This review is for the driving range only. The range is nice. If you like practicing off grass, this is the place (or one of the places — I’m no expert on local ranges).
Because I suck at golf, I kinda prefer a mat, though. It’s a little embarrassing taking divots when divot-​taking isn’t called for.

I’m not a huge fan of golf but my hubby is. I came here with a group of friends for a 9 and dine. We played 9 holes and really had a great time.
According to my hubby, if you’re now learning the game this is the golf course for you. I did notice a few young cats wearing tims and throwing a few back. Wished we had thought of bringing a few libations, that would’ve made for a more interesting game.

Why 4… close, affordable, well maintained, better than average shape. Nice long driving range, friendly people and intown yet safe.

Good layout, decently maintained and an overall pleasure to play.
3 stars for going on a day when the Marshal wasn’t out. The guys ahead of me were driving all over the par 3s, but clearly they weren’t he only ones given all of the cart tire marks. They also had a habit of taking 2 clubs to the tee box, hitting an average of 3 mulligans per person, and generally holding things up. Given the geography of the front nine, it’d be extremely easy to keep an eye on the pace. Needs improvement.

This is my favorite intown course. This is a very solid executive par 3 course located in intown Atlanta. The front nine is very beautiful and has lots of water and challenges. the back nine is so of a «par 3 mini golf course.» Eight of the nine holes are super easy, under 140 yards, no water and is the perfect place to work on your short game.
The driving range is as good as you can find in Atlanta.
If you are looking for a long course, this may disappoint.
I can’t wait to get back to this place!

really nice and well kept executive course and part of the first tee program

I’ve been twice this past summer and won’t go back. The first time I had a great experience with friendly pro shop staff and maintenance crew. My friend and I had such a hard time finding the entrance and figuring out where to park. The second time, we ran into some lady running the pro shop who took her job way too seriously and tried to tell me which of their «lost and found» free clubs I could borrow when I would reach for the one that fit me. Excuse me? No, I will not choose to take a left handed club when I’m right handed. Anyone can figure that out, even if they aren’t a golfer. I’ve been golfing since I was a little one, so I automatically know what bare essentials I need. All I knew is that her domineering power trip was showing how much of a golfer she wasn’t, but wished to be. Since then, I’ve spent my time at other courses that welcome me as a young female golfer and are much closer and affordable to where I live.

Great place to work on your short game… have yet to see a putting range, but close to the house and very affordable… Also a great course to walk, plenty of par 3’s so makes you really think.

Oohhhh Charlie Yates, why do you support my love/​hate relationship with golf. Every time I say «I’ve had enough — my golfing days are over,» you lure me in with your well-​manicured fairways and the absurd amount of hole-​in-​one possibilities. Have I ever hit a hole-​in-​one. No. Will I ever? Probably not… but that won’t stop me from trying and there’s no better course to keeping plugging away that Charlie Yates.
The previous review from Adam M., who by the way is the Duke of the course, pretty much says it all. East Lake does a phenomenal job of managing the turf. The design is challenging but not overly demanding. The par 58 course tends to «level the playing field» for male and female players regardless of skill level or age. And most importantly, it’s minutes from downtown Atlanta!
If you love golf and always find yourself driving out to the ‘burbs on the weekends just to squeeze some playing time in, give Charlie Yates a try. You aren’t going to improve your driving game, unless you hit a few buckets on the range, but your short game (specifically 7-​gap) will be much better in short amount of time.
There are 2 things worth mentioning before I close this out: 1) As Adam said the back 9 can be repetitive. I think 8 out of the 9 holes are short par 3’s that aren’t exactly challenging. They are fun to play but no where near the degree of difficulty that you will experience on the front 9 (mostly due to water hazards and extreme elevation changes). And 2) Watch out for random people strolling across the course. It is downtown Atlanta after all, and no matter where you go in the city there are always weird people walking around with neither care nor purpose in this world.
Enjoy your round and ask about a free membership at the front desk — it’s worth the extra 60 seconds of waiting if you plan on visiting the course again.

