I understand that the name is cute, hot little biscuit. But you can’t stuff a quarter pound of fillings into a small biscuit and not expect it to fall apart in your hands. Moreover, you can’t overcook the busi it and then overfill it. You’re left with a crumbling mess. The biscuits for the sandwiches simply need to be larger. And then. The kitchen needs to work on consistency. Our first trip the biscuits were not cooked right. On my second trip the biscuits were not cooked right. And on my third trip they finally got it right. You can see the pans of biscuits when they take them out. Some are burned. Some are undercooked. This kitchen desperately needs a dose of consistency. This would help alleviate their ridiculously long wait times on the weekend as well. Finally, the prices. I understand that you’re located in the Highlands. But nearly $ 18 for two biscuits is insane. I would gladly pay that if you were delivering a consistently great sausage, egg and cheese biscuit … but you aren’t. You’re delivering a hot little mess half the time… Of everyone of our neighbors and friends that we have heard mention this restaurant they all mention the insane price. As one friend said: «it’s a neat little place I might would take out of town guests to… but who is going to pay that? No servers. No brunch cocktails. Just a super expensive biscuit? Is Murphy’s open?» Quick Summary: Fairly good but my god it is messy, inconsistent and overpriced!

I was of two minds when it came to trying Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit. On one hand, I love biscuits. On the other, trekking to VaHi. There’s a reason I never go to Virginia-Highland. The parking is godawful and there are children with horrible parents running a muck everywhere. For example, my friend and I started our outing with lunch at Yeah Burger, where we found and turned in a child-sized coat. 15 minutes later, a man comes up to us and asks if we’ve seen it. We tell him we turned it in to the staff. He turns on his heel and walks away without another word. You’re welcome, douchebag. Wait, this isn’t my Livejournal. Just pretend you didn’t read my ranting. Continuing on… so my friend and I decided that because we wouldn’t be able to sit and eat at Callie’s, we’d just eat at Yeah Burger and then get biscuits to go. The line was at least all the way indoors by that point. I love that they have an option for indecisive people. It’s three different biscuits for $ 5. Their regular biscuit orders are two of a kind for $ 4. So I tried the bacon and black pepper, the country ham, and the peaches. The last two were tied for my favorite. They were pretty small, maybe three or four bites’ worth. So the ham was super savory. Almost too salty but not quite. The peach one was not too sweet and some sugar crystals sprinkled on top, which added some texture. The black pepper bacon one was okay but not as flavorful as the other two and a bit drier. Service was great. Man is that place small. At least we didn’t wait long. I look forward to coming back for more of those delicious little biscuits. I do not look forward to getting knocked around by children with no kind of home training.

What a cute little place! I love the setup where you can see the biscuits being rolled out and shaped right in front of you. It is definitely a great way to get people in the store. Hey, it’s how they convinced me to actually go in and try some even though I was def still full from lunch. The biscuits aren’t too big, perfect snack sized. The top is nice and golden brown and the inside nice and flakey. They are so good when they’re fresh and hot.

Was hungover this morning and was craving biscuits, biscuits, and more biscuits. Searched«biscuits» on Unilocal and found this magical spot. You walk into this small but cute corner shop and the vibe immediately makes you feel good about all the terrible decisions you made the night before. As I walked to the counter to order they already had some biscuits out for sampling. Doesn’t seem like such a big deal, but these little bites were the beginning of me leaving a very dark place that my cocktails had taken me to the prior evening. I approach the counter and order the special of the morning which was a fried chicken biscuit with siracha and homemade pickles on a buttermilk biscuit. It was freaking delicious. Unreal. Amazeballs. Fluffy yet crusty. I wanted to keep buying more biscuits even though I wasn’t hungry anymore. It was like I believed in this little shop and whatever the hell their mission was and I was ready to start funding their cause. Any who… Go here. Eat here. Get some to go. And then come back when you are all done.

This small Virginia Highland spot is SUPERCUTE! Three-bite biscuits are good: I had the country ham(a bit heavy w/the sauce or was it flavored butter… but I appreciated the discreet amount of good country ham because I got the flavor w/o being over salted), the cinnamon which was my favorite, and the blackberry… too much pectin in the jam… but I appreciated that it wasn’t too sweet. Appreciate the iced tea with mint. They also have pimento cheese in tub and sandwich form. There was a special(larger?) biscuit w/either spicy or regular pimento cheese & additional toppings. Here’s an idea. Offer the small biscuits w/pimento cheese… please?

