There are many companies that offer carpet cleaning services at competitive prices. My condo only has 1 carpeted room, so when the tenant requested a carpet cleaning, I knew I would end up paying quite a bit. I chose to get a quote through COIT because I had seen the vans at my condo complex when I still lived there. I thought if it was good enough for my neighbors, it would be good enough for me. Unfortunately, that was not true. Let me say that the carpet cleaning quality was perfectly acceptable. The way I was treated, however, was not. The web site where I booked the quote said«minimum fee applies,» which I get — everyone does that. When the technician(Marcus) called me to give me a price quote, he said it would be $ 50 for the carpet cleaning, plus $ 25 for a deodorizer. I said that sounded fine and asked about the price for air duct cleaning. He said it would be an additional $ 150, which I know is 3x more than other competitors. I told him I just wanted the basic carpet cleaning, no deodorizer, and he got very angry! Marcus started raising his voice at me, saying I would have to pay at least $ 110 because he came all the way out to my condo and would have to drag his stuff upstairs. He also told me that COIT is able to charge more because they usually deal with large residential homes and that they really didn’t cater to smaller condos like mine with their prices. It was 6am in Cailfornia, and I didn’t want to argue, so I gave the guy my credit card number. Big mistake. Anyway, I later e-mailed Greg Miller(the owner) and was able to reach him by phone. He got very upset with me, as well, for wanting to pay the minimum. He told me they basically lost money on me because the price of gas was so high and because the air duct cleaning guy had to take a separate van and not perform the services. Isn’t that the price you pay for offering a free quote? The owner then proceeded to lecture me about his company, his services, and his competitive rates. I told him Stanley Steemer charged only a $ 99 minimum, and he said, «I don’t even know how to respond to that.» He also told me that he did not believe his technician got a little aggressive with me over the telephone. Technicians with attitude + defensive owner who called me a liar = lost my business for the future.