Charlie Yates is THE training course for those of us who aren’t scratch golfers. It’s an executive course, which to me means a few defaults:
–Lots of par 3s
–Walkable
–Can be finished quickly (compared to a full par/​length course)
Some things that aren’t as obvious:
Yates is managed by East Lake. Yes, that prestigious top-​100 courses in the world course. The one that hosts the FedEx cup every year. Yates is a GREAT track because of it, and while it’s not quite the course that East Lake is, it’s still beautiful and well maintained. It should be, because it used to be a part of East Lake GC in it’s heyday.
Personally, i love Yates because it forces you to use your entire bag. You’ll tee off with irons you’ve never teed. You’ll only pull your driver 4 times (or less). You’ll chip uphill on a par 3 to a tri-​tiered green. You’ll scratch your head on some holes and say «why!?» And you’ll leave a better, more disciplined golfer because of it.
Some things to look out for (and honestly, personal requests in some cases):
The greens are pretty nice, but well traveled (this is a muni course after all). Divots can be an issue. Every time i play, i try to repair at least 3 divots per green. It takes a village, I suppose. Lend a hand.
Another thing of note — the back 9 is a little repetitive, but in incredible shape. I strongly prefer the front 9 for it’s variation if you’re looking to put in a quick twilight round. The back nine is lot’s of low irons and only one par 4.
Prices are great, and the rewards program equally great. And if you live in 30 317 or 30 316 you get the neighbor discount, which is only $ 35 to play 18 with a cart. Military and seniors (55+) get the same deal. I think you’ll agree that’s pretty outrageous.
Anyway, i love this course because it has a range, is close to my house, and is not super crowded. I also like that i can play it quickly (but without rushing my game). The First Tee program is based here, and as such has sole access to the putting green and chipping area. Otherwise, this course has few shortcomings, in my opinion.
In fact, my family and friends played here on my wedding day and they took great care of all 22 of us. I’d recommend the same to you, if you’re a party of 1, 2, 4 or 40.

Great open & natural space to hit balls. Kid friendly & mixed crowd. I haven’t tried the course yet.

Played it the other day. I wanted to give it 5 stars, because it seems to be well kept and in good shape after the winter (obviously fairways are beige and not green at the moment).
I’m deducting 1 star because some greens were a little rough and not as green as I like them. The course could also use a dog leg, but It has some nice up and down holes.

My fiancé and I had an AWFUL experience at the Charlie Yates golf course this morning. The greens are in average condition for a public course (though my fiancé would probably not be as generous in his review) but the staff was not very helpful and a golf game that should have taken 2 — 3 hours tops (this is an executive course) took 2.5 hours for nine holes (half the course) because of the course marshals were MIA when it came to making a group of clueless players speed their game along or allow singles to pass them. There was literally a line of players at each hole held up by a threesome that spent about 15 minutes at each hole searching for balls they hit into the woods. For a 12:20pm tee time on a weekday, this was a joke.

This is a pretty darn good course. Its always pretty well kept and has a lot of very different holes. Its an executive course so the longest hole might be around 350 or so. There is a lake in the middle of 4 holes, so if you are a bum you might want to come with a bunch of balls. I have only played 9 holes here a few times, so i cant comment on the back 9 but im sure they are decent holes too.

This is probably the most popular course on my list in Atlanta. The location is great (intown, next door to the East Lake course), the prices are reasonable, and the upkeep is generally above average.
Great place to work on your iron play and enjoy a quicker than normal round. My only gripe is not having too many chances to take out the driver and really drill the ball, but again this course isn’t designed for that.
They have a frequent player points program that’s helpful too. You can earn free rounds and other benefits, they keep up with everything.

This is one of my favorite golf courses in Atlanta. Easily the best bank for your buck as far as ITP courses go. It is pretty short with only a couple par 4’s, so it is probably considered an executive course. But in terms of grounds keeping and availability, it is very high in my book. This course and the famous East Lake Country Club next door, share greens keepers, so the course is usually in great condition. I live in the V. Highlands, so this course is really convenient to get to. For all you professionals working 9 – 5, this is the perfect in town course to squeeze a quick 18 in before sundown.

On the rare occasion where I try to convince myself to try golf again, I use the driving range here to reacquaint myself with just how horrible a golfer I am.
The first time I tried golf was with a friend who was sure that the fact that I had a hard shot playing hockey would make me a natural at driving the ball. It’s funny how wrong he was. Skill with a hockey stick doesn’t automatically translate into skill with a golf club. My golf swing makes my slapshot look like poetry in motion by comparison.
Range costs are $ 7 for a medium bucket and $ 10 for a large. It’s located right next to East Lake. The full course is a par 58, and weekends and holidays cost $ 38 for a round with cart. It’s good for a quick round or to hone your skills.