So, I should have worn my glasses because the menu is super tiny and hard to read. I ordered a biscuit that was recommended, the peach one. It was $ 4. I later saw that you can get 3 for $ 5. It wasn’t bad, but it was really tiny… like REALLY tiny. You get two tiny biscuits. I am sure some of the others might taste better, but the 2 tiny cut up pieces of peach were not very sweet. I will try it again, but maybe go basic this next round.

Yum! I love the concept of mini biscuits in so many delicious sounding flavors. For my coworker’s birthday, I came early(7:45am-ish) on a Friday to get two«baker’s dozen» variety boxes for our office celebration. Since their hours are different on Unilocal, their facebook page, and their website, and a friend had showed up on a prior Friday morning and found them closed, I called to confirm they were open before arriving. I’ll start with the good things first: I found the biscuits delicious. The Baker’s Dozen option is a box of 13 of their mini-biscuits of assorted flavors for $ 19 each. I loved that they were mini sized, so I didn’t feel so guilty about eating three. Yes, three. No shame when it comes to my biscuit love. The peach filled was a wonderful sweet biscuit stuffed with«real» peach slices and topped with a slight glaze. The black pepper bacon was the perfectly salty and indulgent delight. But my favorite of all was the cinnamon biscuit, which was more like a cinnamon roll but in biscuit form– layered with tons of decadent cinnamon sugar butter. Yum. The baker’s dozen box is definitely the way to go if you can get a couple of friends to go in with you so that you can sample as many of the delicious flavors as you can. So, if the biscuits are that good, why only the four star rating? Well, the service. There was one person in front of me, and all I ordered was two standard baker’s dozen boxes(well, and a coffee). Remember, these boxes are just an assortment of the biscuits that they have already baked and have on hand. Thanks to Unilocal,I know exactly when I checked in, and thus also know that it took them over 20 minutes(20 minutes!) to take 26 pre-baked, already made biscuits and place them in a box. Yikes! I get that three of the flavors had to be filled, but three flavors just had to be taken out of the warming oven and plopped in a box, so I don’t think that’s a good excuse. They also had at least two people in the kitchen area working, and because it’s an «open» kitchen, I would characterize what I saw as a lack of urgency from the staff. Given that it took this long to get an order filled when there were only two people in the store, no wonder they have those out-the-door-lines I’ve heard about on the weekends. I hope they get their service issues worked out, because the product is fantastic!

Yo! This place is the cat pajamas man! How could anyone rate this place below 5 stars is beyond me! That biscuit was moist and a little crunchy on top yummy. I got some grits too and they made my little southern heart sing songs of the bayou son! The front counter lady was super nice and helpful walking me through the process of ordering, she cool. The plates remind me of my grandma and that’s chill cause my grandma is a cool lady who can throw down in the kitchen. Go grab yourself some biscuits and don’t listen to these other fools talking junk on a great place, That ish is for the birds!

Not sure if this is a good or mediocre review and I do plan on coming back to try the buttermilk biscuits. Honestly, the biggest thing that stands out for me here is «WOW — that is the smallest(lettering/font wise –not food wise) Menu I’ve seen in a long time». Whomever did their signage may need glasses or has superman vision. Anyway, great location in the heart of VaHi and it’s a small store so 10+ people deep and the line will be out the door. You won’t be able to see the menu till you get half way through the store. The service is very nice and as fast/efficient as they can be, but do expect at least a 5 – 10 min wait for your food. I got there about 8:45AM on Sunday and luckily just avoided the mass crowd. It was about a 10 – 15 min wait on the buttermilk biscuit so I got the 3 for $ 5 box and tried the Ham, the Peppercorn Bacon, and Cinnamon ones. It was ok, didn’t blow me away, but average. I’m glad the place is doing well so will update my review again when back.

I’m giving it 4 stars since it’s worth a try, for everyone. They’re probably among the top biscuits I’ve ever had, and are definitely noteworthy. And I’m not even a biscuit person. I think they could probably lessen the options and just go with some pre-made options to make ordering and assembly easier for the staff and patrons, but I’m sure they’ll get more efficient. Or I hope they do, since I’ll likely not come back if the lines are as long as they were.

