I discovered the Fiah Truck(Food In A Hurry) at the Atlanta Food Truck Park this past Saturday. This food truck serves American/Jamaican cuisine, with most dishes ranging from $ 7 – 9 each. Foods include pan-fried tilapia, tilapia salad, pasta, wings(tossed in either their house sauce, BBQ jerk sauce, or teriyaki sauce), hot dogs, curry tofu wraps, and Jamaican meat/veggie patties. Jamaican sodas are sold as well. I tried Fiah’s signature hot dog($ 7), which was proudly displayed on their whiteboard out front. Fiah’s signature dog consists of an all-beef frank inside a bun topped with homemade mac and cheese, shredded cheddar, real bacon bits, sour cream, and finely minced parsley(or was it cilantro?). While it didn’t look as good as the dog featured on Fiah’s Facebook page( ), it was still a somewhat colorful and appetizing sight to behold( ). The dog was drenched in so much mac and cheese that it would’ve been more aptly named Fiah’s signature mac and cheese. It wasn’t bad. The beef sausage was flavorful and delicious. I just wish there was more of it because the meat was the best part. The frank was rather thin and narrow and it was completely engulfed by the flat, open-faced white bun, which was completely engulfed by the piled-on mac and cheese. It certainly wasn’t fit for eating with one’s hands(unless you enjoy eating mac and cheese with your hands). This one required a fork and knife. There were two types of cheese: the melted cheese sauce that came with the macaroni and the shredded cheddar thrown on top later. The macaroni was elbow macaroni. The cheese sauce was light and runny, comparable to, dare I say Easy Mac, but better. The macaroni pieces were soft and slippery. The bacon bits were tiny, but real, and the sour cream was melted and mixed into the cheesy goodness. Overall, Fiah’s signature dog is a simple yet mostly satisfying creation and an appropriate menu idea for the creative and«gimmicky» food truck scene. It was a hot summer day and the truck was all out of bottled water($ 1), so I had to get it from a different truck. Service was good. The food was served in 5 – 10 minutes. The Fiah Truck is decorated on the outside with a giant photo of Atlanta’s skyline at night and outfitted with a flatscreen display and external speaker system.
