«Sorry about that — needed to let off a little steam.» — Kingsman: The Secret Service(2014) In case you had not already figured it out by all my reviews — I love movies. Not only that, I love free movies. Add in a free screening at my favorite movie theatre — Phipps Plaza and you have the perfect Elite event. Practically tailor-made for me — pun intended, I just had to go to this event when Ben posted it. We were greeted by the even-lovely JJ as we lined up outside the theatre and awaited 7pm to arrive. With Party-Pass in hand(seriously, every event in every city should utilize these — always), I was scanned and handed a card for a free drink and popcorn. I immediately went into the theatre and found seats — dead center — and put my stuff down and then headed back to the marketplace for snacks. Seeing as it was dinnertime, I grabbed my small popcorn, bottle of water and also bought some chicken fingers(pretty delish btw) and waited for them to be prepared. After I had my goodies, I went back to the theatre and sat in my seat and put my feet up — ahhhh, reclining chairs! We all sat around and mingled while we waited for the movie to start — there was a fun photo op with props that a lot of people were partaking in. The party game was pretty fun — find new Unilocalers that meet specific categories — a great way to meet new people. Always a fun activity! Unfortunately, lots of people met me, but I did not get their names — uh oh! As for the movie — what a great flick! Colin Firth — always a charmer. The new kid was amazing with his bad boy makes good attitude and who doesn’t love Samuel L Jackson — I mean really??? This movie gets 5 stars as does the event AND the venue! As for Ben G… Bravo old chap. Oxfords not brogues for you.

This is the first time we have had a Unilocal Elite night at the movies and it was spectacular! I was already excited that not only was this happening at my favorite movie theater(Phipps AMC), but I was going to being seeing Kingsman before its official release! Woohoo! You could feel the anticipation in line waiting for the clock to strike 7pm. We strolled down to theater 4 and found perfect seats – well it seems at Phipps AMC, all the seats are perfect. They are plush leather wide reclining seats fully equipped with an electric motor. The cushioning is perfect for my back and my neck. Ahhhhh! God, it feels so good to sit here! We all did our #becomeakingsman pic at the beginning. I had a few laughs watching Mish and John dressing up like Kingsman at the beginning for some classic silly selfies. Everyone that came got to have free popcorn and sodas – AWESOME! Overall, I really loved the movie. Samuel L. Jackson is an intricately funny character with a lisp – I am not trying to joke anyone with a lisp, but the fact that it is Samuel L. with a lisp the whole movie makes it even more funny, especially the way he does it. Colin Firth was perfectly cast. It is packed with action and humor… some great lines – my favorite quote is by the Swedish princess at the end of the movie – I won’t ruin it for you but hilarious! I am already set for the sequel! Ben and JJ, this was a wonderful idea and I hope we get to do more events like this! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Ben and J.J. once again host a fabulous Unilocal Elite event — this time at the venerable AMC at Phipps. Included were passes for two with accompanying soft drinks and popcorn. A theater was reserved for an entire room full of Unilocalers with +1s. Ben led off with a game that combined a survey with intent to get to know others in the group. A prize was given to the first person to turn it in completely filled out and I believe it was both very effective and successful. First about the theater — it’s been a while since I’ve seen a film at Phipps — the remodel is amazing with really stunning décor and modern accents. I absolutely love the reclining, wide seats. The concessions are a bit confusing until you get used to the lay-of-the-land — basically there are stations along the edges where you can get your popcorn, your drink cup, other food, etc. They have those multi-drink machines filled with coke products and free refills. It’s nice to see a theater that caters so well to the regular moving-going crowd. The movie itself was surprisingly good — some warning though as the themes were more adult-oriented(some surprises there) along with a bit of ultra violence. I thought the plot, acting and character development all quite good. Thanks to everyone for putting together such a great event! I’m quite surprised at how well everything was thought out and my guest, Siddharth who had never attended a Unilocal!event was quite impressed! Kudos!