This place is 100% adorable. I love the décor & the cookbooks for sale. It smells great and is very inviting. Now, to the biscuits. They were«meh». My biscuits were hard and crumbly, and crusty on the top. I prefer a soft and fluffy biscuit, Flying Biscuit style. This could be a personal preference but I’m not sure why someone would want a hard biscuit. The cheese and chive biscuit had a nice flavor but the texture was too hard to get over. I so wanted to like this place, as I thought I feel in love as soon as I walked in the door. Two stars for the hard biscuit.

«You get a biscuit, Scully.» — The X-Files, Season 6, Episode 16 I’ve grown up in the South and I know a quality biscuit, people. I’ve been anticipating Callie’s HLB opening in the VaHi area for some time now and seriously, she did not disappoint. My biggest issue in this area is that parking is atrocious. There is some street parking, and a lot back behind their building, but it is not exactly convenient. So you just have to get lucky, really. However, you cannot miss them — they are right on the corner — front and center and making fresh hot little biscuits right in the window. The biscuits are small — bigger than bite-sized, 3 bites for someone like me. When you buy them, you buy in pairs. There are a few choices, plus there are always specials to choose from. Personally, on my first visit, I’m going to select from the standard menu. That was a good choice — I opted for a sweet and a savory. Being Southern(Kentucky roots), country ham was a must! So to counter the salty option, I chose the peach as my sweet biscuit. The country ham biscuits were amazing — a little bit of mustard, chopped country ham packed into that beautiful little biscuit — I’m so glad there were two of them… I could have eaten a dozen. Not too salty, but that tangy of mustard gave it the right kick. Delectable. As for the peach — they were actually messier to eat. A piece of a peach inside(it seemed like it was slightly poached, but still had quite a bit of bite to it) and then topped with a peach jam. So much texture, but the biscuit kind of crumbled around that hunk of fruit inside. I didn’t much care as I ate them both anyway — the perfect mate to the ham biscuits. The beauty of these biscuits, is how delicious they are, yet how different they are. The secret must be the cream cheese inside? I don’t believe I have had a Southern biscuit(to my knowledge, anyway) that had cream cheese in it, and these are definite winners in my book. Bring on the biscuits, Callie! I’ll eat them all.

As what you can basically define as a biscuit addict, I feel well-qualified to review Callies. Like many other reviewers, I came on a weekend and the line was out the door. The speed of the line was not super fast, but as it just opened, will probably be improving. I likened it to a donut shop in the process and style of location — not a ton of places to sit, more of a place where you get a box of goodies to take elsewhere to eat. The biscuits themselves were wonderful. Yes, as one reviewer noted, they are not piping hot as the name would suggest, but they are warm and fresh. I also hope Callies will get a little more consistent in a few ways, as one of our biscuits had roasted tomatoes(which was basically just 2 pieces of tomato), whereas the one I added an egg too had as much egg as biscuit(I personally liked that though). The peach biscuit was AMAZING, although we didn’t even know it was an option(not on the menu or specials board), and unfortunately they were out of the blackberry. The country ham tasted like it had a bit of cheese too, and the bacon black pepper ones were a bit too peppery for me(though were my boyfriends favorite). The cinnamon was tasty, but nothing completely out of this world. I’ll definitely be back to Callies!

Early on a Saturday afternoon, about 1.5 hours to closing and I saw photos of the biscuits served here. Thus, I decided to prepare for immediate departure and make a spontaneous visit to Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit. Besides the petrol station across the street, this is my first visit to one of the many places at the intersection of Virginia Ave. and N. Highland. I parked on a residential street about 500 metres from the restaurant. This is a small place with limited counter seating. There were some people ahead of me in line when I entered, but as I was waiting for my takeaway order, the line was almost out the door. Biscuits are served in pairs. I ordered a pair of country ham biscuits and blackberry biscuits. The biscuits are prepared from scratch in-house and do not come frozen off«the truck». The country ham biscuit contained shredded pieces of country ham and it also tasted like there was cheese on the biscuit. This was not the sliced pieces of country ham that I have eaten in the past, but the flavour of the biscuit was complemented by the flavour of the ham. The blackberry jam biscuit was good also. Some items may sell out for the day, as did the blackberry jam while I waited for my order. I ordered a cup of coffee [black] which is prepared using the French press method and served in a 16oz. size. Sundry items are available for sale e.g. t-shirts, coffee and According to the website, starting 29 January 2016, late night hours begin. Friday and Saturday, 10pm — 2am.

How do white people celebrate MLK Day? By queuing with some of the most insufferable humans this side of Buckhead for nigh a half-hour in anticipation of biscuits absorbing every drop of saliva from our mouths? Don’t get me started on the«Holiday» sales for which I’ve received so many e-mails lately… We really couldn’t give the man even a century before commercializing it? Reminds me… Time to take down my MLK lights. Before we get down to biscuits, let’s have a pop quiz in Line Etiquette, shall we? What do you do when you approach an establishment and the line is so long that it reaches the entrance? a) Cry on the sidewalk because others had the same idea as you for lunch? b) Open the door and force yourself into the place, causing the line to begin to overlap itself in a poorly orchestrated live-action game of Snake? c) Wait outside until the line has progressed enough for you to enter? Take your time. We’ll come back to it. Next question… What do you do when a restaurant has only a handful of seats, all of which are filled, and a line leading out the door, and a few of the seats suddenly open up? a) Send the children from your party to race from the end of the line to the empty seats and do everything short of pissing on the stools to ensure no one attempts to challenge them for their new territory of Discourtesia, claimed in the name of asshole parents everywhere? b) Pay the newly free seats as much attention as you give the two vicious Vineyard Vines imps brawling to the death at your feet or the pale creature spewing biscuit samples onto the shoulder of your faux-vintage sweater, because none of these things seem as interesting as the curves of your handlebar moustache or fantasies of a life without these flesh anchors? c) Acknowledge the open seats but wait for customers closest to the front of the line to claim them before moving in on them? The answer to both is, of course, «c». If you struggled with either of these, then please never, EVER, leave your home again. Society gains nothing from your presence, and you choose not to learn anything from your participation with the rest of us. Now, let’s talk about biscuits. Suggestive business names aside, there’s not much to be excited about at Callie’s. Advertised as a transplant from Charleston — one of America’s great food cities — this biscuit shop had me eagerly awaiting its opening since I first saw its signage appear at the corner formerly occupied by Winter Wren. Enticed by the daily specials, I found myself spending roughly $ 25 for 4 biscuits, a coffee and a tea, and between two of us, we were left no less hungry than before deciding to brave the long line. I opted for the Sausage, Egg & Fiery Pimento Cheese special for $ 8, and a $ 5 trio consisting of Cheese & Chive, Cinnamon, and Blackberry, and a side of their Thyme Butter(50 cents for approximately 2 tsp). Keeping the prices in mind, I want to draw attention to the business name again, to be sure you note the adjectives. First, none of my biscuits arrived hot. Warm… ish… maybe? A good biscuit has a firm shell of slightly salty, buttery deliciousness. Pulling this shell apart should reveal a steaming hot, fluffy cloud inside. None of my biscuits possessed these attributes. However, Callie has the«Little» part down to a science. The $ 8 Special was the largest of the group, at roughly 3.5″ across and 3″ tall(not counting the fillings). Given the choice of fried or scrambled egg, I chose the latter. The sausage was a bland patty of little more than pork fat. The«fiery» pimento cheese was milder than a Bob Newhart record and distinctively tart from the pickled peppers. The other biscuits seemed somewhat smaller. Best among them was the cinnamon. Its flavor came from a butter and cinnamon-sugar spread inside. The Blackberry biscuit had a layer of decent jam. I liked this one with the Thyme butter, for a nice pairing of sweet and savory against the fruit and thyme flavors. Last was the Cheese & Chive biscuit which, like an Eagles record, left absolutely no impression on me. Each biscuit was unforgivably dry and had no light, fluffy inside to speak of. If I hadn’t watched the entire production process starting from the hand-mixing at the front window, I’d have assumed these were the previous day’s biscuits. And with dozens of bags of White Lily on display, there’s little explanation for the lack of fluffiness(let alone the somewhat inflated prices). The owner, Carrie(that’s not a bad Chinese joke), mentioned that she’d been caught utterly off-guard by the crowds her business has attracted so far. The Charleston location has even less space, so she’d not expected this one to outgrow itself so quickly. Hopefully, my experience was an exception to the norm. Otherwise, Callie’s is a decidedly average little biscuit that gets a new-business bump from me. Overall, 6⁄10(rounded up from 5.5).

«Let’s skip out on the wiki facts and focus on the food. I’m trying to find out what to order on the Unilocal app before the server gets back.» [Time & Date of visit]: Weekend afternoon [Party Size]: 2 [Location/Ambiance]: Location — Nestled in the corner of Virginia Ave NE and North Highland Ave NE. Landmarks nearby include Murphys, Highland Tap, Fontaine’s, Paolo’s Gelato. Parking — Just like for other businesses, park in the surrounding neighborhoods cubside and take a short walk. Inside — Classic, white tiles with 70’s era music brings that nostalgia of more simple times. And I think it works for this shop. There are some counter areas to sit with high chairs, but most likely you’ll probably have to take to go. [Service]: Fast casual. Order at the counter, your named order is called out or brought to you if you are waiting outside the shop. The owner, Carrie, spotted me with my camera and approved of my request for some candid photo’s of her and her employees. The kitchen is pretty tight, my goal was try to not be intrusive and get in their way while they were handling making the biscuits. Sorry, I’m not here to take selfies all day. Carrie was busy churning out trays and trays of biscuits. They just opened and some employees are still in training, but the process of ordering is straightforward. Their«menu» is more like a small newspaper gazette in the front of the shop. [Food Highlights]: There’s a deal for three of a kind biscuits, for any of the biscuits in the classic or filled section. Unfortunately the peach was sold out, but the cashier did recommend the blackberry filled one as one of her favorites. If not, each order for the biscuits are by the pair. Fair warning, these aren’t the size of Flying Biscuits. These are more like 3 bite ones depending if you aren’t getting a special. Blackberry filled — The jelly /jam is right on point. Not too sweet to distract attention from the biscuit, but to compliment it. Cheese & chive biscuit — I liked the combination, and it’s not too salty with all the ingredients that this one is composed of. I think this would go well with grits or a sausage patty. Buttermilk — Fluffy texture. For anyone taking these to go by the half or dozen. I think these would go well with whatever jams or jellies you might have at home. Or just keep it simple with honey. Pimento Cheese — House made and with a slight kick. Me likey. {Summary}: This is the kind of place, quality over quantity. Some people might see that these are overpriced compared to how much you are paying. I think for something as «homemade» as these, it fits a niche kind of craving you’ll really only find at a special mom and pop restaurant I feel. Anxious to come visit midtown again and try some of their specials, especially my sisters sausage, egg and pimento cheese biscuit. 4 stars overall.

These are the best biscuits I’ve ever had. The cinnamon biscuit is a winner and the regular buttermilk biscuit is fluffy and buttery. Th downside is they have a lot of kinks to iron out. Service wasn’t too good, lines were long without much a sense of urgency from the staff, orders not being completed correctly, and items were run out of a few times. The biscuits are small– probably about ½ the size of a regular biscuit. When you look at the menu though, know that the biscuits come in pairs. So for $ 3 you’re getting two little biscuits of the same type. Two really is plenty for breakfast, but they also have a 3 for $ 5 deal if you’re wanting more. Overall, for price and service, I won’t make this a regular visit but it’s definitely worth trying and going every so often to get some delicious biscuits.

So excited that Callie’s opened in Atlanta! I’ve been several times and Charleston and I am so happy to be able to get Callie’s whenever I want now! Because it just opened, the line is a tad bit long, especially on a Saturday morning. However, if you have the time to wait I highly recommend waiting! Ordering tips: You order by the pair. If you want to get a better assortment, try the 3 for $ 5, then you get 3 different ones rather than 2 of the same ones for $ 4. When I went I planned on bringing them back home for the family so I got the bakers dozen for $ 19. The cinnamon are my absolute favorites, mainly because of the whipped cinnamon butter inside. If you’re looking for a savory biscuit, the country ham ones are my favorite! But I also recommend getting some regular ones as well and adding an egg when you get home. They don’t have any specials quite yet, but I can’t wait to go back and try them when they do!
